E3 2015

So Bethesda is doing their stream here: https://www.youtube.com/e3?feature=int-yo-e3
They just finished showing a significant amount of Doom gameplay, and while I missed much of it, it looks fucking gorgeous in action. And is still calls a weapon "Super Shotgun"

I'm hyped for Hellblade, an action adventure game from the perspective of a Celtic warrior dealing with anxiety and hallucinations following some unrevealed traumatic experience. The developers are talking up the idea that it's going to be a very empathic portrayal of mental illness, while also being an adventure game where the person with the delusions and periods of crippling weakness still gets to be a badass. Oh, and the art they've shown so far is fucking gorgeous.

Xbox is up this morning, followed by EA!
My husband already pre-ordered the Pip Boy thing and I quietly roll my eyes. It will still be better than the FPS game that came with creepy night vision goggles and led to him stalking me through the house in the dark. I was secretly glad when they were stolen off his desk at work.

@Eerie lolololololololol
-
@Eerie With this, you can keep track of him because he'll always have his cell phone attached to his wrist.

This would not actually be much different than now, it will just look a lot sillier for a bit and then become yet another piece of collectable gaming paraphernalia cluttering his office.

This is silly, since you could make the leather band base and I'm sure half a dozen props masters can make the rest.
P.s., make me one please!

"secretly"
"stolen off"
"at work"None of these words mean what @Eerie professes.

More relevant to this topic, I'm not even much of a gamer and I'm super excited about 360 games being backwards compatible for the One. Particularly if I can get the Nike game to work, since it was great but the old 360 Kinect could never see me that well in my living room. The One Kinect is much, much better.

So I've a question for you console gamers out there.
Although it won't be imminently, I want a console (our last one was a brand new Wii when it first launched, which gives you an idea of how long it's been...). So I have to pick between an X-Box and a PS4.
I don't play FPS almost at all. I'd love RPGs, RTSs and smaller simpler games to go with that. Which platform would you suggest and why?
-
RE: Which console to buy
I don't think that's an easy question to answer. I own both and they are both have their upsides and their downsides. If you use it for entertainment at all the XBox One might be a good bet. When I had satellite I had it piped through the XBox One and the voice commands worked really well with it. The ability to just say "XBox On" and have it turn on my satellite, TV, and XBox was really convenient.
That said my primary system is the PS4. I'm not a FPS type person either so Halo is no draw for me. Bloodborne, however, was. It does cheese me off that the new Tomb Raider is an XBox One exclusive but whatever.
My suggestion? Look at the list of exclusive games for each console and decide which list you like better.
-
If you want slightly prettier, PS4. If you want to do more things online with more people, XBoxOne.. Doesn't have to be shooters, I'm talking games like Destiny, Grand Theft Auto 5, ESO.
Oh! Also, if you like Silent Hill, there is a rumour that Xbox is in talks to buy the rights for Silent Hills. But that is just a rumour only so far right now.
-
I love me my Xbox one as both a game console and an entertainment system. Also if it helps they have just announced that they will be adding backwards compatibility to the XB1 greatly increasing the library.
-
Doom OMGOMGOMGOMG. I couldn't even.
It really looks like they took the best elements of all the games and fused them into one and lit it on fire and I want it so bad.
-
Again, I'm not really a gamer, but I am surrounded by them and my personal experience combined with what I've absorbed from being around others very serious about this stuff is this:
Sony leans towards hardware. The PS4 has slightly better specs than the One, though I have also heard that at least for the moment, few games truly/fully exploit this benefit so... eh. Microsoft leans towards software, so the interface for the One is much nicer and it does more stuff. Also if you are at all interested in playing with your friends online, Xbox Live is just... a bazillion miles better than Sony's version. Also, colloquially, I cannot turn on the PS4 without it wanting to update some stuff, which is invariably a 40 minute process that makes whatever I wanted to do initially pointless, so I now have a reactionary loathing of it that means I use it less, which makes it more likely that its going to update when I turn it on, etc, etc.
I do love the Little Big Planet games though, which are PS4 exclusive. I am pretty sure that's like 80% of the reason we have a PS4.
-
The updates are because the PS4 is essentially a gaming computer that you hook to your tv. There's all kinds of drivers and software that need to be kept up to date on a regular basis.
We just got my youngest a Wii U, but I've always been partial to the Xbox. The games I most loved to play on the Playstation I don't know that I can still play on a PS3 or 4.

I hope the other 20% is Last Of us.

It's officially the end of the World.

@Bobotron
Did not see this here, so posted about it in RL Things I Love, which... I guess is sort of on topic. But yes. Yessssssssssssssssss.Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I am giddy like a schoolgirl. I'd been resisting a new gen console despite Kingdom Hearts 3 and FFXV tempting me, but this kind of cinches it. Now I just need to figure out how to convince my wife of the truefax that I might die of sorrow without this.
