Rather than focusing on the results of my hip x-ray (arthritis, bleh)... Instead I am focusing on:
Since I was a teenager, I've had issues of cracking & peeling & itchy skin on my feet. Every time I've gone to get it checked out, I get told 'probably athlete's foot' and given stuff to treat that. It's never helped.
Last I was at the derma for my quarterly follow-up, I talked to the guy I was seeing. One of the fresh out of school working under an experienced practitioner sorts... Explained hey, I'v tried the fungal-treatment stuff so much, it's never helped. He gave me, instead, prescription strength moisturizer and another cream that he said acts as a 'barrier.'
One month in and my feet have not looked and felt this good in well over a decade. SO NICE.

I love our older cat, a dilute orange tabby who walked in the front door of our rural house as a scrawny and wormy 10-week-old kitten over 14 years ago and promptly took over. As well as being elegant with a hint of goofiness, he is strong-willed, personable, loving, and wholly individual.
We nearly lost him to acute renal failure at age four, then managed the disease successfully for over a decade. However, as our vet told me on Monday when I took him in, kidney disease has finally caught up. We may be able to get him back on his feet and living comfortably for a bit more with IV fluids followed by further treatment. If we can't (and it doesn't look hopeful right now), he'll still have lived much longer than he might have, and every second of that has been a joy.

So having diabetes sucks (boo), but I discovered this fantastic app called MySugr. You use it to record your blood sugar levels, but it's also a game at the same time - there's this little dude called the Sugar Monster and you get points for each time you register your blood sugar, in addition to info like taking your meds, activities you did that day: drove, went to work, went shopping, exercised, how you're feeling, what you ate, etc. Each action gives you X amount of points, and if you make 50 points in a day, you have successfully "chained" the monster. Each time you input your blood sugar, the monster makes a little noise like a crunch crunch sound or a tongue phhbbt or whatever, and it's really cute. There are also challenges you can opt into.
So yes, the health problem sucks, but I've found something that actively encourages me to keep it under control in a way that's really motivating me. Oh, and you can customize your monster's name. Any suggestions?

Painting, I love painting miniatures (and occasionally going to the game shop and playing with them) but since mom passed I've had so much apathy for sitting down and putting brush to figure. It's been four years now and my output of finished figures has been negligible with various responsibilities. Still, it felt good to sit down with my kids for the past two weeks and paint again. We've been working nightly after I get home from work (or playing Mahjong when we have a fourth wind) and it's helping me get more positive.
Wow, going through I've been a real lump (hobby-wise, working way too much overtime until recently) and haven't had a good sit down, play a game, and take photos of it as we play in two years.
I need to get out and play more as well as paint more.

Unfortunately for Barrett, that particular statute is substantially limited. Bar members remain entitled to compensation for their work, even if they are appointed under this Section. If there is no compensation, then the courts may indefinitely postpone trials until counsel can be appointed.
It is unlikely that Nixon will be forced to represent the defendant. An intrepid judge, however, may order that all new indigent defendants be released upon their own recognizance until their counsel can be appointed and their cases can be heard, or issue a writ of mandamus forcing the local government to fund the public defender's office.

It doesn't sound as if the intention is to force the Governor to actually represent clients as much as it is to shed some publicity and apply pressure on the situation. On that end it's working, but I don't know anything about the political situation there to tell if antagonism will help matters or make them worse.

Worse, of course. Lawyers are notoriously thin-skinned.
But it's an important thing to point out. Public defender offices are getting slammed, and their budgets slashed. Courts are fronting a lot of money to keep compliance with the Sixth Amendment. The general public naturally does not understand why this is a huge problem, so I can understand why Barrett is going after Nixon.
You can't really address a community crime problem by shuffling off offenders. You solve it by reintroducing them back into society, and turning them into valued members again.

I usually don't give a shit about the Olympics other than having the usual glamour sports on in the evenings when there's nothing else to watch. However, I've become fascinated with the saga of Or Sasson, Israel's >100 kg judoka.
His first bout was scheduled to be with the Egyptian judoka in his class, Islam El Shehaby. Islam was receiving pressure to withdraw from the match, which is a typical action taken by Middle Eastern/extreme Islamic nations when faced by Israeli athletes. Some Egyptian officials even made noises about revoking his Egyptian citizenship, especially if he lost to Sasson, but El Shehaby decided to fight anyway.
Sasson beat him pretty soundly, and El Shehaby refused to shake his hand or acknowledge him, prompting the crowd to start booing. Not only was it disrespectful to Sasson, but considered disrespectful and dishonorable in terms of the sport's etiquette - you always bow or shake hands after the match is over.
The "love" part of this? Sasson has advanced to the semi-finals. I'm oddly excited by this.

A good cause that gives me warm fuzzies (pun not intended) on the whole, but worth watching this clip even if you don't care about what she's talking about for the wolf tummy rubs throughout.
As a former werestaffer, wolf tummy rubs make me inordinately derpy-happy, even when sick enough I can barely even think straight. Because grar-so-fierce.
