I didn't say anything at all about the anti-choice crowd. My critique of the anti-life crowd is fucking mild compared to my critique of the anti-choice crowd. (In the end I support the anti-life crowd, albeit holding my nose, while I would kick the anti-choice crowd in the collective 'nads if I could.)

Is there hypocrisy on both sides, yeah. But I think you got a switch reversed there. Most 'anti-life" people, myself included, work constantly to up the amount of support families receive so that every woman has a few legitimate choices in front of her, either in becoming pregnant in the first place, or in what they decide to do after.

Does this support extend to actually offering, say, a single mother a place to stay while raising the child? Financial support? ANYTHING at all that mitigates their immediate plight? (Hint: I've been involved in the scene and the answer was largely a huge honking "NO!!" with occasional glorious exceptions.)

Like I said, in the end I support the anti-life crowd, but I think they're largely disingenuous hypocrites. Just less harmful as hypocrites than the anti-choice crowd. Basically the lesser of two evils.

Yeah, actually. I have been an emergency foster parent to pregnant teens or parenting teens. It's not the easiest thing in the world. I would never suggest that everyone do it, or adopt for that matter. Most people can't. So yeah. I do walk the walk, and support many nonprofits that do it--but it's not enough. Housing issues are very horrible. I have also been a volunteer at those organizations. I am a member of the local buy nothing group and have offered assistance directly to mothers and families. I have contributed to financial support and driving to prenatal appointments of a woman who was pregnant in one of the local homeless encampments. My very liberal UU church does a crapload of stuff like that.

Beyond pregnancy, which is only a very small time period after all, I've also helped get a local family community kitchen program off the ground that's still running 5 years later. I contribute financially and in kind to a local shelter/program for homeless lgbt teens. While right now I have to concentrate mainly on my own family due to the young age of my youngest, once he's in school I'd like to start volunteering with family support orgs again. I have volunteered with the stateside equivalent of remote area medical teams.

I have the training, temperament, and skills to do this. I do not begrudge people who don't. But yeah. I put my time, treasure, and tears into this. Considering that I spent most of my teens protesting abortion clinics and being part of an extremely gross sect of a religion, I have a lot of atone for and blood and suffering on my hands to make up for.

What's "anti-life" mean for you?

I think in context, it means you support a woman's right to an abortion, but I don't see how or why that's "anti-life."

And neither does the U.S. Supreme Court, which does not vest a "right to exist" in a fetus.

To be clear: there is a state's interest in protecting the potential for life and a woman's right in governing her body. Those are the two competing interests in the abortion debate. And the former supersedes the other where the fetus is viable.

But the fetus does not actually have a right to live until it is born, at which point it is a baby.

This distinction is important. Very important.

Unfortunately most anti-life advocates do not do this. Most of them are fine with the chanting and the spreading of memes on social media, but when it comes to icky, icky work (or even worse SPENDING MONEY!) they vanish like leaves in a hurricane.

You know what also amuses me? The same people who scream about 6 week embryos having the same rights people outside the womb tend to also scream about real live babies born in the US not 'counting' as citizens. I find this the best of all possible fuck-yous to the personhood idiocy. (Srsly, I fucking love my state.)

Which is, frankly, the beginning and end of all I'm going to say on this one. I was stuck as a mod on an abortion debate forum for many years on livejournal, pit o' drahmah, for too many years to not have liberally applied the shiny new ignore feature to the testicle-bearers trying to stir shit on this particular topic with hyperbole and nonsense, playing childish provocateurs, because spending the time to lay out why it's hyperbole and nonsense, or even why this shit is childish and counterproductive, would be a complete waste of that time, no matter how tempting it is.

If you've been a great roleplaying partner I'll remember you years later, no problem. Yet there are people I've ran in who I vaguely recall being disappointing by but not why or really, any of the specifics involved any longer.

I'm also prone to give second chances given enough time because...well, people change and it's just online stuff. Maybe I interacted with them during a bad phase the first time around, or they were caught up in drama or... whatever. So in that way if I get a bad turn with them again fine, it's my fault... but eh, so what.

Well, I went to Ecuador on the news that my mother wasn't doing too well. She passed away on the 21st at 8 pm on the dot. I've lost my mother and my aunt in a space of two months.

She was pretty much holding on until I got there. Three days after I arrived she became non-responsive and basically withered away in the blink of an eye.

Fuck this year. Seriously, fuck it hard.
