RE: WoD MUSH Comparison?
@Sunny said:
There's a splinter game off of TR called Safe Haven Harbor, but it's invite only and I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't already invested in it. I stress that this is not 'unofficial' or 'official' -- the people involved in creating it had every right to the material, whether or not The Reach folks agree with that. None of it was the Reach's stuff to begin with, and afaik the actual creator of TR is okay with SHH being out there.
The actual creator of TR gave his blessing for SHH to be made, and was also briefly involved with helping things get going.
SHH is WoD (2.0/GMC as soon as those things come out,), sphere-wise we have Werewolf (2.0), Mage, Changeling, Immortal and M+. It is a "post-apocalyptic" world that story-wise splinters from TR's End of the World where the EotW did happen and this game-setting is what resulted. It is a smaller game, it has a smaller staff-group, a lot of the plot is staff run, it began as a by-invitation-only game. The game was never intended as an official or unofficial replacement for TR, it's basically an alternate reality. It's no longer strictly by-invitation but we're also not rushing towards dropping ads everywhere, a lot of work is going into world-building with setting getting fleshed out because there really isn't a "real world" reference to be made for everything like in a standard world of darkness game. We utilize stuff from the WoD: Mirrors book. Things are fairly scheduled-active, there isn't a lot of impromptu RP except what players arrange between themselves, but the majority of the players are people with fairly busy RLs. It's probably not a game for everyone, I'm happy with the smaller player base (it means I can give more direct attention the players who are there from a staff end, so a little bit it runs somewhat like an online TT).

RE: RL Anger
@Silver It does happen, certainly - it used to be the way that things were done from what I understand, about a decade ago. It's not been the way it was done at all since the new director came in.

RE: RL Anger
RL Peeve, I suppose... but I marvel at the complete and utter inability of the average person to apparently write a proper resume and cover letter in order to submit them for a job.
Not a situation of "Can I submit an application?", but for a professional position that specifically wants to see the resume/cover letter written to know in this case that the person is skilled in that area on the chance that it might be arranged for them to begin offering classes about this to high school students in our community. (Because apparently while it is important to the education system in the US to get good "test scores" and qualify for money, it is less important to teach students how to fill out paperwork for a continued education, financial paperwork or writing a resume, etc.) It's both depressing and mind boggling, particularly when the resumes submitted are coming from retired teachers.
Mind you, it's also something of a peeve people who hear there is a job opening and rather than follow the steps requested, they send an email to the director, implying they should just be handed the job based upon who they know in the community.
An unrelated aside? If you are a person who was downsized out of their job 4 months ago and you have 2 months of your unemployment left and there is a job opening that you are qualified for, and due to your age & education that you have you are unlikely to find any other job like that in the place where you are living - I don't understand why you would blow off turning in a resume for a job with stability in favor of just staying on your unemployment which is going to run out in 2 months, because you make slightly more money on unemployment than you would at this position.
Things that make me bang my head on my desk, position-hiring edition.

RE: SHH DOWN!
SHH is no longer down, to update. The event rescheduling is still a thing though.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
People who are taking care of other people's children, who have no business taking care of children... OMFG.
When you are watching 6 kids, and you are incapable of actually controlling/managing the kids yourself, and you are using the 2 oldest children in your charge to dish out the discipline, I suppose it really shouldn't surprise me that you think it would be totally okay to have one of those kids hold down a 5 yr old boy while the other one spanks him in the middle of a public library. And if you want to call me names to those kids after I tell you that it's inappropriate to do that, and that I will get the director to speak to her about appropriate library conduct, you go right ahead.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
I'm generally a pretty cynical, particularly when dealing with people who come off as WAY too nice, good, generous and take just a few too many pains to look perfect. I always have a nagging doubt which I try hard to keep in check, most of the time something shows to make my suspicions abate and not be founded.
Every now and then though? I run across someone who is just as bad as I worry. And while a small part of me wants to leap up and say "I TOLD YOU!", the reality is I just feel bad for the people who were actually manipulated by the whole con. I hate fakes.

RE: Map Maker, Map Maker, make me a map...
Wanted to toss a quick thank you to everyone who sent suggestions to me on this. I was able to get the maps made that I needed between google earth and some map images that I was able to edit to fit what I was needing. I appreciate the input!

RE: Map Maker, Map Maker, make me a map...
I'm sure it's just fine! Nothing to see there!

RE: Map Maker, Map Maker, make me a map...
@HelloRaptor Sure! Long as they don't have to map it!

Yes, this is your fault. I hope you're pleased with yourself! <j/k... mostly.>

To be clear, your asking about creating new geography, not mapping an existing place (MU), yeah?
The intention is to remap existing geography in-so-far as it's a change up to a real world map. And while it's intended to use for a MU, I'm trying to make an image that will be used on a wiki as the world map to give a rough idea of how what is familiar has been changed & what there is to work with now.
Thank you for the feedback, everyone really.

Seriously, pen and paper, then take it to the library to scan it.
Maybe @2mspris doesn't have access to a library, you insensitive clod.
Well, the librarian does have access to a library... she was just looking for something that would be a little easier than that. (And less time consuming.) I may just have to suck it up.

Map Maker, Map Maker, make me a map...
Can anyone recommend to me a good (but easy) map making site? Or is anyone willing and able to help me with a project to make a post-apocalyptic Earth map? My skill with such things is coming seriously short of what I would like and as I continue to frustrate myself futzing around with this - I figure that it couldn't hurt to ask.

It's snowing here, too, only instead of snow it's white, fluffy plant bits.
I'd rather have the snow/ice bits. At least it doesn't cause sneezing fits and make my eyes swell shut.

@ThatOneDude With frequency. There are a few Amish women locally who are using the computers to manage finances or to take college classes. There are a few men who have used them for the purpose of advertising one craft or skill or another they have for work, to deal with government stuff they are request to do and for different financing/budgeting things as well. And then there are a few Amish men who have been caught trying to use it to find themselves mail order brides or attempt to look at porn. (In the library, which we have blocks again, so then begins the awkward "I'm trying to look at family pictures but the computer won't bring them up and I wondered if there was something wrong with it.") They don't have mad computer skills, but it's like phones that they are allowed to use as long as it's not in their house. There are a lot of them that carry disposable cell phones around, and my understanding is that they are suppose to leave them in an outbuilding and not take them in the house when they return home. Though the frequency of how many get to do that may have changed in the last couple of years, given that there was cyber sexting/harassment case not long ago locally where the suspect was a young Amish man. (Txting pictures of his junk to a 12 yr old girl he fancied.)

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Going into the season where I REALLY wish that I could ask people to leave the library if they haven't had a bath in the last week. Particularly since we have a lot of Amish patrons. I get it, it's planting season & farming is sweaty work but when you've done hours of field work, over several days, and come into the library to use the computers in a public space for whatever reason - if you smell so strongly that it forces other people to leave, or at least put a significant distance between themselves and you... Just no.

RE: Good TV
I'm way more fond of Daredevil & Agent Carter than Flash and Arrow. Though I've heard good things about Gotham, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it yet.
