RL things I love

@TiredEwok Yeah, just where mine are. Along with all the collectible popcorn buckets we have gathered over the years. Perk of being an AP holder (well former, they finally priced us out this year) and living 30 minutes from D-land.
-
Oh man. It's a good thing I don't live close to any of the Disney parks. We'd be in trouble.
-
@TiredEwok I should take a photo of our kitchen sometime with them all on display.
-
I would love to see your collection.

We really need a geeky collections thread. So much. You two should start this. Yes.

I shall!

Apparently wombats in fire effected areas are not only allowing other animals to take shelter in their deep, fire-resistant burrows but are actively herding fleeing animals into them.
Forgot to edit: I got caught by fake news here. They are not herding them in. But they are, as grouchy, preferring to be alone, creatures, accepting that others might be able to come in, if they stay over there and don't talk to them.
-
I knew I loved wombats for a reason. And not just because I love the word 'wombat', which is just a great word.

Random thought.
When I was a kid in the early 80s my neighbor's mom had a job where she drew advertisements. Before the internet era people actually did photography with darkroom and drew pictures of the product for catalogs (the SEARS catalog was a powerful force back then).
It made me think about how back in the day comic book artists, graphic artists, etc were basically contracted to draw something and then securely transport what was likely the original copy of the work to their employer. These days there are drawing tablets where your mistakes are eraseable. I'm not saying the older artists were more talented, but the risk of destruction of their work (and/or needed rework) was much higher.
It then made me think about how industries are changing. I'm sure the art supply industry has taken at least a little bit of a hit due to people moving away from paper and pencil (I say a little bit because there are plenty who still use physical art supplies), much in the same way that the lightbulb industry is bringing in a lot less cash due to LED bulbs lasting longer.
Anyway, I always thought it was cool that Ryan's mom did that. In a way it's kind of a lost art.

I have some insight here:
For one, many comic artists do still prefer to work in a physical format. As someone who spent a semester in art school and has dabbled with tablets... pencil/paper has better tactile feedback. I can see the merits of a tablet, but it is still quite common for something to be drawn physically and then scanned in to be worked on in Adobe. The biggest hit in comics has been lettering. Lettering used to be a whole career in and of itself. Nowadays, however, artists (and/or the writer) are expected to do lettering themselves. This is why, in my WRITING degree program, I had to learn how to do comic lettering.
I enjoyed it, but our prof said for most people... it's their least favorite few weeks of the whole program.
But there just isn't work in lettering anymore. There are people who get freelance gigs doing it here and there for the odd artist/writer team that doesn't enjoy it, but it isn't the career it was.
Same could be said for inking, but I think that was often someone who was striving to be an artist in a sort of not-internship-but-still-prove-yourself-to-us role.
-
@Auspice Oooh good point about the lettering. I hadn't thought of that. I also know of some comic artists who still work physical, and I think that's great.
TBH I'm trying to move over to digital because I like being able to control layers and work through them without the risk of erasing and smudging, but 100% props to people doing it physical.

An Apple Pencil is absolutely on my list of things I Want so that I can doodle more. I'm bad at the drawing thing, so I just waste paper and get angry.

Today, I woke up. I mean, most days I do but this is 5:00 in the morning and my husband was screaming.
Screaming for me to bring a bucket into the bathroom.
You can guess what I thought. We have a six year old and had delivery pizza last night. (Salmonella hoooooooooo!)
But no, no when I get there it's a snake and he is screaming and standing up on the toilet. I felt like I had stumbled into a tom and jerry cartoon.
The snake has wedged itself between the wall and the toilet pipey thingamabob.
I can't get the snake out, I mean it's just a brown house snake and it's harmless except for NOW MY MOTHER IN LAW IS ALSO SCREAMING AND MY EAR DRUMS. ALSO MY DAMN SLEEP.
But it's the funniest thing, and now my husband is telling everyone it charged him while he was on the shitter and I can't stop laughing.
This is why you shouldn't leave your windows open in Africa. It's not often we find pythons, they're usually adders. And watch out, they charge.

Eldest just received official confirmation of his acceptance into his first choice college.

A few friends from work and I joined a basketball league together (4 of us and 6 randoms).
In our first game we played last year's champions. These guys had their own custom jerseys. They had a coach. We didn't even know each other's names, and the pace compared to our pick-up runs was insane - I played like 28 minutes and got gassed. We turned the ball over so much!
Oh we also lost by fifty points.
It was amazing, I can't wait for next Sunday.

Meeting someone who goes on genuinely fascinating rants and then says, 'Sorry, I'm bad at small talk.'
Oh precious child. Me too, friend, me too. And that's a good thing.

They allow dogs at work.
One of the pups that's around more often is this wonderfully sweet pit and she adores me and I adore her.And I admit it gave me a bit of joy today when her human brought her on her 'rounds' and the person that sits next to me reached out to pet her and she went 'nope' and came right to me to lean up into my arms for snuggles and happy grunting.
