@ganymede I don't do karaoke out of consideration for others. (Seriously, I sound like a bullfrog with a head cold when I sing. It's bad.)

Car karaoke, however, is a totally different story. You bet your ass I'm gonna sing along at top volume to Iggy Pop, L7, and the Dead Milkmen. If you don't like it, get out.

So, that was the episode of West World that I've been waiting for since starting to watch this series. Amazingly good, heart-felt, compelling storytelling.

Completely makes up for having gone to see First Reformed yesterday.

I was so sleepy last night that I had to pause it fifteen minutes before the end to watch the rest this morning as I got ready. But it was really good, yeah. They've been doing a lot of interesting character pieces this season.

Legion is the absolute shit and I sincerely think it is, IMO, one of, if not the best thing on television right now. Fuck, I love that show.

I really, really enjoyed S1. S2 has been kind of a mixed bag for me, there have been moments that utterly surpassed the first season and then entire subplots that just felt like filler...but dude I can not even imagine better casting for Amahl, that guy is perfect.

I am really enjoying the show, but it's hard to watch sometimes.

There is one plot that was kind of filler but I am pretty confident that they're going to circle back in the last episode or two and kind of wrap it all up in a nice bow. I dunno. I have faith.

Season 2 of Luke Cage might be the best Netflix Marvel season yet.

@auspice I'm 2/3 of the way through and so far agree that it's at least on par with the first season of Jessica Jones. My only complaints are that some of the symbolism is groan worthy in your face (looking at you crown painting shots) and the music isn't near as effective as the 1st season.

From what I have seen currently it is the only Marvel show that has had the second season be better than the first.

The first half of season one is... meh. Then it just gets really good.

The Framework saga was incredible television.

I totally agree on the music front.

The first season focused on hip hop, which is Luke's genre of choice and it is what he grooves to. That's why it fit so well.

This season chose the music of Harlem and of Jamaica. I understand why. We got jazz. We got R&B. We got the traditional and modern music of the island. Hell, we even got some southern blues (fitting for Mariah since it's what her family came up from). But because it's not Luke's music, the cadence was off.

In the later episodes as we got back to hip hop (oh, 7th Chamber, when you came in....), everything clicked.

@auspice It wasn't just the genre. Season 1 had some funk/soul too. It was more how the music was just so infused in the episode. It was like another character on the show and not just background.

This season it seems like there is just a lot more of it and it's so watered down compared to the effect it had last time.

I can agree with that. Totally.

The scene direction was weaker, too. The writing was incredible. It was great in season 1, but it got stronger. The music and scene direction got weaker tho.

I liked the music direction of Season 2 about as much as Season 1. In Season 1, we were watching the story of Luke Cage. We were in his head where his music was playing.

In season 2, we were watching the story of Harlem. Two sides of a war that was playing out. So we saw the story from their perspective with bits of the hip hop from Luke Cage who was thrown into the mix.

It was a lot more subtle, but if you look at the scenes and story focuses, the music tended to match whichever side was 'acting' at that point, almost like the music styles themselves were battling.

I don't know. Maybe I read too much into it, but that's the vibe I got while watching.

Oh, the irony. I kind of loved S2's music better. I grew up in an area where reggae was frequently heard, so maybe that's why.

I like both seasons and the mixture. But most of all, I still like the 'live' performances by the musicians most of all and glad it continues. I like that they found a way to expand it beyond Harlem's Paradise this season for live performances (looking at you Ghostface Killah).

I'm just a surge protector doing my job, sir.
