Things I love: SSRIs, cats, and this ridiculously tedious whipped coffee.

My depression has basically disappeared completely and I'm both shocked and perplexed as to how tf this happened.
Obviously you went for a walk and drank some water.
And had some kale.
I've been chugging kale and SSRIs for years now, so clearly there's something to this.

Now, I know what you mean. But I'm imagining the most amazing smoothie.

I now have a .edu email address again.
GIMME MY SHOPPING DISCOUNT, FUCKERS.

Surviving social distancing. Disassembled my vacuum and reassembled it cause it sounded like a dying giraffe (I work on my own car, but these screws are so tiny I was sure I'd lose things or break it).
Hands! Lightning from my hands! Dun dun duuuun.
Okay, half of this is cause I got lightning from my hands stuck in my head and I wanted to share the ear worm.

It's freaking magic to pull off something like that. WELL DONE.

My deck feeder "pets" are bringing more friends, but they do occasionally fight with each other. I thought I had primarily one Stellar's jay and one douglas squirrel, but I started to suspect that there were two individuals of each, and finally I saw them all together (in a four way very loud thumpy frisky squabble) recently. They're all still very shy if I go out to the deck, but now the jays will peck the railing of our crappy old deck extremely loudly and hop up and down to get my attention if they see me at my computer and there aren't peanuts in the shell available, and the squirrels will come right up to the door (it's a glass paneled French door) and do the laser pew pew pew call at me to put out more too. If they don't see me at the dining room table (where I use my laptop), they'll hop/fly/scamper all around the windows in the upstairs living room looking for someone to scream at. They are super fun and relaxing to watch (even when they're making a racket), along with all of the fat little finches and chickadees and juncos.
We can't have bird feeders on the ground, because we have bears. So I didn't put out any kind of wild bird/squirrel feeding stuff for a long time, but I'm really enjoying it this year. I'm sure all my neighbors are wondering where the fuck all the peanuts/peanut shells are coming from if they do yard maintenance though.

When you crack open a book, read the first line, and go, "Oh damn, I'm going to like this."
I don't know why I always do this. Hubs aunt works as an editor for Penguin Random House and sends me books. I've liked every single one of them, but for some reason I still let them sit on the shelf for 9+ months before I read them.

Now the question is what book elicited that reaction?

The Library Book, Susan Orlean.

I think I have this remote-work thing figured out, and I haven't been happier in a while.
I take the kids to their grandmother's in the morning, then hit the office for a couple. Take my work back home with me. Eat lunch at home. Go get the kids in the late afternoon. Get dinner for everyone. Danny Kaye on the Google Home player. Then the partner arrives, and we get to talk and chat about our day. Get the kids entertained and ready for bed, then settle down again.
Like, this -- this is good. This is real good now. I know that others have it rough and bad, but it's been a while since I've felt this good.

I have to double post to put up this 15 minute video.
This is where I live.
One of the tornadoes last summer tore through a neighborhood 100 yards south of where my house was. I ran through that subdivision regularly. It was flattened. The old foliage has been torn apart. What was once a forested little lane is now plain, with rebuilt houses. I can remember the eaves rattling and siding flying around outside. I remember the golf-sized hail that struck my new and old cars.
But that wasn't the scariest part.
It was a rare weekend that I wasn't in the Oregon District that summer. I was actually at home when the shooting happened because my partner was out of town and I was watching the kids. The club that was shot apart is a place I've been to several times, and the bar next to it is one of my favorite dives. Nine people were killed, but there were dozens shot and injured in just thirty-two seconds.
But I was at home this time.
Just in case you want to know a little more about why I'm so thankful now. And happy to be happy.

I'm not going to say that I love this, but, I finally got to do a "Per my last email" response to an email where I have to repeat the same thing because someone didn't get the point the first time.
I giggled.

After doing it once, you will find yourself doing it again and again out of pure enjoyment because... idiots.

My mom got worried about the feral cats in our area and started feeding them, on the downlow so it wouldn't make my dad mad. He found out about it. He went out, bought giant bag of cat food, and took over feeding them. We talked about eventually doing catch/spayorneuter/release when we can, and it sounds like my mom is going to get the stuff setup for beds that will let us do that with as little trauma for them as possible.
When they left to go camping, my mom told me to feed them once in the morning only because otherwise the racoons get into the food. He pulled me aside and asked if I could also feed them some before dinner time, early enough that the racoons won't come.
I went out this morning to feed them and some of them came running. None of them came anywhere NEAR close, but they def realized I was feeding them and swooped in as soon as I left. Yaaaaaaaay.

I made a video early on of basic stuff my kids would have to be able to do - like finding their missing assignments.
Heaven help me, I have sent those videos out so many times. Just don't even bother pointing out I've said it so so so many times.
No one reads group emails.
-
There have been studies done. The average person only reads the first 3 lines of any given email.
The number of jobs I've had (Customer Service) where I've had to argue with my bosses as I've developed form letter replies / macros and tried to trim them down from 3-5 paragraphs into succinct replies and/or packed the pertinent information at the top...
Yeah.
Yeah.
People don't read shit / they only glance at the first few lines. Put everything vital in those first few lines.

I got eggs. After 9 weeks of trying, I have 6 fresh eggs in my kitchen right now. I am so happy I could squeal.

My doggo went to the vet today. Normally, I wouldn't be happy about this, but he's hit 10 years old and sometimes his breed doesn't make it much past that.
Turns out, all the things I was worried about are various kinds of cysts. I can go back to referring to them as his "old man lumps" instead of freaking out about him getting more and more of them.
