And the Defenders! Although Mr. Rand might need a new writing team.

The Defenders is, unfortunately, garbage. There are some good lines, and some good moments, and a nice wink at the audience saying "yes, we know Danny Rand is a raging moron". But ugh. UGH. CAN WE JUST STOP WITH THIS ENTIRE ANTAGONIST FACTION, IT IS THE WORST.

If that show had 100 hours, approximately 88 of them would be Danny Rand whining about his unfair fate of being a billionaire with super powers.

The best hour would be the one where Jessica rolls her eyes and side punches him a la Hulk and Thor.

In all fairness almost no one in the MCU has a 'secret identity'. The only real examples I can think of are Spider-man and Daredevil. Black Panther, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye are probably 'secret identity adjacent' since I think just about anyone with some clearance can look up their real names but I don't think the average person on the street necessarily knows who they are. On the other hand everyone knows Tony Stark is Iron Man and I think most people know Captain America's real name is Steve Rogers.

After that I think most of the characters are like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Thor, Doctor Strange, Gamorra, and Groot and are using their actual names.

Quite likely since he was basically a war hero considered dead for decades. There was no point withholding his real name before he was fished out of the ocean.

Remember that Black Widow dumped all those SHIELD files public in The Winter Soldier. Folks don't need clearance.

Actually, as mentioned in Age of Ultron, Hawkeye's records were scrubbed from S.H.I.EL.D.'s files (with the help of Nick Fury) as a way to protect his family. So Hawkeye still has a secret identity... kinda. They know about him not about his family.

@miss-demeanor I try not to remember Age of Ultron. 😐

ETA: Or the really stupid narrative choice to give Clint a secret family.

@roz Unfortunately, its now canon for the MCU and we must deal with it as a 'thing'.

@roz They probably had a reason. His family will probably die in Infinity War, which could explain his absence from all movie-related promotions.

... I am not saying it's a good reason either way, though.

@arkandel Well, we know that Ant-Man manages to get out of 'superjail' that he, Falcon, and Hawkeye were left in at the end of Civil War (his own post-Civil War movie with Wasp shows that clearly). Presumably the other two do as well, but its just as likely that Falcon and Hawkeye are in hiding (ie. minor characters that are unncessary to the plot) after the prison break so they don't get taken back to the prison.

@thenomain I SEE YOU, SIR! You will have to try harder than that!

MCU has always been closer to early Ultimate Marvel than Regular Marvel so my guess is you are exactly right, they will kill off the family for pathos most likely sicne that is exactly what happened to Hawkeye's secret family in Ultimates series 2. (Yes I just spoilers part of that story but it has been out for a decade so I have zero guilt over it.)

I'll be honest: People who conflate different mediums as the same source are one of the things that has turned me off comic books for most of my life. Not just this, but it's the topic of the day.

This bugs the shit out of me because of anyone, you'd think that comic fans would understand that different versions of the same character are distinct entities.

@thatguythere @Roz Yeah MCU Hawkeye is basically Ultimates Hawkeye, right down to his initial costume (I think we all agree that is better than the chainmail and lederhosen one?). His family was killed in Ultimates but not by Thanos, in a much more messed up way. Much more 😞
