MU Things I Love

I always enjoy the ancient looking PBs people used to (and still do on occasion) slap on late 30someting and 40 something PC or NPCs.
Maybe it's just my life experience talking (and just being around a lot of different people at different ages outside of my cohort) but I find that I am more appreciative of a variety of ages as far as storytelling depth. And it tends to be in the hands of the player too. Some people play their middle aged/elder PCs very shallowly or by stereotype. And I've seen many young PCs done well (though admittedly the Doogie Houser types still make my eye twitch, but so do the old dried up hag at 40 PCs!)
Having played mostly on the fringes of late (young PCs or elderly PCs), it can be a really interesting experience to see players not willing to give either a chance. It can feel like a bummer, but I think it's rarely personal so I try to not take the kind of awkward OOC dismissal personally.

I've always preferred older characters simply because it always felt like mushes were always inundated with teen or 20 somethings. Also, my character would be less likely to be hit on, which is something I always preferred.
I made it point to app in late 30s, early 40s. Only to realize that I'm turning 40 this year and I had a minor personality crisis over it, with the realization that I'm now playing characters the same age as myself. And it's mildly horrifying.

@testament Time to break out the 50 somethings! Though honestly, one of my favorite PCs for their rich background that made her a delight to play was one I made for Arx that was in her late 60s (the age on cg maxes out at 65 but obvs you can be older). I wish I'd had more time with her (and sometimes think about bringing her back) just because it was nice to see people relax OOCly around that play. It did not have to be fraught with horndogging. Now that I've ventured into playing younger PCs mixed in, since our community has aged RL, I'm finding they also don't get hit on either in an older-skewed setting, which can be pretty nice to have people be more judicious about rushing that sort of play. Judging from logs the bedhopping/chasing here and there seems to center on whatever the dominant age is (even if it's 30s). Which while annoying if one doesn't want to be approached for romantic RP, is also somewhat cheering as well. It's not like only teens and 20somethings have sex, so it's nice to see some diversity in romantic rp too.

Getting invited to do something absolutely crazy - and yet logical within the context of the plot - something that might get my character killed, but it would be absolutely fine. I love it when crazy ideas get to be made reality by staff.
Additionally, speaking with someone about plot elements that encourages THEM to pitch another crazy idea! Makes me feel all warm inside.

Finding an underused played-by you just know you're gonna use one day.
No character for them yet, but already excited for when you eventually end up with a perfect fit.

Games full of people that give you so much joy, creativity, and imagination that it's heartbreaking to bring things to an end.
Sometimes this hobby gives us a whole lot of awesome. It's a strange joy to close wishing there was more. Keep being amazing, guys.

When players really lean in to the prompts you give them and makes the scene a million times better than expected
-
When you get on a game and the staff exceeds your wildest expectations for being fair but protecting their players. chef's kiss

Just wanted to throw a thanks to @L-B-Heuschkel for being cool. The MUSH world is full of weird gray areas, and a concern I brought to them is definitely in the gray. I appreciate the simple, straightforward solution (and not calling me a kooky nutter when I'm being one).

@krmbm Allow me to toss the kudo on to the players who were cool with a simple solution to a situation that's honestly a little weird with the whole 'who actually owns intellectual property' situation. An argument not worth wasting time on was avoided, this is a good thing.

When awesome people bridge the gap between your anxiety and what you want to do.
I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. I hope someday I can give back.

You guys and your buy-in.

The lil bit of magic that happens when someone's style meshes so well with your own that you're both just elevating each other to a whole other level every time you get to share a scene. Separate you're OK. Together? Whoa, I actually didn't know I could write like this. Or that they could!
I've been a little insular lately on the game I play for anxiety reasons; just haven't been up to braving big social scenes. But there's one person I've had an abandoned plot thread with for so long, at this point, that the prospect of finally getting around to following up on it has somehow managed to turn into just another daunting chore I've been dreading. Well, today I finally did it, and what the hell was I so afraid of, damn?
Related MU* thing I love: chill people being chill about RL obligations. Sometimes I stress myself out trying to write fast for people, but the person I had this scene with today just let me cruise through a mutually busy day. Sometimes one/two poses per hour peppered throughout the day with regular intervals and not having to rush is actually just fine by me.

I don't know what's happened but after 20-odd years of Mu*ing I feel like I have finally gotten in my groove. I've got a cool character that I enjoy playing. Plenty of motivated players that are cool OOC and IC, plenty of players that if something doesn't work for them, are willing to talk until we find something that does work for everyone. It's reminding me what's so fun about this hobby.

When you help a confused newbie get settled into a game, and then a few weeks later see them helping a different confused newbie get settled in, resolving the exact same obstacle you helped them past.
I'm like a proud mama.

Tfw when people start realizing how great your friend is that you dragged to a game.
YES PLAY WITH THEM I AM INDIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR JOY AND ALL YOUR FUN IS INDIRECTLY MY FUN
