But: finding out that a person you know on a game is actually someone you've known for like -- ten years. You just didn't realize it was them. And then you laugh about it a lot.
@roz Yeah, I remember when @surreality had a light bulb moment and made a connection about us having played before. I had no clue until she did.
@arkandel We are those nerds that love RP so much we never TSed on Shang. That's always gonna stand out! (Seriously, I should have guessed much sooner for name reasons, I mean, jeez, I felt dumb I didn't figure it out for yeeeears.)

I had this happen once purely by accident, I was on two scenes on two different games, both unknowingly with alts of the same person. A pretty violent t-storm started (Storm would end up taking down the tree I had in my front yard the time) so I ooc'd in one place what was going on and that if I went silent for an extended period it could be because I lost internet. To save time I copy pasted it to the second window. The other person OOC'd laughing and i was confused they were all like I am both these folks. We talked a bit turns out we had been RPing together for quite some time on various PCs in various places, though since neither of us tended to talk much OOC we never realized it.
That was five years ago and we still RP a lot to this day just that now we know who we are.
I wanna take a moment to show some love to supportive staff. Story time!
(TL;DR: Staff let me play what I wanted not only with full support but with assistance and even a touch of enthusiasm.)
Once upon a time, in the days before The Reach opened, Goldfish was a budding staffer. Goldie mentioned on the staff channel that they had a concept for a Hunter. A wheelchair using disabled vet in Task Force: Valkyrie. Oh, how excited Goldie was for their concept! It would be a challenge, sure, but they really loved their idea. It was barebones at the time but it was to be their first PC in the game and their fourth or fifth ever. Also, the first Hunter ever for Goldie was still new to World of Darkness and roleplaying in general. Poor, sweet, naive little Goldfish.
Enter Big Mean Hunter Staffer (Whose name is lost to the annals of time. Just as well. He was eventually fired.)
"No!" said BMHS. "Task Force Valkyrie would never recruit a guy in a wheelchair! Even if he is a skilled veteran of the military!" He all but said it was terrible and stupid. I'm pretty sure there was a "LOL" in there. Goldie tucked their fins and swam away, saddened not only by the nasty ableism but also the shooting down of their precious concept. One of their first concepts ever for, as stated before, Goldie was still new to the community. The concept went on the shelf, occasionally being picked up for use of various elements but never used in total. (TR folks might recall Travis and William. They both had elements)
Fast forward to 2018. Reno has moved to a new server and is under new management. Again, Goldfish is a staffer. They are older now. Wiser. They understand the systems and the fluff better than before. And again, Goldie is chatting with their fellow staff. Goldie looks to their concept shelf and sees their old disabled vet in TFV. Goldie remembers the previous reaction but forges ahead, dusting it off and putting it out for suggestion.
And they liked it! Staff helped Goldie to refine the concept, make it fit into theme, and offered ideas to further it. They nurtured Goldie and out of it came Nick: Disabled former marine turned Alex Jones for the paranormal. (ADAMSKI operative. He spreads lies on Youtube.) He's involved in plot and Goldie is totally engaged with him as a character.
Today, Goldie is the happiest fish in the bowl because of good, open minded, supportive and creative staff. It is a lot easier to just say No. It's harder to say Yes, and...
So this too long post is dedicated to all of you Staffers and Storytellers out there who support, boost, and nurture your players and their creativity. Folks like you all are the backbone of this community and I am endlessly appreciative of it.

I gotta say I like the concept. One of the big plus sides to NWoD Hunter is that there are a lot of ways to help the vigil rather than just being all rar kill monkey.

Look, I will fully admit I can be one of those Staffers who will sometimes see an app and gripe and go 'ugh are you fucking kidding me' because it is some really stupid annoying ass trope or because I am really worried a person is painting themselves into a 'gonna have a hard af time finding RP' corner.
but
I am also one of those staffers who really loves to see interesting concepts out there and wants people to have fun. Nick is a great idea and I fully believe TFV likes to use their assets. ADAMSKI is not commonly used on MUs because they aren't the kicking-in-doors and shotguns-in-faces wing of TFV, but... everybody needs their guy in the chair. And Nick? Nick makes the perfect guy in the chair.
And this is totally what you have a retainer for, when it comes to everything else. TFV has needs for everything. They're not just boots with guns (that's Union). They're an entirely backed and funded force across the world. That's why they're a conspiracy, not a compact.
I love Nick. Nick is great. And your bbposts with Nick are so awesome to see. They're one of the most fun ways to get plot-y rumor stuff out there I've seen.

This is cool but the only concerning thing to me is Staffer to Staffer support. Its a great thing... Don't forget to support the players though. From what I've seen so far I've not been impressed with much of the support from staff on that game. This post will hopefully prove me way wrong from the cries of the masses telling me I've got it wrong.

Goldfish didn't get special treatment just for being Staff, I promise.
I gave the go ahead on someone apping a mute Net0 Hunter last night, for example. My only concern expressed was it may limit their RP, but if they feel confident in playing it, they can go on ahead.
Seriously, if you've got an interesting idea (I know VASCU draws a lot since they allow M+), pitch it. I'm game.

At least in my opinion given that in case #1, I was a fellow staffer and was shut down brutally. (It felt brutal at the time.) It could have very well happened again, even though I was on staff. I am sure they will be judging you, but it sounds like they will also be supportive and let you play the rainbow haired drek which in my personal opinion of things from someone unconnected to the game the best option.

Reconnecting with a long lost RP friend and letting the past die.
When you make a joke about running a game and set some impossible requirement before you'll run it then someone goes above and beyond the call of duty to do everything they can to make that happen and it just completely blows you away how awesome some people can be.

I’m that second raccoon, grudgingly there because I think there’s food. Later I will probably complain to the person holding the bubble gun and be mocked in public for it.
Still, I love this hobby and I’m always glad when people find things to love about it.
