In all the Ares talk of their web scenes and stuff that is one thing I have wondered. How do they keep that zest going when it can be a while between poses? Or is that just a me problem?
Well, the browser has alerts so if you're actively around you'll see that there's activity in the scene. Otherwise, it is a culture shift.
I'm used to it because I've played with a lot of people with vastly different schedules or busy RLs for whom a scene has to take days if it's going to have any meat to it. But it began with needing to 'pause' a scene on a game and going 'hey, why don't we use gdoc to finish this?' so that we didn't need to timestop ourselves. So I eased in to the idea.

WHY ARE THERE RAISINS, CAROL?!
Ares web portal supports YouTube videos.
MediaWiki doesn't
That makes it an auto win in my book.

@Auspice Tell me about it. When I was looking I would be getting offers to move across the country for 3 month contracts. Like I am going to pick up and move across the country for 3 months...
Yeah, I get tons of those. Offers in New Jersey and shit for 3-6 mo contracts. Like... really? wtf? Why would ANYONE.
This makes me feel better about having my PC on SGM in a player's PRP. I really enjoyed the scene, but the whole time I was a little antsy that someone would come along and be mad that a Staff PC was in a PRP.
...but I'm still not brave enough to run plots that let me put my own PC into scenarios I wanna play. I'll keep sitting here, fingers crossed, that someday someone runs one for me. >.>
So I officially retired my old daily wear hoodie this year. I've been wearing it for 10? years (unless I need a heavier hoodie or a full coat...) and it's just... it's stained, the elastic at the cuffs/hem is worn out. It was time.
And to replace it....... I got the Crimson Days hoodie through the Destiny 2 rewards through my tax return before, y'know, I got fired. It arrived today and it's perfect. It's a darker purple than it looked like on the site, which I <3. I got just the right size. It's hella soft. It's not too thick (so good for living in TX). I love it.
It looks like @Joyeuse has been on MSB since 2016 (lurking, I suppose! and nothing wrong with that. I lurked the entirety of WORA and SWOFA), so it may well be their concept of the community has been warped by us, here. (Especially to have witnessed us at 20-years-old!)
Which I wouldn't recommend taking us as indicator of the MU community as a whole.

Her voice is magical.
SHE IS WHY I WANT IT BACK.
Every time I run past her on Traveler and get that little snippet I wanna cry because HER VOICE ACTING IS NOT USED NEARLY ENOUGH.

@Auspice I joined Fallcoast for maybe a week in 2016 at the request of the friend. (Didn't quite stick around, but ended up coming back 3 years later to give it another shot anyways.) And - despite what I've seen in the Hog Pit - most people here seem decent enough! I actually forgot I had an account here until I tried to sign up again last night and my email was taken.
Gotcha. Please forgive me- after the baiting attempts we've had around here by people who will start something that seems innocuous or even constructive, the disparity stood out to me.
Fallcoast would've been a rough place to start, IMO!
The one thing that's made me feel any sort of directly unwelcome or pushed away is mostly just the overly-thirsty TS hounds on non-sex MUSH's that only seem interested in doing exactly that. The rest of it, I suppose, is just being self-conscious and anxious in a new space!
Unfortunately, this is a Thing. It's more common on big games than small ones (they're more easily ousted on small ones / lose their pool to try to fish in). I think people want the challenge of finding TS/their kinks on a non-sex game. At least that's what I tell myself.
I, personally, don't deal with it very much, but I know people who do and I have dealt with it here and there. Usually because I've chosen the 'right' (or is that wrong?) PB or because something in my RP captures their attention. But most of the time, I'm using PBs outside of the 'insta/super model or top 10 actresses' range (not dissing anyone who does these things: they just aren't my personal go-to!) and that seems to be what the TS-stalkers go for.

Her voice is magical.
I have been reading The Expanse since around the time the second book came out. All the characters had unique voices in my head as I read, including Chrisjen Avasarala.
And after the TV adaptation started, when the next book came out and I started reading? I just heard Shohreh Aghdashloo instead. I literally cannot even remember what voice I used to mentally hear for Avasarala; it has been completely supplanted and I can envision no other. That did not happen with any other character.
Her voice is just sooooo good.
I love her so much.
I watched season 1 of Punisher and it was like, 'Madani, you listen to your mother, SHE CAN POLITICALLY MANEUVER THE ENTIRE GALAXY YOU KNOW.'
Okay, forgive the minor play on words there.
This is absolutely not targeted to anyone, as a disclaimer. Partly because I have seen it just about everywhere and just about as long as I can remember.
Why are people afraid to be the first pose in an event?
Almost every plot scene I've been in or run for the past whatever years, the first 15-20 minutes (it doesn't take this long to read a set and write a pose) is wasted in a middle school dance of silently willing someone else to be first out on the floor. Even people who are prone to 'I do all the things!,' I have noticed, are like this.
Often, once one pose has gone up, all the rest follow in a flood which tells me people were just waiting for someone to be first.
I have two theories on this, but I think they have a core conflict with one another.
Theory 1
People are uncertain what to do and want someone else to guide them.
My issue with this theory is this: it implies the ST didn't give enough detail. And maybe I don't! But I don't think that would be the case with every ST and as I said: I see this happen everywhere. Additionally, if it is the case: why aren't people asking for clarification?
Theory 2
People are scared of looking like they're too eager or greedy for the spotlight.
I also have an issue with this theory because I know plenty of people who aren't remotely a 'I DO ALL THE THINGS!' sort of person. And many of the spotlight-addicts would have, in theory, no issue leaping forward first to set the tone.
So what is the cause of it?
And what can we do to improve it, to prevent wasted time? (or alternatively: to encourage people that it's OK to be first to pose.)
One idea I have is to 'release' the set pose early (if you have a select group of people attending) and let them think about their first pose in the hours leading up to the event / ask any questions they have. Unfortunately, this won't work in every scenario (some events are all-comers, some people can't login until event start...).
Shelf bras sort of cut in halfway across my boobs. Because if I try to fit my breasts into them, the rest spill out over the top of the camisole.
Just say no to shelf bras.

Theory 2
People are scared of looking like they're too eager or greedy for the spotlight. That is me.
Admittedly, when I hesitate, it's me also.
I feel like I have two reactions to scene sets:
a) I see something super cool in it that I want to reply to!
b) I'm not sure what I want to do, so I sort of hover and see what others are doing first.
When it's A, I often DO end up posing first... but while biting my nails worrying people will think I'm over-eager.
B ... might be where a lot of people are ending up, but still begs a question:
What can we (both as players and STs) do to help?
@Tempest said in First Through the Gate Syndrome:
I have definitely been to plot scenes that are opened with a GM set of basically "stuff is happening in the neighborhood!" so the person who poses first in the scene is...still kind of setting the scene, since they set the tone of how/why/where/what people are meeting up to do about the GM's set.
I hadn't even thought about those kind of events, but you're absolutely right.
Would it be better to leave that sort of concept as-is? Or try to identify a PC you can ask to 'help' by setting the stage?
Hey, y'all, this awesome guy I met at SXSW Gaming is streaming all day today and raising money for https://npitx.org/ (a non-profit post-secondary school here in TX for those with autism).

I want to wait for someone else to "dictate" the response to the GM set, etc.
I hadn't considered it this way before.
So I think what we're (I'm) finding is this:
The GM set is somewhere between a description and a scene set, but the first person to pose 'completes' the set for everyone.

And for reference if you're an in-person kind of shopper, those stores are Nordstrom's, Soma, and Lane Bryant. All of which do fittings, but Nordstrom's seem most accurate and knowledgeable about things like.... bras that fit your shape, not just your size. Boobs are many and varied!
I tried Lane Bryant once and they wanted to go up to a 40-something+ on band to keep me within the D/DD/DDD structure. It was......comical.
It's why I'm glad that the Breakout Bras storefront was where I used to live in SC. Got a proper fitting and once I was within my proper size, the difference was just amazing.
