    • RE: RL things I love

      @auspice I also have Batman knickers. They are from Target. So there's a pretty solid chance that on any cold day, I'm sitting in my finance office in my pricey Talbots sweater and my trousers from the stodgy old lady store and..... the Bat signal on my butt. Or the Millenium Falcon. Or Wonder Woman. Or Muppets. It's ridiculous and childish and it makes me laugh. And they never match my bra, and I don't care. Because as I once told the lady in my local Sephora "I'm convinced that women who can do winged eyeliner in one go are like women whose bra and panties match without several days of careful laundry planning. They're not like regular women. They're some kind of witch."

      ETA: Speaking of which. HerRoom.com for bras. No store, like, EVER lets you use coupons on the good plus sized bra brands, like Wacoal or Natori or Chantelle. But! If you don't care what color they are, you can filter down to what's on sale or discontinued clearance. And their filter also lets you shop by characteristics like lined/unlined, J-hook closures, style, etc. It's like the Amazon warehouse of boob-holders. Though I also once got an $80 Chantelle bra on Amazon for $21 because apparently no one likes pastel yellow?

      @insomniac7809 said in Critters!:

      @auspice @Aria has discouraged me from letting Pavel be ShoulderCat, because her shoulders (being considerably less broad) don't keep him up as well, and when he starts to slide his claws come out for traction. We compromise when I carry him around like a baby.

      To be fair, it's not that I mind him being on my shoulders if he settles in. It's that he launches himself onto them from several feet away, then discovers he doesn't have enough space to land, and then rips my shoulders and my back open. Once he did this from the front while I had my hands full of very breakable objects and I ended up with nine pounds of cat dangling from claws he sank into my lip until I was able to bend low enough for his back paws to hit the ground and him to stop panicking. Pasha is an adorable BabyCat. Pasha is also a rampaging asshole.

      @aerianyx I have no defense. I just do this to our cats every few years, even though they hate it. The year I put a Santa hat and a beard on Pasha, he made this yowling sound I've never heard before or since. He tolerated the Yoda ears hat only slightly better.

      But Nikolai. Bless poor little Nikolai. Even with his ears pressed flat against his fur and a giant deer-shaped snood on his head, he was still purring at us. Completely freaked out, but also purring.

      The "cold" that I have had since last Wednesday got so bad today that my teeth started to ache every time I sniffled. So I went to urgent care.

      Turns out, I have a sinus infection!

      Treating you well?

      I used them today! With the exception of finding it a bit uncomfortable to wear them and my computer glasses together for very long, I was quite pleased.

      For some reason, I thought that third season of Last Kingdom dropped on Netflix today.

      No. It drops next Monday.

      I am unreasonably upset by this. Like, might actually start crying upset, despite being keenly aware that I am being unreasonable. I think this is the point of 'sick + sinus meds' where the only smart thing to do is put my toddler-tantrum ass down for a nap. But I can't.

      Why did I say I was going to work from home today? 😞 😞 😞

      These boots.

      Those are sexy af.
      But so expensive.
      And it's 80F today so I clearly don't need winter boots.

      I just need new boot-boots.

      The high today is 30F. It was 19F when I left for work and it's already snowed this year.

      The last time I bought snow boots was when I lived in Sweden in 2005. I think it's time.

      (Also, yeah. Expensive AF. Fortunately if they carry something like them at his store, he'll get a discount.)

      @Auspice

      I do not own this palette, but I do own some of Nyx's "Avant <Whatever>" palettes, and the purple version of their "Love in Paris".

      Perfect Filter in Olive You

      It's well reviewed, has a pair of decent looking shimmery olive-ish greens in it, and some other nice neutral colors for a look that won't read like my "I'm wearing green with green and some other green and if you think I look like a clown you can get fucked because I like this" look. Bonus? Nyx is having a 30% off everything on their site sale this weekend. I'm stocking up on my daily use products like I did with my hair stuff at BOGO prices from Ulta.

      The Interrupters "She's Kerosene"

      It's like the ska-punk from the late 90s popped up two decades later to look at your thirty-something ass and ask when you decided to start taking life so seriously and really, I'm sort of fine with that.

      @tinuviel Yeeeah, we don't really have that. Instead, we have "Baby, It's Cold Outside" or, as I like to call it, "the holiday date rape song" with its 57 cover versions. They range from "kind of squinting at this" to "it's roofies, honey, he put roofies in your drink" and everyone pretends this is fine. It's weird and very uncomfortable, and the gender swapped version wasn't cute. It was also creepy af.

      @paris Sadly, the closest one to me is in Edison, NJ -- not far from where I grew up, about two hours away from where I live. >.<

      We do have Aldi, though, and Aldi is awesome when I have the patience to wait in their absurdly long lines.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

      @auspice I actually really, really liked when I lived in an area with a grocery chain where the standard procedure was "load everyone's groceries into their car, period". The only exceptions were when they got super, super busy and then would prioritize the elderly, pregnant women, anyone who was obviously injured or disabled, and people who flat-out asked over, like..... my able-bodied college-age self, which was perfectly reasonable.

      Most of those jobs were, in fact, those mythical entry-level minimum wage jobs held almost exclusively by teenagers looking to earn money and, frankly, I think it taught a lot of those kids empathy given that a big part of their job was gauging who needed help, when, and how much help they needed. And no one who needed help ever had to be embarrassed about it, because it didn't draw extra attention and you weren't being 'difficult' as a customer. It was just the standard. Everyone who shopped at Marsh's had their groceries loaded in their car for them.

    • RE: The Makeup Thread

      @auspice It does take a while. Like, just when you look back at the "5-7 days later" on the box and decide that this is bullshit and is never going to work, your feet suddenly begin peeling like the worst sunburn you've ever had x100, leaving you astounded at just how much skin you actually have.

      Personally, I do this in the winter because I am more likely to be wearing shoes that cover my entire foot, thus preventing my co-workers from thinking I have some sort of horrifying medical condition. About a week after that, every bit of callous you've had has vanished into the ether.

      Magic! By which I mean alpha-hydroxy acids.
