@arkandel I mean he's also a boozed out sexual harasser so maybe he rightly wants to lay low for awhile and wallow in that knowledge about himself. Ben Affleck, that is.
-
@kanye-qwest I have absolutely no problem with Ben Affleck going away. He can take his brother with him.
-
@arkandel Funny, I can see Jake Gylenhaal in an American Psycho reboot, but I don't know that he makes for an appealing Bruce Wayne.
-
@deadculture I agree. He has too much...face, if that makes any sense. I dunno. I am not using words well yet today.
I think would be nice to just get someone new-new. I don't that they would give a huge movie/part like that to someone unknown but it almost feels like we just always cycle through the same line-up of choices.
-
@sockmonkey I think Batman, right now, is a bit played out. At the very least they could continue the The Dark Knight franchise, but they might have to get creative as to why Damian Wayne is Catwoman's son rather than Talia's, among other things.
-
@deadculture Personally, I'm kinda burned out on superhero movies overall. If it doesn't have amazing reviews, I skip it and I feel personally betrayed when something is well-received and I end up disliking it anyway (I am looking at you, Deadpool and Spider-Man Homecoming)
I am praying that Disney doesn't do the same thing to Star Wars. I love Star Wars. It still fills me with wonder and glee. I hope this more-is-more business model of a movie every year doesn't eventually get me to Star Wars fatigue like I'm at with superheroes.

My only real question is whether he can pull off the age gap. In the movie DCU Bruce is older (not that they dared go the DKR route and make him actually old).
Plus I'm willing to ship me some Bats+WW.

This is why Viggo Mortensen is the only logical choice for the next Bat.

@ganymede Holy shit. 100% for this.
Also, if you haven't watched Alatriste, fucking do it now.

I do hope though there's room for something falling in the range between light-hearted and edgelord-dark. I really liked Thor but I'd like a more serious take for the next JLA movie (assuming there is one, of course).
When Wonder Woman is considered the most light-hearted of the series, there's a serious edgelord-dark weight on the entire franchise.
Pretty much. The worst thing is that Snyder's concept of 'serious' is in line with what the New 52 concept of 'serious' was- which basically can be summed up as a thirteen year old writing stories full of violence, hopelessness and brooding and saying "Oh wow I am so mature!" - the soundtrack to Snyder's approach could easily be Batman's'Darkness, No Parents' song from the Lego Movie.

@arkandel
Wonder Woman's sequel is pretty assured; they even got rid of Brett Ratner because of the sexual harassment stuff going on. -

I read somewhere she never actually said it, but the rumor broke out and she never denied it either. In a way it painted her into a corner since she can't refute it either - since (again, based on Internet People's takes on it, which lawyers among us can correct me on) she could be sued for by Ratner.
-
@arkandel What she HAS actually said is that it never came down to the point she had to issue that ultimatum, because everyone who worked on Wonder Woman knew how she felt, and felt the same way. And WB had already cut ties (except a financing contract) with Ratner's company when the allegations came out.

Going to toss this out here, Valerian: City of a Thousand Worlds is a grossly underrated and yet enjoyable sci-fi flick. I like what they accomplished with it.

So I finally watched this recently and while it was fun...? it was way too rushed. I wasn't given enough time to get invested into the story or the characters...
I wish it'd been 2-3 movies or a miniseries on TV instead.
-
Everything about Valerian was beautiful...except the chemistry between the two main characters.

...Yes. This makes perfect sense to me, because my immediate response was "Noooooooooo! Batman is not a sad puppy who is sad because he is not being hugged. :("
Which is just how Gyllenhaal's face looks to me. I mean, he's just fine as an actor, but the perpetually sad facial expression ain't Batman.

Pretty much this. We've skipped a fair few of the more recent superhero movies over the last... two years(?) or so because I just don't give a shit anymore. Unless I was looking forward to it for some particular reason (Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok) or unless it receives such amazing reviews I'm willing to give it a go (Civil War, Deadpool), I'm just not interested anymore. Sorry.
I will probably go see Black Panther even though I'm not particularly familiar with the character or his comic book line for two reasons: I found the interviews where Chadwick Boseman is discussing his take on T'Challa's accent and the importance of it being not-British because Wakanda was never conquered by imperialist forces and that level of attention to detail fascinates me and because I want to fling my money at it to prove to Hollywood that yes, white people will go see blockbuster movies starring black actors who aren't Will Smith. Please cast them and pay them all the dollars, too, so I don't have to sit through another 'genius' and 'groundbreaking' movie/TV show written by some middle-aged white dude that's all a metaphor for him having spent his formative years desperately wanting the love of his distant father.

This.
Valerian in the comics is someone who, in his better moments, is supposedly one of the original inspirations for Han Solo, or so I've heard. (These comics have been around a long time.) And if that tale is apocryphal, it's still believable.
In the movie he was cardboard.
I enjoyed the movie but I found him very disappointing in the role.

If there's a lack of chemistry or directing, I'm not blaming Dane DeHaan on that. I would imagine that having to work with Cara Delavingne would make anyone flat and flaccid.
