I personally think that the show is better without either. Both seemed gaudy in my mind’s eye.

No, in the books the only three ta'veren where Rand, Mat and Perrin. However it does make sense to kind of broaden things to Egwene. As for Nynaeve, I don't think Logain saw ta'veren, my head is telling me that the simplest explanation is that after Moiraine's conversation that Nynaeve's explosive first channeling was far stronger and far more powerful than any of the Aes Sedai he had faced that everything resonated with him.

I mean, she basically upcast a Cure Mass Wounds upcast to the highest possible level. Shit had OOMPH.

Again, I don't think that's the actual explanation they will have in the show, but I thought it would be a fun nod to the fans if it was.

I also think actually making Egwene and Nynaeve ta'veren would be a cool change, because loads of crazy stuff happens around them in the books, they just don't ever manifest the overt weirdness of it like Rand and Mat. They're more like Perrin.

Yeah I'm aware, sorry I worded that badly. I meant that the scene with Nynaeve wasn't him seeing a ta'veren, it was more the feedback from her going ham and doing a healer LB3 (to put it in Final Fantasy 14 terms) and saving the entire party.

I saw an interview with the show runner that said he envisioned finishing the series off in 8 seasons. Given the current pacing I'm not sure how that will be possible without dropping a lot.

There was a lot in the books that could be cut but here is to hoping the later seasons are more than 8 episodes

Yeah I saw that too, and his point was that they didn't want to go longer than 8-ish because then people would age up a lot and the story really only takes place over like 2 years or so. Which I totally understand.

Hahah, that's an issue but Mat Cauthon literally becoming another person isn't?

Joking aside, I think audiences would understand and/or not care as long as the cast works out for that long. Also they could have easily explained that through stress; look at before/after pictures of most POTUS where they age like hell over a term of so much responsibility placed on their shoulders.

And that's without all the horrible things that happen to some of these characters over the course of the books.

Speaking of which... uh, in a show already heavily criticized for its woke-ness, I wonder if they are going to show the sul'dam/damane stuff as written.

Love that Amazon drops episodes at midnight GMT so that we get to see them on Thursday evenings lol. Anyway, really enjoyed Episode 5, I think they did a good job building up a few characters and introducing another. Next episode is 6 and that was being highly spoken of by critics so I'm really looking forward to it.

Another rewatch. Anyway, looked closely at the figurines that Steppin is checking out and ooohhhh boy, I'm happy that we are at least getting this fellow:

Spending some time at the Forsaken scene there are 8 figurines and they look to be, going from right to left --

I'm not actually sad if they cut out some of them like Be'lal and Rahvin, tbh. If they only use 8, those are probably the key 8 that I'd use.

Without spoilers this time.

I enjoyed Episode 5 - in fact I think it was the best one yet. This was for a simple reason; they finally started to slow the fuck down and let the characters breathe, develop and interact with each other.

It was also the first time I thought Warders - although we haven't quite seen the Gaidin per se yet - was characterized differently than the books but it felt more like fleshing them out than just departing from canon.

The one lingering concern; there are two episodes left. How will the pacing work to close the season out?

I have to admit that I was disappointed that they cut Caemlyn/Elayne/Galad/Gawyn/Min entirely and transposed Loial and Logain's procession and a few other things to Tar Valon. But I understand why they did it, especially with only 2 episodes left. Blu and I finished the episode and looked at one another and said, "Other than people getting to Tar Valon and Perrin going wolf-y for the first time, was there anything that actually -happened- in that episode?" I can see @Arkandel's viewpoint of letting the characters breathe, but it felt like a major change in pacing from the previous episodes, and a jarring one at that.

I did allow for some very interesting character and setting explorations though. I like Loial, I like the eterna-gold where the rings go back into it after an Aes Sedai dies (and presumably where new rings are forged from), I found the Warder-funeral very interesting (only one member among them grieves? maybe so that all of the rest can stay combat-ready?).

... I still hate the costuming for the Children of the Light. They look like Peter Jackson's Tolkien elves, not like cavalry soldiers.

5 was actually my least favorite so far, just because the editting struck me as very sloppy. The tension of the Perrin and Egwene encounter with the COL kept getting gutted by the slow pacing of the Tar Valon funeral, especially when the wolves arrive; I really thought they should have kept it as one uninterrupted scene. (Also, the music was...I dunno, goofy? Overwrought? It was just Not It for me.) Nynaeve teleporting around was pretty disorienting for me, I thought they needed some establishing shot of her searching the streets or something before arriving at Rand and Mat's inn.

Loial...eh. I thought they should've maybe employed a little camera trickery to make him bigger, maybe? Ogier are supposed to be huge, right? But as a character, he is pretty spot on.

Weellll, I get why you cut Caemlyn and go to Tar Valon. Also, Elayne is coming in Season 2 according to casting and Min IS in this season, so I'm curious to see if she pops up in Ep 6 or if she pops up in 7 or 8 (as there are 3 episodes left, not 2!)

And yeah, I see where you're coming from, but if I look at it from the perspective of someone not knowledgable about the lore or the setting, this one gives me more characterization and a chance to know more about stuff without having some more stuff thrown at us.

@rucket Can anyone tell yet whether everyone - whether they can channel or not - can see weaves, or are they visible to only us as viewers (and, presumably, other channelers of the same gender) ?

Moiraine has already specifically said to Alanna that men's weaves are invisible to them in Ep. 4.

Kinda seemed like the king of Ghealdan reacted to Logain's weaves, I thought, which was kind of odd? But maybe he just felt them.
