Any advice for someone that wants to come from Nubia or Jebe-Barkal?
-
What's a Nubian?

@Huzuruth : Chat with staff. Think about playing a diplomat.

The problem with playing on MU* derived from book series is that you must have read the series in question.
With this particular game it's really not a necessity; the basics are linked above, and it's really easy to pick up on. It's basically low-fantasy idealized France with angels and 'love as thou wilt' being the religious base. So for your own comfort level you might need to read the books, but plenty of folks do just fine. It helps that people are really mellow about letting you know something major (or just letting it roll off their back because pretendy fun time).
@Huzuruth My first advice would be don't, but beyond that (as @Echx has said), speak to staff about it, and most certainly play a diplomat of some sort, or at least someone along those lines.
Playing a commoner from Terre d'Ange is not recommended; playing one from elsewhere (there are a lot of xenophobic d'Angelines) is REALLY not going to net you a whole bunch of RP. I mean you'll get into the public at the inn scenes, but getting in on the plots and such would be difficult. Plus, going that route doesn't connect you to any other characters, which is one of the better ways of getting involved. I mean it can be done, but the hoops and the work would be a little daunting to a new person trying to get their foot in the door. It ends up being an entirely different game playing a character of this sort, and it's not necessarily an improvement.
ETA: Any basic concept you want to play can generally be shoehorned into a character type that will be able to get involved in things. I know staff will never tell you you CAN'T do a concept like this there, but they do generally recommend against it. Still, if you're really super interested and your heart is set, I imagine it could be done.

@Sunny Although Eldritch is opening soon (... maybe) and that'll eat my gaming time, I'm intrigued. How active/large a game would you say it is in terms of a playerbase?
Often I like a game but if only about six people play on it RP gets kind of circular and sterile for my tastes.
-
@Arkandel Peak right now seems to be 25-40 players; in the absolute dead of night (my time) there tends to be 5-6 people. People are often holed up in what look like private areas, but usually they will flock if somebody goes out in public, or just asking 'hey, anyone want to play?' generally gets plenty of bites. Tons of super friendly people who want to make sure everyone is having a good time.
-
I do like the pages with brief discussions of where the game is intending to go, or not go. Very helpful.

@Misadventure Yes!

I didn't link that one in my previous post with the linkage, but yeah, they put this together to help folks out.

I am totally trying to convince people to join the Le Blanc family too. We got fun things planned.
-
I too have been drawn here. We shall see how this goes. So far so good, I notice familiar names, but it's always weird to page people out of the blue and ask if they're people from other games. Did some people from the paulus disaster end up here? I noticed a Moroka and some other familiar names. (I would be tickled if I had found Moroka again).
-
More people should come play Nantes! I need family! And like the entire Nantes holdings are open. Or you could come play Paquets and attempt to murder me. :3
-
@Cobaltasaurus I personally zeroed in on Azzalle. It seemed to be the most interesting for now.
-
BTW. Whomever wants to can claim the XP bonus thing for recruiting people. I think it is done now but I joined before they called it done.
-
Whatever you do, NOBODY SAY ME. Reynard could use it, and he's the reason I went there in the first place so it's not even untrue! It's also something you'd do, to tell staff, rather than someone asking for it. =D I don't think they'll give it out even if you joined previous. The game has kind of had a bit of a population boom as of late.
-
I can totally request and see if reynard can get it. IF he wants it. I really don't care who. I'd put everyone but that seems a little abusive of the system. Since ya'll drew me here. As well as one or two other friends.

Tomorrow night at 7 EST is the royal wedding between the Dauphine and the Royal Commander. It should prove to be a ton of fun; everybody involved knows the value of getting to the fun parts of RP. Should see a lot of the heavy hitters there, if you have a character and are looking to make contacts.
Next week (I'm not sure which day off the top of my head) is the Big Parliament Session with at least one item on the agenda that will probably shape some major things going forward. I really can't say more than that. If you have a PC that is Comte or above, BE THERE to vote. If you think you might want to come but your PC is not nobility, PLEASE page me (Emma or Evelyn mostly) and I will find someone to sponsor you to come in with them, if I can't do it myself. Those below Comte can attend, but they don't get a vote,. On that same vein, though, again, we can find people to sponsor others to speak if you want to participate.
In that vein, I'm looking for a whole lot of characters to fill out L'Agnace. I have a list. Contact me on-game if you need a good, fun place to hook in. We are the first province to have fully mobilized for war, which is hilarious for a whole lot of reasons. The first being, of course, that we aren't actually at war currently.
I'd also dearly love to get a couple of heavy hitters in on the Sommerville side of things; they're the Chalasse rivals for the Sovereign Duc title; we got it back from them very very recently, and the whole situation is messy and wonderful and it would be awesome if I had a strong opponent willing to go toe to toe with Eve for the title.
Once the wedding and the Parliament session are done, I'll be back to doing events of some sort every other weekend. The next one I'm planning on doing (and have started the groundwork for) is a Tourney, which given current events is probably the best thing I can do. There's also going to be a hunt in the near future, and I'm entirely willing to entertain any ideas folks have that are not 'Oh look, Emma is having another party'. Not that the parties are bad -- we've had a lot of quiet politicking at them -- but it's still fun to have more variety.

Best books. I should really check this MU out. I don't know why I haven't before now.

@VulgarKitten
Come play. You will love it. Like. It would be impossible for you to not, with what I know about your interests. Ash and Skaldia are hands down the best staff team I've ever encountered. I'd rank Skaldia up there on a level with @EmmahSue in terms of ethics and brains and stuff. Ash is just freaking all around amazing. It makes it a really safe place to play. I've seen one instance of flip-out drama and it got dealt with on the spot. It was a miracle.
Anyway:

The L'Agnace page is a mess, because it's my work-in-progress for how I'm going to be redoing all the province pages. I'm experimenting / fussing with my own first.
