TS - Danger zone

@Arkandel We've gotten through roleplaying to sex to philosophy back to sex...
-
@Tinuviel I need a map or a diagram but someone is going to draw naughty pictures on it.
-
-
-
@Tinuviel I call shenanigans. No Religion/Roleplay overlap? I those were all REAL nuns in that orgy. Extra bonus points!
-
@Jennkryst I find religious discussions with you lot even worse than constantly being reminded Mummy exists, so I opted not to include it.

Typical atheist denying the divinity of the Aten.

Alright, I'll get this thread back to its disgusting track by asking all the wrong questions!
Does the played-by (either your character's or someone else's) matter to you when it comes to TS at all? Does it influence how you play your PC or which characters they pursue or uh, how?
-
Nope. How you write is what influences me. I mean I might like to look at Chris Evans, but if you pose in a style I don't prefer - I'm going to pass. So it's all in posing style aka storytelling aka my preference of a writing partner.
-
Over in RPI land it used to be a running gag that you could be a dirty commoner with scars, a missing eye, wrinkly skin and you would still get all the mudsex you can handle if you can RP well. It's a bit more pronounced in RPIs which have a survivalist element so you'd have these grungy travel worn characters and the tressy tress socialites. Yet the objectively better looking descriptions would lose out to these mangy messes of meat when it came to sexy times.
EDIT - Minor note RPIs don't use played by, so all you had was the description in most case. Some few people would commission character art.

I mean, if someone has a skaggy looking PB I probably won't be very likely to get physically involved with them but like what RightMeow says, it's more about 'wow that was a really good scene and I like the way you write things and describe things, wonder if you're that good erotically'
-
I feel the need to say, that I don't typically think 'wonder if you are that good erotically' -- jus because it was a what I said comment.
TS for me is like a 5-10% of my story. I'm not against it. I have engaged in it. I probably will again. It's just got to fit in the story for me. That's where I am in my life and story writing time right now.
Now in my younger years.....
How ya doin'?

Sure! I mean, a PB contributes a lot to how I imagine a character looks, and that will color my reaction and how I figure my character reacts to them to some extent. But my reaction and my character's reaction aren't necessarily the same, so it's not a linear thing.
But, on an OOC level, I think the biggest effect is a negative one. Some PBs are just nopes. Not even in a "I am not at all attracted to this character on an OOC level but my character might be." Some PBs just bypass that and go straight to nope.

Not in the sense of attraction, I use the @desc to judge if my character's into them or not. But I do judge people for the kinds of PBs they use, and the people - though that is less a TS judgement and more an RP-in-general judgement.
-
What kind of PBs are bypass nopes, cliche ones like Jason Mamoa or porn star ones or what?
-
@Jeshin At least in my case I tend to frown on overly sexualised PBs. I don't care about the person in the picture doing or wearing whatever, but the thought process behind the choice of that particular picture out of all the others of the PB? That usually has me looking in askance.
That and celebrities that have been... rather terrible people, especially if the action is recent.
-
Judges judgingly
General Wiki appearance more than the pb itself tbh. I'm visually orientated. I've poked people for RP just on design quality.
I used to try to Rp with people using Alt-Girls under the mistaken assumption that the people playing them were familiar with the goth scene... I was wrong, they were just basic bland babes with colored hair and piercings listening to Nickelback and Coldplay.
Music too.
-
I try to be really hard FTB so my ts experience is limited.
However, I rarely look at a character's page unless I am trying to remember something about them. Also I find the little 'x has looked at you' notification creepy as hell (dunno why, just a me thing?) so I also usually avoid reading descs too.
So PB rarely play into if my character has sex with someone else.

So... how do you know what a character is supposed to look like?

Yes and no? Not really in general but I remember a certain pc's desc and rp style had me picturing them one way and then on seeing their pb it was so different that it just sorta ruined my mental image of them and screwed with the chemistry of the interaction, that happened once.
In general if I cannot picture someone strongly from their description, then the right playedby can help me see what they look like better but that doesn't affect whether or not my character would be attracted to theirs. That is usually more a question of their chemistry and whether or not they are my character's "type". If their hair is off or build is off or sex is off in the case of chars who are homo or hetero, then it is still possible for chemistry to overcome that, but it has to be degrees of magnitude better, if that makes sense.
If the pb is drastically different than the description (let's say a hazel eyed person with auburn hair) where you have been rping with them as a green eyed brunette in description for weeks or whatever, that has thrown me off enough to ruin the image of things before, but even peak Momoa or Jolie (sexiest guy and girl to me the player) would not be enough to prompt srp/ts if the chemistry of the characters is off or the other person's writing style is terrible or irritating to me.
