This stuff was my first taste of a whole 'nother style of Chinese hooch. See, there are three main branches of hooch here: the "sauce scented" (醬香) variety most famously known via Maotai, the "strong scented" (瀘香 or 濃香), and the "light scented" (汾香) variety. There are other varieties, naturally. The picture of the red bottles I'm taking back to Canada with me, for example, is the progenitor breed of its own category: "phoenix scented" (凤香), and there's dozens of other kinds. The Big Three, however, are the three I named.
This bottle is of the "strong scented" variety. As with the other stuff (the "phoenix scented" stuff) this stuff is unctuous as all fuck. It has an almost slippery mouthfeel. Unlike the phoenix scented stuff, though, this is all high and sweet notes. It lacks the breadth of flavour of the Shaanxi-originated stuff, but for that the flavour in its range is more intense.
I don't recall exactly what the ABV is, but it's either 50% or 52%. Again, this stuff is going to knock your brain cells into submission before you know what hit you. It's great stuff, especially when reading things like @VulgarKitten taking such pains to explain in great detail exactly how little he cares. At length.
