Also works very well for zombies. If you have to train to kill you might as well do it right the first time, just in case.

I just went to see Crimson Peak, because I'll pretty much see anything with Tom Hiddleston in it. Plus, Guillermo del Toro? Hell yes.
I feel like it was a movie written for not-bright people, though..? del Toro's stuff is always visually very interesting, so I'm a sucker for his movies but man... I just want to like his movies so much. Good actors/actresses wasted on a pretty movie.

I enjoyed CP, but luckily I'd known a few people who'd seen it first, so I was prepared for the fact that it's a frock drama more than horror. It was beautiful. But definitely not on the level of Pan's Labyrinth for story, or even Pacific Rim. I do kind of think that Crimson Peak is a little like Pacific Rim except for frock romancey drama Rebecca-light folks rather than kaiju movie people.

I knew I shouldn't have gone in with such high hopes, damnit, lol.
The friend I went with, and myself, basically were telling the story scenes before it happened. It was just a frustrating movie. I'm usually good at that whole... "i could write this shit" thing, but...buh... I just wanted to like it so bad. Disappointed =P
That said, I'll likely re-watch it a few times, because yes, it was very pretty.

Cooties is an Elijah Wood zombie-esque movie that came out late last year that's worth taking a look. I finally got around to watching it and was entertained as far as zombie flicks go.
Z for Zachariah just came out. It is one I've been waiting for and was a fairly decent representation of the book. It wasn't exact - some story elements were changed but the ones that mattered were there. Worth watching if you read the book and enjoyed it.
I'm also going to toss the Ryan Reynold's movie The Voices up recommendation. I know it's a hit or miss kind of movie, one of those love it or hate it kind of movies. I believe that's because it deals with the other side of schizophrenia, (not Beautiful Mind) which can be a tough subject to tackle without coming off as mocking. I found the movie entertaining and worth watching.

The Voices is pretty great. It's severely disturbing, though.

Crimson Peak is a wink-and-nod to the gothic horror genre, which very few people have actually read and fewer appreciate. It is actually a very, very, very good movie from that perspective.
Crimson Peak is an homage to novels from the 19th century that helped to craft modern horror, like Melmoth the Wanderer, She, or In a Glass Darkly. The novels seem slow-paced because the author is taking care to use the atmosphere to foreshadow the plot. The same thing happens in Crimson Peak, where nothing at all that happens during the denouement ought to be a surprise.

One of the better reviews I read about it called it "a ghost story, not a horror movie," which I feel like is an important distinction. I went in expecting that. I feel like a lot of viewers didn't. Then again, I also love frock dramas like Rebecca and the literary tradition that comes from.

I get that, but I'm clearly in that "fewer appreciate" category. I thought the wink-and-nod was kind of neat, but not for me. It's always bugged me when books/movies have so much obvious foreshadowing that there's not a single surprise anywhere in the rest of the story. I'm personally not a fan of being told the story twice in one sitting.
I did like that we were witnessing the novel the main character had written, though. I didn't go in expecting a horror movie, but was at least hoping for some more sneaky foreshadowing. At the end of the day, just not the movie for me, even though I'll likely watch it a few more times after it comes out, because I like to pick out all the puzzle pieces, even if I'm pretty sure I caught them all the first time.

Without spoiling, I cannot explain further, but that reviewer clearly missed the point to the movie as well.
It's not a ghost story. It's a romantic movie, which no one intended or wanted. And it goes horribly, horror-bly wrong.
I'm not going to suggest the film is for everyone, or that everyone should love it. I'm merely pointing out that most critics did not fully appreciate the layers of story that were clearly intended.

What's really fun is recognizing in-game places. Like, it's Stormwind. How many movies do we ever get to watch where we know our way around in their make-belief streets?

This has to be one of the more generic displays of moderately good special effects budget I've seen since Lost In Space. The best I can say about it is that it doesn't look offensive, unlike Prince of Persia or (shudder) the D&D movie. I thought the Hitman movie was good enough; worth a dollar movie price. WoW The Movie looks, from this trailer, to be heading the same direction.
For a video-game tie-in movie, this is really good, indeed.

The Peanuts movie. It resonates on so many levels, and somehow manages to remain relevant despite being very dated.

I think I like this Lex based solely on the fact that it is pissing off so many Superman nerds that it's funny. Like, I could find reasons to dislike Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, but I'm having more fun finding reasons why his interpretation is perfectly fine, heh.
Wonder Woman dropping in like "what's up? I just saved your asses. NBD." is awesome.
