Active Games?

Is there a list of active games anywhere?

For games not Ares, there are several places too. I can't remember them all but there is mudconnector and grapevine.

See this topic here: https://musoapbox.net/topic/681/list-of-active-places?_=1638448282597
Unfortunately, there isn't really an actively maintained list somewhere. If you look at mudconnect, it doesn't look like they accept new entries. As for mudstats.com, it gives up-to-date info on login numbers for those games that are registered there. Last additions through the admin there was 321 days ago, though.
I remember back in 2018 there was some talk here on MSB about creating an actively maintained list of active games. I never heard anything came out of it.
For ares games, you can check out https://arescentral.aresmush.com/games, you'll see published games there, along with info about how much frequented they are.

Here are the ones I know about.
https://arescentral.aresmush.com/games
https://game-scry.online
https://grapevine.haus/games
http://games.evennia.com
https://mudlistings.com/game-listings/h
http://www.mushcode.com/MushList
http://mudstats.com/Browse (no new games being listed, apparently)Is this the best way to find active games still?

@silverado
Yes, in that there aren't any other good options. -
I don't play anything but Ares games anymore. @Faraday has ruined me for other types of games. No regrets.
Just wish that AresCentral had more listed. But given that I have two in near-perpetual development I guess I can't complain too loudly there.

So I play on Liberation which is world of darkness and highly recommend it. It is active, welcoming, high energy and oocly very chill and low work.
I am might go back to Shadow Run Denver now that they are 18+ for characters, they have some good rpers there.
I have Arx characters, but I personally struggle on that game for various reasons. It is active game and people's experience there tends to vary quiet a bit. .
And those are the only three games I know anything about.

@kk Yes, despite the thread here which gave me some trepidation. I am having a great time at Liberation. Particularly in the Mage sphere.

Atharia is active, depending on how you define active. If you mean constant RP at any time, we're not that. We're pretty casual and probably more along the lines of table top style.
I can, sometimes, run plots several days in a row or it could be a few weeks in between. A lot of my players have a ton of RL and I don't 'plan' events/scenes. I just nudge them on discord and/or on the game to see who is available for plot things.
That being said, we do have several plots available and as long as the game doesn't suddenly become so huge I can't keep doing it: I'm happy to run personal story plots/scenes for people. Like, if you want a chat with an NPC I control to talk about your day with, I'm game. Or you want to chat with a God I control, I'm happy to pop on. Or, you want to look/create past events for your character. Basically, anything you find of interest that I can do, I'm likely to do. Obviously if Atharia blows up far passed the 10 to 15 players we have, I'll have to rethink how to run plots and stuff. But, atm, I try to gear towards those about and push people to make each other shine over trying to do everything.

@icanbeyourmuse This seems to be a running thing on newer games lately. Creating smaller games with smaller playerbases that are built around 'when people are around', thus giving less desire or need to be logging on every day and being able to give greater focus on its players.
I think this is a great trend for an aging playerbase who're entering into their 30s, 40s, and probably older.

@testament Until a guest logs in, sees only a handful of folks, and thinks that no one plays there. It's a vicious balancing act.
-
@macha Fair, but I also think a lot of these types of games are likely to spread more via word of mouth with the understanding that this is how it likely ran. If you go into it with that expectation, I think something like that could go well.

Not necessarily. There are other metrics of game activity than a gigantic WHO list. If you can see that there are regular logs being posted, for instance, that's a pretty sure sign, as well as like, active forum posts, etc.
I think that the whole 'screen needs to scroll with names' before people take a game seriously mentality is slowly shifting into different realms, but a lot of us old players are just so set in our ways that we don't really think about how it might change for newer generations versus what we're used to seeing in that situation.

That's because OUR WAY IS BEST WAY. Youth today have it so easy with their logs and their wiki pages and their sex games. Back in our day we had to work out if a game was active by DIALING IN and waiting for the text to load line by line...
