Good TV
-
I watched the first episode of 'American Horror Story : Cult' last night.
It was hilarious. -
I finally began watching The Expanse.
And just outright binging it.
Oh god I love this and everything about it and want all of it forever and ever.
This is the best sci-fi I have seen in a very long time. It's so good. -
The Expanse TV series is a fantastic adaptation. I'm a big fan of the books and the TV series is basically perfect.
It helps that they have the book writers heavily involved. And it helps that the book writers see it as a chance to sort of make the story a bit better, given the weird production hell the Expanse series has had. First it was going to be three books, then during the third book it was extended to four, then six, then during the fourth book it was extended to nine.
Also, the actor for Amos had read all the books prior to auditioning and basically came in and said "I want to be Amos". He's nailed the character so well. They all have, really.
-
School keeps me too busy for much recreational reading, sadly. I haven't finished the first book yet, but I plan to work through them. Amos is awesome. Absolutely love Chrisjen tho.

This is the best sci-fi I have seen in a very long time. It's so good.I also just started watching the series last weekend! I love it and badly want to binge it, but I've had like... a scene or a date or a concert every night this week. But the weekend. It is coming. And when it comes, the binging will follow.

I'm going through season 2 of Supergirl which is fun but...
... was Dean Cain always such a really bad actor? I mean distractingly, holy-shit bad? I remember loving Lois and Clark when I was a kid, this is poisoning my childhood! Sometimes he sounds like he forgets his lines in half-sentence or like he's reading them for the first time, what the hell dude?
-
@Arkandel
Lois and Clark was one of my favorite shows as a kid and I've rewatched bits of it here and there over the years, so I can say pretty confidently...the answer is, yes. Yes, Dean Cain was always a bad actor. It might belong in the 'shows you don't want to rewatch' thread, but it was still fun in an occasionally doofy 90s way. -

Just saw the trailer for The Punisher for Netflix. This looks like it is going to be good.
Added it:

Holy shit Star Trek: Discovery.
...yeah I don't give a fuck that I gotta pay for the CBS streaming service. If the rest of the season is as good as the first two episodes, it's gonna be worth it.
-
@Auspice That's good news, I'm watching it tonight. After those movies I can really use some actual good Trek.
It's not that the movies were necessarily bad, but they weren't Star Trek.

They used part of the original theme in the opening credits and I teared up a little.
NO SHAME.

@Arkandel
I am not sure how others feel but if it falls into bad news, I apologize. I thought this new Trek was pretty much movie Trek in tv format. -
@Jaded I...
... No. I'll watch it tonight and I won't cry until I do.
-
I like it, don't like the look of the new klingons, but otherwise, it's interesting.
-
After seeing the first ep of the new Trek, I stand by my earlier thoughts that Orville is the best Trek I have seen since DS9.
-
@ThatGuyThere
I am going to agree with this. I have been watching it on Fox.com and I will say I just saw the third episode and...it tackled a sensitive topic with some heart. I liked it. -
@Jaded I was dubious when I started watching the third ep of Orville but I think they did an amazing job. A complex episode about a complex issue with a complex ending. With just the right amount of humor thrown in for good measure. The Orville gets better with each episode, IMO. As for the new StarTrek...I dunno. Gonna hold off judgment till I see a few more eps.
-
Gonna jump on the Orville train.
Snoozed through most of Discovery's first episode, I guess I've got Klingon fatigue, even if they are blue this time around. Is it a completely new continuity? I don't really care at this point. I wish they'd do a series about rebuilding Cardassia after the war. I feel like reconciliation with enemies and rebuilding is more important a theme these days than creating new ones.
Orville's first kept me interested. Everything was new in it, even though the jokes were corny and mailed in, the mcguffin was at least interesting.
-
I was talking about Orville with someone on a game and they said, "It is TNG with toilet humor." They meant it as a critique but in a lot of ways I agree with the statement but mean it as a positive.
Discovery for me was just underwhelming. It was not bad really, I watched the first ep on the CBS broadcast and if I could watch the others for free I would but nothing about the first ep drew me in enough to buy a service I was not already signed up for to watch the rest of it.
If they put it out on DVD I would likely pick it up if it was on sale.Orville has consistently been entertaining for the three eps put out and while I am not sure I would pay for the privilege of watching it, I thought the first episode of Orville did a lot more to make me want to see more than the first ep of Discovery.
