Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
-
(Not sure if this should be in SITD or Ads, but since I'm not the game owner or staff this more of a personal "come play!" than a real ad for the place.)
@ZombieGenesis Pointed this place out in my "any modern day" games, and so I decided to check out. They just opened up, the staff is really nice, and they're using the FS3 system with a super easy chargen.
What is Calaveras? Calaveras is described by staff as an Adult Non-Fiction Drama Game. (I think non-fiction is the wrong term but I get where they're coming from). It's a game inspired by any of the fictional non-fantasy/sci-fi shows out there. Dramas, sitcoms, etc. Play the hardboiled cop with a drinking habit, or the nurse with nightmares, or the PTSD afflicted army very trying to readjust to civilian life.
There appears to be a starting focus on Cop/Parademic/Firefighter RP, but the idea is a game to create interpersonal adult dramas. Such as things like NYPD Blue, House, Law & Order, True Detective, The Killing, etc.
I'm giving it a shot because it looks interesting and a refreshing change of pace from WoD.

@cobaltasaurus Yes! I finally get my Gilmore Girls MU*!
-
@tinuviel
I hope you're intimating you're apping a thinly-veiled Kirk analogue... -
@three-eyed-crow Oh man... yes!
-
I popped on, seems like a nice crew so far. I'll give it a shot.
ETA: Jack and Sally were extremely patient and helpful with me as I worked through chargen. Believe it or not, I've never made it through an FS3 character gen before! Huzzah!

Yay!
I am Briony, though will probably make something as well in the future to play with a friend. But I was impatient and wanted to try the game out.
If anyone wants to hit me up as Briony, go for it!
-
@cobaltasaurus YOU ALREADY HIT ME UP I mean excuse me AH HEM.
-
@thesuntsar I AM EXCITE
-
@cobaltasaurus in the midly constructive section we have a list of open games thing that we have been using for this primarily, so go chuck the link in that thread as well please!
-
I'm playing here now, just to try things out. Staff are super helpful and friendly, folks are friendly, and I kinda like the idea of normal drama for a change, instead of supernatural super-friends drama all the time.
-
I'm in.
-
So what is the actual drama? Are there any plots or just hanging out?
-
Are we at the point where we need a word for "without supernatural whatnots?"
-
'Mundane'

It's still pretty new, with (I think) most of us still getting our feet under us and figuring out our characters, so it's mostly hanging out right now.
There's a group running some criminal stuff, and a forest fire, and there was a drive-by yesterday.
But it's mostly fluff at the moment. Fun fluff, but fluff.

Most of my RP as Briony is interpersonal stuff, but I have a terrible schedule. Although, once I get used to my schedule I do want to start trying to run medical drama plots.

@insomniac7809 Would go with 'Serialized Drama', personally. Like a TV series, more or less.
-
I definitely get the sense that players are going to need to self-start their own stuff. Which isn't really a problem for me, I don't mind kicking stuff and seeing what happens.
-
@surreality Kinda works, I guess. There's plenty of TV shows with magical or sci-fi shit going on, but... can't say I have a better idea.

Calaveras now has it's own webclient! From my understanding Jack is working on getting it working through the wikidot page but for now if you wanna look at it:
