No Demon no Beast. No women no kids. But we will have Stigmatics. In fact we will have three flavors of them.
I don't know much about Beast, but what's the reasoning for that?

The guy lived a kickass life, had a hell of a career, and possessed the voice of a higher-level being.
@ixokai said in The trappings of posing:
I don't mind metaposing as long as it is treated as something that can be read-- body language, tone, intuition-- or if its directed entirely at oneself. I do not want to see 'Jane smiles warmly to Bob, even though she thinks he's a jackass for showing up'.
How about "Jane smiles warmly to Bob. That's something she never does, but the Prince's downfall made her day, not that she'd ever admit it to anyone of course."
It gives you some information Jane wouldn't choose to share and which is difficult to guess from her body language alone unless the player makes it really overt later in the RP, but it also provides some context about what's going on in her head.
I'm not saying there's no other way to convey the same information if the player is crafty, but I find insights like that welcome in a scene if they don't get used too much to set the narrative, since they can't be responded to directly.
@faraday I cleaned up this thread. The stuff I took out should be visible again in a hogpit near you soon.
@auspice It's just that I try to not get involved since it's none of my business what other people eat or how/if they work out. On top of that it takes wanting to do it in the first place, which is usually the cultivation of a lot of other stuff getting them there. I don't know how to get someone to that mental place, and since I'm not a professional... you get what you pay for if you ask me.
The least you can do is not debate it a week afterwards... if I had the cure for obesity in seven days or less I'd be bottling it up instead of working for a living.
I thought it'd be fun to have a thread about concepts of both characters and plots that others could use.
What this thread is not for is tooting our own horn; no humblebragging about our amazing success with a character please, or posting plots which are so niche they could have only been used at that one game by ourselves.
The idea here is to give ideas for other people to use. Feel free to include others' ideas as long as you credit them (which is what I'm about to do).
So, to kick things off! This is a list of plots Eric Kripke - the creator of the TV show Supernatural - tweeted about not getting a chance to use. Maybe it can be your next PrP!
Let's see your own!

Yes, how do you kill that which is already dead?

I want Rothfuss to write more, though.
At this point I don't know what will happen first - George Martin's next ASoIaF book gets published, Doors of Stone does, or the thermodynamic death of the universe puts an end to all things.
Please remember this is a mildly constructive zone so when you flame me, flame me mildly.
So I had this question, it might be a controversial topic, but I wanted some opinions on it: How do you view twinking in your MU*? I'm referring to the process of maximizing a character's efficiency through picking mechanically optimal stats, items, etc for them.
See, I am an unapologetic twink. When I make my characters I've no issues admitting I'm one of those people who carefully pick mechanics for their +sheet; I plan out my XP well in advance in a spreadsheet, I make sure to prioritize each spend, etc. It's just how I was used to playing RPGs. When I don't know a system well enough I find someone like HelloRaptor (he knows ALL systems) who does and pick their brains dry.
Now, I am not shameless about it, there are lines I won't cross. For example if I play someone who's good at lying I'll buy the manipulation and subterfuge attributes up even if I never +roll social dice. However if I know the quarterstaff-fighting style (or whatever) in the book is crap I'll simply not make quarterstaves part of my PC's combat routine in the first place. Or I won't buy a line of powers which doesn't get used since it's filed in a box labeled 'wasted XP' in my head. My characters tend to have very little fluff in their +sheets.
I fully realize not everyone does things that way - some people even dislike the idea of respecs in general or who'd never consider planning their spends in advance and I can see where they are coming from.
So what's your opinion on twinking? Assume we're discussing RP MU* here obviously, if you're playing Skyrim or whatever twinking is pretty much expected.
@Ganymede said in New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback:
Well, this isn't a DC/Marvel game; it's a game of OCs, last time I checked.
Fair enough in that case.
As you know, there are several Robins. Dick Grayson became Nightwing. Jason Todd died, and then was resurrected as the Red Hood. And so on.
Absolutely. And I would prefer to play with one of them than Roger Smith, the OC Robin that guy just rolled yesterday. If I played on a canonical universe I'd want the history that comes with legacy characters and years worth of background in stories.
@kanye-qwest I'm ambivalent about Sanderson.
On one hand I like his books, and The Way Of Kings is one of my all-time favorites. It's also really amazing from a logistical point of view how goddamn reliable the guy is - he's writing like a machine at the same level, and keeps churning out new novels right on schedule.
On the other hand I find his works are increasingly ... well, teen-friendly. Maybe it's because a lot of his novels have specifically been aimed at that demographic but I still wish he'd write for adults as well.
Another piece of advice: Try to either come up with them yourself so the scope of the powers is thematic, or filter very carefully what others submit to you.
I've seen custom Bloodlines, Legacies etc from time to time be quite broken in terms of powers because they're tailored to cover (and often, overcompensate) for weaknesses intended to be there. That's a thing across the board for GMC though, and players will happily round up such vulnerabilities or strive to create optimal builds - which I'm not saying is a bad thing, but you need to know in advance if, and how much, you are prepared to support.

but did they make Troy or just buy the rights to it?
I'm pretty sure the Illiad's in the public domain by now.
@miss-demeanor said in Sci Fi/Opera Originality:
And God forbid you do a game where people can either inhabit planets, space stations, or ships. Now you have to flesh out all three. And I cannot stress enough how important fleshing out ships are for a sci-fi game.
Not to say fleshing these things out isn't a big project, because it is, but that's the least of your worries if you're doing that to your game.
The real issue is now you need to populate all three since, unless you're confident in your ability to attract a sizable playerbase, then splitting it up will just make RP that much harder. And what's the payoff?
It makes way more sense to allow people to sandbox being all over the place in temporary rooms or whatever but keeping your players in one easily reached geographical (*) location as much as possible.
(*) Cosmological?
Is telenuke a thing for M&M?
I don't remember this being frowned upon so much. Plato and other philosophers talked about it at some length, especially as it pertained to the original idea of soulmates and the three genders.
It definitely depends on who you read. Also different cities disparaged each other for propaganda purposes, Corinth was supposed to be the most liberal city of antiquity, etc.
The part I was referring to is touched upon briefly here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_ancient_Greece#Love_between_adult_men .
Anyway, I'll stop going off topic before someone sics the moderators on me.
@wildbaboons I'd still talk the shit out of a WoT game well before it opened.
In a world that seems to admire John Macclain types who kill the bad guys on sight, I'm proud of Toronto for making a hero out of the cop who didn't shoot the mass murderer even though he could, and would have suffered no consequences for it, and even after he was repeatedly provoked into doing so.
Local stores have been inviting police in to give them free treats in appreciation - for not shooting the bad guy.
