Fate's Harvest, generally, is one of the best-coded places I've ever been at
Even just the +ref stuff that's set up is amaaaaazing. I don't have to flip through books to find rolls? Yes please! Embrace my laziness!
-
@stabby S'long as it doesn't run into copyright infringement territory.

It's also great for those of us that don't have all the changeling books. Without it, if confronted with a power in a scene, I'd be scrambling to google search for a pdf or compendium, or stuck just having to trust that the power was being used correctly.

Darc began coding for us before he made his own game. One day, Darc was gone and suddenly had San Francisco up which had references about The Reach’s news files. When I asked him how he got all of this stuff, he said that he was building a CG for Miami and was just testing it there. At that time I had not seen the other references to The Reach and have since been approached about Darc taking our flatfile with the shell access he had.
He won’t be on Miami staffing.
Hooooboy, I am torn between "I fucking KNEW IT" and anger. I brought up the fact that the code base looked familiar, and that he HAD some of my code and Chime's code for sure. (That +where is really fucking easy to pick up). And people were "no, no, darc's coded all of this himself!".
"No, this is Reach code. This is my code. This is Chime's code."
"No, Darc's coded all this himself, he said so!"
No fucking wonder he was so fucking insistent on not accepting any code help from me. I would have known without a shred of doubt that shit was our old code.
Let me be clear:
I don't care who uses my code. I have old code that I'll flat out give you. Pretty sure @Thenomain doesn't care who uses his code either.
But fucking stealing an entire flat file is a serious fucking scumbag move.

There's a huge difference between "I am using someone's code; I didn't ask because they have publicly said it's up for grabs but I am being clear this is someone else's code" and "I am using someone else's code and passing it off as mine".
Scumbag is light.
-
@coin Yeah, that's exactly what's pissing me off right now. I'm pretty sure all the coders who contributed to TR would be absolutely fine with sharing their code. But taking the flatfile (which would have people's IP addresses and shit) and then ALSO passing off the code as your own when it's not.

As tempting as it is to lay into Darc for being a real grade-a shitheel (seriously...), let's go back to code instead.
The debate about @desc's has raged on elsewhere, and I personally hate (hate hate) PBs and the weird assumptions players make about other players/PCs based on them (or odd, unasked for comments), and while I don't think any code will fix people from being an asshole...
Can Miami ask for the updated +glance that FH had, too? It listed important info, including Wyrd (if you can sense it), and it's much more helpful than the wall-o-desc during a busy scene.
-
@a-meowley I will look into it. And everything will be heavily credited to the contributors.
Fates Harvest is a wonderful game if you want high powered changeling with consequences in a town with layers and depth and a game owner who cares deeply and is incredibly invested in her game and players. It's wonderful, play there.
Yes I'm plugging another game on my dev thread. Whatever, i can do it, FH is great. Also she codes on Miami so you know, go get a taste of the good stuff.
Edit: The +glance in question is now on Miami.

Oh this is awkward...
I am working on a project of my own to open a small MU for a handful of close friends and I, that I intend to have be more like a tabletop than a regular MU, and I actually @mail'd Darc about using his code, and if he's open to sharing or if he would want to be paid for it, because putting together code is hard work and I really do believe in fairly compensating folks for their work (I have a friend commissioned to do my coding, and she's being paid, and am about to pay another friend to commission some maps). He hasn't responded and I guess this is why, he probably thinks it was bait. I just wanted 1E code that had automated spends.

Speak to Annapurna @ FH. Her +xps is lush.
-
@a-meowley I haven't checked FH out because Changeling isn't really my jam. I know she has some really tight features, but ideally I'll have more than that to bring to my coder to make adjustments to, based on what I'm trying to do. I think a changeling-specific code skeleton would need more tinkering than I want, because I don't intend to have changelings be playable, u feel? Maybe I could throw Annapurna some dosh to make tweaks to whatever I end up with, though.
ETA: this is not relevant to the thread, though; I'm not really here to talk too much about this lil private thing I'm doing, just wanted to say that its maybe kind of funny that I reached out to Darc when I did, about using 'his' code, when it looks like he jacked it

We have kind of a sweet Discord and we're happy to answer questions or hear ideas or look at pictures of your cats or what have you. Thank you to everyone for their contributions of ideas to this thread especially; I love the idea of +glance.

I'm looking at making a motley of Lost who are part of the Italian Renaissance Festival held at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Entertainers, artisans, chefs, psychics, tour guides, gardeners, anything along those lines could fit in. In RL present day the festival is no longer held and is only annual, but in pretend fun time Miami, this could be quite different. I've always thought this Ren Faire subculture would be an excellent place for Lost. PM If you're interested.

Just an update:
We continue to work on our new CG and other code. I have rewritten all of our News Files. Our House Rules will be gathered in the same place and accessible via news (blah). We're picking up momentum and are having some pretty great discussions on our Discord. Player feedback during development is really valuable and I find that their excitement makes me want to finish that much faster.
Anyway, we're stoked. I can't wait for you guys to come play with us.

Will these files be easy to edit when needed, or will there be potential for long delays between House Rule creation and documentation?
-
@tinuviel it's pulled from the wiki like before. Changes can be done instantly.

Look, what I really want to know is are we going to have pre-established stats for Everglades alligators and Floridian panthers, so I can hit the grid with a swamp-pad full of animal retainers? Something's got to be protecting my attic full of bath salts, soul jars, meth and Changeling blood, and a little birdy told me gun laws are gonna be crazy restrictive on grid.
So let's see a preview of those security HRs, please.
-
@a-meowley To be completely honest, you kinda nailed the mood with the bath salts, meth, and soul jars. Alligators and Florida Panthers are also a-OK with me.
Also your little birdy is wroooong.
-
@sonder Hiya, quick question. Can you give a super loose ballpark idea about when the Mux might open? More than a year, 6-12 months, 3-6 months, less than 3 months, or such?
-
@jenny I am so hungry for this game. I'm incapable of hiding my interest.
