I've been told that my RP-style is intimidating as hell. I don't know why? I've always thought of my style as being light and somewhat humorous.
I don't know about 'light'. The things I remember were pretty bold and out there. I can see why some people would be intimidated.
But humorous yes! So those people are fools that are missing out.

My male chars get hit on far more than my female chars.

I play a dude in public and rarely get propositioned and never mobbed.
Some personalities and ways of carrying yourself are just straight up attractive.
I'm charismatic
Oh, of course you are. But @bored is @bored and will never not have people flocking because he is More Charasmatic Than Most in this particular way, that's all.

Okay, so while we're still on the topic of IC appearances in general (whether based on a specific PB or otherwise), if you're about to create new character(s) with another player - in other words they're kind of destined to be in a romantic/sexual relationship (*) - do you ask or provide input as to their looks?
(*) While we're at it, would you say you usually create characters more or less knowing in advance who their partner's player will be, or do you wing it once they hit the grid purely based on their RP?
I've never had the opportunity to 'app in' with someone, sexual partner or no.

Are you playing dudes in public? Can you put a literate paragraph together?
I play a lot of dudes. And I put together more than a few literate paragraphs.
I've been told that my RP-style is intimidating as hell. I don't know why? I've always thought of my style as being light and somewhat humorous.
Whatever, though. I don't get the crazies either.
@Ganymede Didn't you used to post about how much tail your, uh, whatever dude on that faux-Ireland game got?
Also I'm not saying I exclusively attract crazy, I just think that (as I said somewhere earlier in this thread) the MU community in general trends kinky and enough people are up for and seeking that kind of stuff that I would call it a norm more than an exception. Its only in the last few years that rape RP started being treated as a verboten topic and actively banned, for instance. In Ye Olden WoD thymes, it was rape from wall to wall.

I used to always 'app in' since it helped guarantee there's no drama involved in RPing relationships with strangers but also as kind of... quality assurance. But mostly the drama thing.

It's actually not hard to keep potentially offensive or squicky themes private. I think a lot more of that goes on than people think. It is just that a small number of (usually habitual) people dont enjoy without a non consenting audience or without being able to surprise people.
I kind of wish that games would just remove the "tee hee oopsie I was kidnapped and raped again! Come and save me/stop my tears by PKing someone!" Or "my God I forgot to ask before assuming I could impregnate/put you on a leash/whip out the oil can and traffic come, golly gee whilikers, dont get mad!" people, rather than declare a whole subset of RP, consensual or not, to be a bannable offense. But there are a lot of people incapable of discretion. And as someone who had to go through/approve tons of wolf blooded, thrall, and Changeling apps once upon a time...you know, there comes a point where reading one more emo mcDarkyDark write up about rape/white slavery/incest stuff gets to be too much. I think I have a super high tolerance, it doesnt bug me at all usually but even I hit my limit for volume on TR.

I occasionally make characters more or less knowing in advance who their partner's player will be, and, not gonna lie, I have been talked into playing on games specifically for romantic RP with a particular person. It's usually not the focus of my RP even with those characters, but there's something to be said about having a tragic backstory over winging it on the grid. Long burn.
And in those cases, we do end up talking about character's looks. Usually I tend to be on the unhelpful side of "whatever is good, play what you like!" but I have vetoed at least one PB.
-
@bored Dude, there's a reason I switched, beyond 'is not so obscure that I can't find pictures of them for anything'. (OK, in my case, it's 'does the batshit crazy eyes SO WELL and I need that', but. Also this.)
-
@surreality I'm not sure I follow the why? Or which of my posts you're answering, anyway. Were they just too attractive, or? I usually go for obscure (moreso because its easier to get 'normal' looks that way), although HorrorMU was kind of an exception because the necessity of playing a bunch of different 'characters' with the same physical person makes actors with large bodies of varied work a near-necessity there (I know you had some obscure model or such).
But well known PBs tend to end up with the weird IC typecasting stuff, intentionally or not. And even for partners, the popular ones (even if they're total crushes) are so common and overused that its not just hard to differentiate them from what they're famous for but from all the other people playing them. When every game has 20ish out of the same typical 50 people on its character roster, its hard to feel like you're even playing somewhere new.
-
@bored I normally do obscure, too. I recently switched over to Angelina due to better range (and good crazy eyes). Since... yeah, from Hackers and such through now.
-
I'm usually meh about my char looks anyways. So if I'm aping with someone, I'll ask them. Or I'll ask them to give me a few PB suggestions and I'll pick one. Or if I am feeling a certain type of look then I'll send a PB suggestion to them. It's not whatever you want, but it is a general, would you hit this?
Also @Ganymede - Please come intimidate me with RP. I want to see what all this is about.

Daithi. He didn't get a whole lot of tail, though; he was best known for getting gruesomely injured in just about every combat situation, despite being well-built for combat. He nearly got his head chopped off thrice in a single scenario.

I just finished up my new PC on New Orleans, Salty. I also play Sam on Echoes in the Mists, but I'm shaking the dust off of her. Further, I play Adeline on Marsilikos, Clarice on Fate's Harvest, and Amy on UC100.
I'm just getting back into things, as I'm still trying to pack all my shit in my old house for transport, and unpacking all my shit in my new house because there's a shit-ton of boxes.
-
@Ganymede Now I'm going to have to make a NOLA char. If I do, it's because of you. Know that. Own that.

Never had anyone stick around that long. Most of the folks I would get along with would get tired of the community and bugger off or get busy RL and stop MUing all together.

I straight up do no longer do any serious romantic relationship RP of the monogamous type. For one thing, I'm not very good at it and for the second, I've yet to have RPed in one where the other person didn't stop playing, or I stopped playing, or the game died, or we got super bored about it or... That said, my characters might still have some meaningful relationship with lovers. Friends with benefits sort of thing, where he gives a shit about them and if they went and said 'Hey, let's not sleep together any longer but let's still be friends' he'd be 'absolutely no problem. Hey, wanna hang out on friday and get shit faced and throw snowballs at the Templars?'-sort of thing.
Maybe part of it is that the 'leading up to sex'-RP is damn entertaining. The flirting, or awkward, or funny situations, or serious situations for that matter and that spark of attraction when it happens. Heck, I'd say that personally, if there was none of that before the actual TS, I don't know if I'd even RP out the sex at all, I'd likely not be interested - or I'd feel a bit weird, like... The RP leading up to it gives you so many cues to make it a good scene when it does, right?
I guess that's my ramble of the day. More to come later.
