@surreality I don't know if you're aware, there has been a resurgence of Jem product, and I don't mean that shitty movie that never actually happened because like Highlander 2, we do not discuss it.

IDW Publishing has a pretty sweet Jem comic book, and in 2015 there was a limited edition 20th anniversary line that came out.

      I, uhh...might be a fan.

        That's outrageous. Truly, truly outrageous.

I remember being so upset when I got my first Misfits tape and finding out it was a Danzig band and not the evil band from Jem.

This post literally made me laugh.
The odd thing for me is I really like both sets of Misfits, though I usually refer to them Misfits and Misfits <delay caused by brain remembering things> um the cartoon version.

@cupcake I was looking for a pic of one of the little outfits with the shoulderpads, and apparently one of the collector doll lines is making new dolls as well.

Not the same. πŸ˜• Do not how how I feel about this! Some looked nice, but. But. And probably WAY expensive (they are collector dolls, not play dolls).

Admittedly, most of the people making (or who have in the past made) non-Barbie collector doll lines are pretty epic sweethearts, so I will still throw love at them on principle even if I can't throw money at them these days like I useta. πŸ˜„

ETA: ...I may still have a weakness for Monster High dolls that I find on the cheap now and then that make me giggle or smile, because they're adorable as hell to my inner horror nerd and my inner toy nerd.

            Oh fucking well.

A few days late to the conversation here, but am I the only person who watches "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" that just does not like Josh at all? The dude's pretty damned dumb, makes horrible life choices, and is motivated primarily by his dick. Bring back Greg. At least Greg was smart and funny. 😞

@Aria Pretty sure that you're not supposed to like Josh for all the reasons listed above and as much as the fanbase loves Greg for his vulnerability, it's pretty clear that he and Rebecca would be toxic together.

@aria I think Josh has been through the process of being slowly deconstructed on the show, but they haven't gotten to the point yet of basically rebuilding him and letting him mature. Because holy hell yes he is so fucking immature. I miss Greg a lot, but he needed to get away from Rebecca in order to grow. Maybe if they stayed away from each other for a couple years, they'd be able to be healthy together, but alas. 😞

I just finished Season 2 last night, so I'm admittedly several episodes behind where all of the characters are now....

Josh's lack of intellectual and emotional depth reads, at least to me, as a lack of character depth. Even his sidekick Hector, with his weird relationship with his mom, seems to have more to him as a person than Josh the personality-free sunny California dude-bro does. (Though I suppose him being a blank canvas Rebecca can paint whatever fantasy she wants on is part of the point.)

With that said, I think that the reason Josh bothers me isn't simply because of the character himself -- although that's a big part of it. It's because of the number of times he's been shoved back onto Rebecca's romantic radar as an option after she's supposed to be 'over' him -- to the point that I no longer found any tension in their will they/won't they anymore, and could summon up exactly zero enthusiasm whatsoever for their latest stint together. I much preferred the focus on Rebecca's relationships with her female friends and if they're going to fling yet another man at her, I'd at least want him and their relationship to be interesting -- which I find Greg, as well as the prospect of Nathaniel, even if they're toxic.

My reaction to Josh is "You are boring and your plots are boring and I would like you to go away because every other person on this show is more entertaining than you.

I confess that even though I absolutely would love to watch this show, I couldn't get past the second episode because the level of second-hand embarrassment it evokes in me is staggering. I'm very susceptible to it in movies/shows and it just... yeah.

I honestly think Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of the best shows on television right now. It's incredibly intelligent and it does some serious deconstruction.

@auspice Give it three episodes to see if you like the premise. Understanding that there are a lot of things going on right under the surface that start bubbling up in Season 2 & 3. It really is one of the deepest most thoughtful shows on TV right now ... despite being a musical comedy.

I can't even look at the screen with shows/movies re: second-hand embarrassment. If it's one of those shows that leans on it as a primary source of moving plot, it's probably not a show for me.

I wouldn't say that it leans on it. It's most definitely not The Office or something like that. But it does have a lead character who makes a lot of bad decisions.

No, no you are not. I'm impressed with his pipes and his dance moves, but that's about it. And I like Rebecca with his family (and Valencia)...so basically I like all of the people around because Josh is there, but Josh himself makes my brain hurt. Nathaniel, on the other hand, fills me with delight, however I also think that Rebecca needs to focus on herself before Nathaniel is a thing.

I love this show down to my cockles because of all the moments in which I see myself (yes, even when Rebecca does something obsessively scary and shitty) and can 100% completely relate, and especially when Rebecca expresses something about mental illness for good or bad that makes me realize I'm not alone in the sensation being experienced.

Basically, if I wanted to pick a piece of media to help someone understand what I go through, Crazy Ex GF is what I'd show them.

.....Mine was Titus, for a long, long time. Especially the scene where he swears off dealing with his deranged parents and walks off stage at the end of his monologue, only to end up picking up the phone to deal with his mom again, because she's his mom.

Fortunately, I've met Christopher Titus (about three times) and he is equally awesome and hilarious in person, and we've had a few chats about what it's like to come from hideously dysfunctional families.
