@tek I have PCOS, which literally makes it near impossible to lose weight. The average calorie deficit needed to lose weight on this disease is 800 cals/day (yes there have been studies). Despite that, while I'm pudgy, I've managed to stay under 150 and maintain good blood pressure by working my tail off. At 4'11, this makes me a bit pudgy - pudgy, but not terribly obese. Yet, what do I hear every time I get sick and go to the doctor? Well, if I'd just lose weight...

I have PCOS and hypothyroid. The struggle is freakin' real. Thankfully, the doctors I've found more recently know I'm -working- on losing weight and that my body is working against me. But I've heard that so many times over the years.

I'm sure the lawyer-types floating about could explain it better than I... But freedom of speech in the US basically means you're free to express yourself without government censorship/involvement. Where in some cultures there have been times (and still are in places) where, say, speaking out against your country's leader can get you imprisoned (or worse). Freedom of speech says 'You have a right to your own thoughts, opinions, and counsel, without the government's influence.'

A lot of people -- especially kids whose schools haven't taught it properly -- think freedom of speech means 'I can say whatever I want whenever I want and no one can stop me.'

For the kids, on the forums I worked on, I'd often explain it as:
'If someone came into your home and began insulting you, you'd ask them to stop or leave. You wouldn't just stand there and allow it to happen. This site is privately owned and run. We want it to be a safe environment for everyone, so sometimes we have to ask you to keep those thoughts to yourself... or to leave.'

It dumbs the concept down a lot, yes, but... they were kids.

I've done the emulator thing on my computer.

      I hate it.

I hate the keyboard interface and unless I go out and buy a controller just for it (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1b4c/?srp=1 - $15-20 apiece), the modern controllers are hinky to map/use.

And then you have to hope the game was actually ported correctly.

So sue me if I want this nifty machine I just plug into my TV and get to play without headaches.

Thanks, guys. 🙂 I was a bit worried about the day when we sat on the tarmac for an hour... But all told, everything went much more smoothly than I expected.

As a long time cat owner, I tried not to close my eyes too often around it. In cat world that means it's time to feast.

Years ago, I blacked out randomly. I remember a severe pain in my chest... then waking up on the floor.

I woke up because my cat was licking my face. I like to tell myself that he was concerned about me (this was a cat who would curl up next to my face at night and knead my cheek while purring), but I know the truth... he was preparing for the feast.

Downside of my job. I work from home.

I could take time off if I got someone to cover my hours, but as we have not even the most remote semblance of PTO... I try to avoid it since, y'know, got bills to pay.

So I'm bundled up, sipping tea, and chugging along. At least I've got a day off tomorrow!

I've been dealing with twice daily asthma attacks for the past few weeks. Up from the 'once every couple days' that I saw my doctor for at the end of October. I've got an inhaler I use twice daily, but I'm still having to use the emergency one. Often I wake up in the middle of the night to use it.

I haven't had this much trouble breathing in about a decade. Gonna have to go in to the doc this week and see about a nebulizer or something.

I hate asthma. I hate that feeling that I suck at the most basic of bodily functions.

I was out of money and insurance and inhaler meds a few years ago. Ended up having to go to the ER. That feeling of suffocating slowly is so not fun. Hope you feel better soon!

I am sorry. I've been there and yeah, it super sucks.

I hit my insurance deductible back in November, so I will grabbyhand at whateeeeever the doctor wants to hand me on Friday since I won't have to pay for it.

I just have no idea where to look anymore. Admittedly I make this a lot harder for myself in that the kind of women I tend to be very attracted to are modern, liberal, living-their-dream types who always seem to have zero interest in children (or at least, they're the only ones who make dating profiles in my area).

I never had luck with social dating sites. But, I promise, there's modern, liberal, 'working towards goals' women out there who want kids. I'm one of them and I've known a few.

Chances are they're too busy for dating sites or they've been turned off by the kind of guy they come across (last time I tried, 95% of the messages/hits I got were guys just wanting to get laid or guys wanting a 'third' for them and their SO).

I gotta give props to my cat.

Normally, she won't sleep anywhere but by/on my legs. However, when I was verra sick and just sleeping it off Wed/Thurs, she spent a lot of time curled up right next to my neck/shoulders.

Cats really can tell when you just need that extra bit of love.

I, for one, am a fan of both vulgarity and kitty videos.

I would love to have a clove for you.

But I will eat my burger tonight in your honor. They were something I couldn't even think of touching when my gallbladder was failing me... So it's def one of those 'food you may someday find yourself unable to consume' things.

I'm glad to hear things are improving. 🙂
