Good TV

American shows tend to be 20+ episodes a season
A lot of American TV is dumping this model and I think it's for the better. Look at recent seasons of Good Place, for example. 13 episodes per season with a winter break in the middle. It makes for a lot tighter TV.
That said.
I 100% agree on Elementary vs Sherlock. I liked Sherlock. Elementary, on the other hand, I tried one or two episodes of and it just felt bland. It felt like Yet Another Cop Procedural with a Sherlock set dressing haphazardly tossed on top.

Lol, it shows so much. In episode 2, Dracula pretty much is Dr. Who. I couldn't get through episode 3, it was complete trash.
Moffat can be so great, and he can also be so bad. I think he just needs a good handler to filter his ideas.
I think he starts with great ideas, and he's also - obviously - a pretty talented writer. His dialogue is often very memorable with quips and comebacks that elevate the material and showcase his characters' development.
On the other hand he tries so hard sometimes to let the audience know how smart he is, and to make commentaries about the modern lifestyle. That's what I meant by self-indulgence being his vice here, someone should have pointed that out to him.
Sometimes the material speaks for itself and it's... enough. Not every show needs to be about everything.

This has probably been said to death by others, but I'm really enjoying 'The Expanse'. Thanks to @Sunny for pointing it out to me.

As someone that was born and spent a lot of time in rural farmland on the Canadian border I really get a lot of the show.
It has been a kind of happy surprise to me that a lot of urban folks like it too

@WildBaboons It kinda reminds me of the fringes of my hometown in Nebraska, at least with a bunch of added Canadian slang. I ended up moving to a major metro area (Chasin those big city slams. Ferda.), but I secretly dream of going rural.

I just got "chel".
Reilly and Jonesy are all "chel before praccy" and I was trying to figure out whatever the fuck chel was. I looked it up and lololol.
When the NHL video game goes:
ENNN...
AAAAYY
CHELfuckin love it. Is that an actual thing in Canuckia?
I'm now on season 3 and love the shirtless model dudes after 2 season of clothes not being Katys forte. Turnabout is fail play.
I could watch her punt girls between the legs all day, and I mean that not in some kind of ball busting fetish way. I mean that more in a "My SO knows so many girls worth muff punting and would support her doing so and be all THERES MAH BABY if she did" way. Katy is a fucking badass.

@Ganymede I like the character, but yeah, the actress is the weakest link on the show. Roald is a secondary character and has more laughs per screen time. At least that's my impression by season 3.
My favorite season 3 thing is how they expanded on Jonesy and Reilly past being just about Katy.
