Battlestar Galactica Re-Re-Reboot announced.
Link HERE
Short version: Mr Robot show-runner. Designed around Ron Moore's Galactica reboot, not 80's Galactica. So Say We All. May be a continuation or additional mythology surrounding the superior BSG reboot.
Update/Edit: THE CATCH: It'll be on NBCs new pay-streaming network: Peacock.

Catching up on Black Lightning. One episode left of the second season.
It's pretty good. I mean, a little overly sappy at times in that same way all superhero CW shows are, but I can deal with it just to see some actual fucking diversity in the cast that isn't by the numbers tokenism.

@Coin For real tho.

I also think they need better choreography for the fight scenes except the hallway/multiple opponent scenes where Blackbird goes up against a bunch of thugs. Those two scenes are fucking baller. The rest of the fight choreo needs work, but now with Arrow ending maybe they'll have the resources for it (although Batwoman might pull from there).

@Rinel You know what though... Arrow jumped off a cliff early but (in my humble opinion) so did Flash, and it didn't take as long.
I'm quite fine with some soap opera elements in superhero series like this but it just kills the pace to have 10-minute long scenes in which characters are doing nothing but declare their undying love for each other in every episode, especially with cheesy, predictable dialogue. That stuff gets really boring, really fast because of how repetitive it is.
The Felicity Smoak arcs killed Arrow for me since the entire series revolved around them. Then by season... I want to say S3 of Flash the same thing happened there, too, and I stopped watching.

CW Show Formula:
Character A keeps a secret for a good reason.
Character B finally finds out.
Character B: OMG HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME.
Character A: I had good reason but I'll never do it again.
M. Night Shamalama-style plot-twist: CHARACTER B IS ALSO KEEPING A SECRET, STAY TUNED NEXT WEEK WHEN CHARACTER A FEELS BETRAYED.It gets old, fast.

Character A keeps a secret for a good reason.
What grinds my gears is when the secret is kept for no fucking reason at all. It's only there to generate cheap drama. It's such lazy writing.
I hate it, too, but I just really hate the cycle of some of the shit. Like Joe keeping the truth about Iris' mom from her. He had a really damn good reason and she held it over him way too long. Like she was more upset about 'omg daddy kept a secret' than the actual contents of it.
Joe is the best TV dad how dare you Iris

Joe is the best TV dad how dare you Iris
He really is tho.
I think I like the Flash so much because, despite the fact that like 95% of serious potentially world-ending problems would be solved by about a week's worth of uncomfortably honest conversations, the characters really and truly do care about each other on a "drop everything and come help" level. In a period where everything is dark and grim and gritty and awful, the Flash is unafraid to be this campy melodramatic beacon of love and friendship and Barry hugging Joe oh my God
Is it high quality? Of course not! But it is Good, like Doctor Who is Good, and that means I love it.
Sometimes you just need a bit of unrepentant Goodness.

For those of us who are still living the joyous life of children, Infinity Train has apparently been made into a series.
It's no Unikitty, but then since Teen Titans Go and until Thundercats Roar, what is?
-
Started Carnival Row, finally.. I don't think I'm going to make it, though. Does it get better? The first two episodes were quite the slog to get through. I kept having to rewind because of random naps that happened. On paper it's everything I want in a show, but it's so slooooow

So I'm sure part of it is that I generally know what's coming, but man--I enjoyed The Expanse as a TV series way more than I am enjoying it as a book one. I guess I need to get ahead of the TV show to accurately assess how I feel.
-
@Rinel The second half of book one really really picks up. Book 2 is awesome, I wish my dad would hurry up with book 3, I want to read it!

-
@Rinel Ah, so I am not the only one reading the book at watching the show at the same time! Though I am almost done with the book and just started watching the show, so I think I am way past season 1 as far as TV show goes just by finishing book 1.
-
I watched the series first, then started the books. I think the series made a good choice by combining viewpoints chronologically in ways that aren't represented in the novels; it's a lot easier to follow the story that way in the television medium.
EDIT: Chrisjen is so amazing that even with her introduction being way less than stellar, she's still my favorite character.

I just started watching the first episode of season 4 of The Good Place and

Mindhunter is turning out to be a truly fascinating series.
And not just because Jonathan Groff is in it.
