Being like "I don't give a shit about other people's kids" is half the reason that anti-vaxxer shit is a thing, so it's hard to sympathize with it.

      sigh

      @Thenomain said in RL Anger:

It's not hard to understand, no matter what you say, even if it's stupid for the stage of evolution we need to be in.

Emphasis mine. You were demeaning Jim with how things can/can't be understood. I found that to be a particularly nearsighted way of looking at it. If you can understand why something is stupid, you can be better arguing against it, even when the parent gets into the knee-jerk yelling of "I Am A Parent How Dare You Tell Me How To Raise My Child".

edit: I cannot imagine the stress of being a parent. People who let themselves be flaming assholes (heh, "flaming assholes") should be pitied and, from the truly patient, helped.

      --

As far as my "human race" statement, I don't disagree that this is scientifically correct, I'm in particular mocking the way that certain people express the sentiment in certain contexts.

Oh yes, certain people in certain context are certainly idiotic. I love the "Colbert Report" attack of the "I Know a Black Guy, Therefore I'm Not Racist" statement. This in particular still needs openly mocked.

In other words, "It's always okay to punch a Nazi" is a perfect example of bringing hate to solve hate. There is a time and a place to bring down the anger.

Incidentally: It's always okay to punch a Nazi.

I refuse to accept what's communicated in your post: That you cannot figure out why someone might be opposed to all forms of discrimination.

I refuse to accept that you are this obtuse. I'd chalk it up to it being the RL Anger thread, but you keep on saying it over and over and over.

There is a difference between marginalizing a subordinate group and the excluding a dominating group in a power relationship. And there's also a difference between a preference and having a problem. For example, I have a fucking problem with breeders bringing their spawn into my movie theatres, and would love it if theatres would permit a NO FUCKING CHILDREN AT A MIDNIGHT PREMIERE OF THIS FUCKING BLOCKBUSTER.

Like, don't bring your fucking kids. Seriously, people, your life is over. And I should know: I have my own. And if you do so on the rare occasion when I can fucking get away from them and enjoy an evening with my partner, I will fucking have a real problem with your ass.

But, yeah, a women's event for a women's charity? Fine with me. Men want to do the same thing? By all means.

“It is better to live doing the things that you like. It is foolish to live within this dream of a world seeing unpleasantness and doing only things that you do not like.” -- Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

Really if I want to get a group of girls/women/females/identifying etc together and pay for an event to make it so it's just women. Good on me. If I want to make a certain time of one showing of the theater a place where women want to feel empowered without whatever issues they are carrying good on me.

If boys/men/males/identifying etc get together and payr for an event to make it just men. Good on them. If they want to make it a certain time of one showing of the theater a place where men feel 'safe' to be men and hell empowered by Wonder woman. Good on them.

It's a showing of a movie. Let people enjoy it how they want to enjoy it. It's not like the only theater, the only screen or the only time the movie is being shown.

As to the peanut butter debate -- there are two sides and I appreciate it. If it is just the free lunch program. Sure. That's at the school's decision for the betterment of all. If your child really will not eat anything but peanut butter and you cannot afford to feed them; I think they should make exclusive understanding on case by case basis. Some kids also need the protein and refuse to eat meat, etc. They just have to understand they cannot share their sandwiches or get it on things, etc. It may be too much work to the child and eating may change. It is hard to be a parent and there are times that no matter what you try to force on your child or not -- the willpower of the child sometimes wins.

As to the debate about debates.... let's just all get along?

Children in theaters make me cringe --- I'm a breeder.

Hell it's not like men's groups don't exist. Freaking men's only groups have existed since the dawn of freaking society, and still do, for various reasons. Not all of those reasons are even bad. I have seen men's groups that exist for perfectly justifiable reasons that have nothing to do with discrimination against women. It's actually possible to make an exclusive group for reasons that aren't "I hate all the people who aren't in this group".

For example, I know that the Community College of Philadelphia has this group, I forget what it's called, but it's like a group for black males. It exists because black men have statistically insanely high dropout rates, moreso than pretty much any demographic, even black women (black women actually have super fucking high graduation rates).

So the entire purpose of the group is so that these black male students can support each other against the statistical odds that say they won't graduate, even if it's stuff like home life, personal problems, or lack of money for bus fare and things like that. Basically the group is there to counter anything that would commonly cause black males to drop out of school. (This school has many groups, fyi, this is just one of them)

Punching a nazi = bringing hate to solve hate.

Because punching a nazi is not equivalent to hate, it's refusing to tolerate bigotry or the abuse they would inflict if they had the opportunity.

It's actually bringing violence to solve hate. You can punch a Nazi without hating Nazis. Much like exterminators don't hate the vermin they kill.

Yeah. I absolutely hate bigotry and abuse, and choose to accept the use of violence to remove the source of that hatred.

No, I'm not being sarcastic, nor ironic, nor pedantic. I'm pointing out the imperfection of humanity and our ability to live with our own dichotomy. While I personally believe it's logical and acceptable to hate hatred, I'm more concerned that people are concerned for people at large and neither do too little for it, nor too much by trying to protect all views and ideologies as having the same moral weight.

Considering how much CNN has a hate-on for Trump, I'm not saying this at all. CNN has never successfully pushed the Politically Correct line even if they seem like they want to.

@Thenomain But for a long time CNN has given a voice to absolute nonsense, like taking climate change deniers seriously enough to give them a platform to talk about that nonsense.

They're also dicks with the way they conduct themselves, but that's just my personal experience from when one of those assholes interviewed me (I didn't really have any interest in telling the guy exactly what he was telling me I should say, no thanks).

I don't agree with violence against hate. That's just my opinion though. I'm pretty optimistic and secretly all about loving everyone. Okay, maybe not secretly. I also don't really watch CNN.

This might be why I'm old and single.

Preference: I do not find black people attractive.
Opinion: I do not like black people.
Hate: I do not like black people and think they should all be killed.

                                Violence against hate? Definite yes.

Maybe our compulsion to dehumanize anyone we find threatening/distasteful/disagreeable and declare them garbage is part of what got us into the current mess we are in.

Any time you punch someone because of 'what they are', be they black, male, white, gay, disabled, a veteran or a Nazi - that's a hate crime.

So punching a Nazi for no reason other than that they are a Nazi and are doing Nazi things = bringing hate to solve hate (punching someone doesn't solve anything it just makes you feel better, unless you're actually punching them to death, which is another thing entirely)

Punching a Nazi because they stole your parking space is bringing violence to solve rudeness, though again, YMMV on the effectiveness of punching anyone for results.

@Pandora That's a false equivalence. Black, male, white, gay, disabled people aren't the way they are because they chose to be. And 'veteran' is such a broad category that, yes, a veteran could well be a Nazi, so the category is irrelevant.

I don't care what someone is. I care about what they do. If you're a person that sits around minding their own business, I don't care that you're a racist.

If you are inciting the deaths of actual people because of your own bigotry, I'm gonna punch you.
