It's because you can't win in WoD. You always piss someone off, or become the target of the latest social outrage. It's exhausting.

Since when was winning the goal of roleplaying?

I think 'winning' these days is 'was in an enjoyable plot where everyone had fun.'

@Auspice That probably the best game of the week, though. I tried watching Browns/Rams and I'm pretty sure I dozed off.

      internal screaming

When I interviewed for my job originally, they were interviewing for 2 positions. The one I got the position for and another (also tech writer) for another tool. I knew that one would be a month-ish behind the other, but I've heard nothing. I've actually been tempted to ask my boss about it because hey maybe that person could be good for collab and support and...

My boss just asked if I could make time this week (thankfully I can; my test environment is being taken down for a few days :P) to attend some meetings for and review the demo of the other tool and give her an estimate of how big a project it'd be.

...then told me that at the moment, she's considering just extending my contract so I can work on it, too.

      surprised

      I love this job.
      I love this company.
And I've been kinda-sorta-panicking over what I'd do when the contract is up in January.

So I feel awesome that she has this level of confidence in me (a little of the 'imposter syndrome' just slipped away) and that I might maybe get to keep working here a bit longer.

but I am interested in what songs people pick for my chars.

In the early 2000s, a few games I was on would do games/themes for the @doing messages on WHO.

One that a couple games did was 'Song for the person above or below you.' Meaning you'd set your @doing to a song for either the person above you in the list or below.

I absolutely loved seeing what people picked. I'm not sure it's vain (though maybe it is!), but I see it more as a way of getting a glimpse into how others see my PC and whether or not I'm portraying them like I want.

      Yes.
(Actually no. I know at least one person who still uses Pandora.)

I wish there was a less clunky way to keep a playlist shareable since mine change constantly and I often find it irritating to transfer them/keep them up to date on spotify.

I like the fact that Ares markdown is setup to allow embedding Spotify playlists. Then I only have to keep the one thing updated.

I've actually gone so far, in the past, as to make collaborative playlists for games.

I love seeing what other people feel is the musical theme of a game or plot.

@Paradox and I do have a tendency to have chars in relationships. But part of the fun we have is picking out songs for the characters. Even songs for specific scenes. I'd say that's like,10% of why I love rping with him because I feel like most people when I go 'omg this song is perfect for this scene' just roll their eyes at me.

Part of what pissed me off about my date yesterday is he got all condescending about modern music, saying everything made in the past decade is trash. Fuck that.

I know no one will ever have the same exact tastes I do, but at least be able to appreciate and embrace music..

      Edit: also whassa CoD

RDC had a game set in New Orleans, yes.

Good players who like telling stories are still out there. If you build it, they will come.

This is very true and in my still-sleepy posting, I should have said as much as well. On SGM, we require anyone who apps in as a Captain (highest ranking officer available in CG) to run something once a month. Can be social, can be a plot. It's the other side to having that shiny 'in charge of PCs' badge.

Those who have apped in there have been awesome about this.

But we have another player who jumped up to run something and it's been a great plot.

All we do on SGM is ask for an outline and that's largely just to make sure whatever's being done fits in with metaplot and isn't going to cause any issues with what Paradox and I have planned.

But I think @krmbm and I have some better luck by being non-WoD games. I feel like finding STs these days on WoD is a lot harder, unfortunately. I'm not sure if its burnout or just the way that community has shifted.

    • RE: Games? Do they exist? Where?

      @RDC

I totally understand this issue and I'm sorry.

The last time I'd looked into opening a game (before SGM), I had a whole bunch of people jump up offering to help Staff. But because Faraday has done such an excellent job with Ares, there's not a terrible amount of overhead needed once things are moving.

So every person who offered, I told: I will be requiring every Staffer to run plot.

And every single one backed out.

I think there are plenty of people who do just as you say. They want the access and accolades, but balk at the actual work. Considering how many of the above were/are friends, I was kind of disappointed!

I wish I had a solution, but I don't. Ares can be run solo: Faraday and others have done it. But a WoD game absolutely needs a staffing team. And I see no issue with demanding that people who staff actually put the work in.

That said, if you do want to get NOLA moving again... Just take it one bit at a time. I know the whole can be a lot (esp under depression). For me, I keep a todo list and add everything I need to do for SGM to it. I try to knock out one or two a day, but with everything separated out I'm able to grab the ones I feel capable of and leave the others aside. This does mean I have an item that's sat there for a month now, but I also get others done sometimes the same day I add them.
