I don't support it in MU*s because of the high probability of minors accessing those games.

This is really the crux of the discussion here.
Minors do access MUs. Maybe not in the volume and frequency they did when we were all teenagers, but they do.

And ousting pedophiles from our community is something we can all work together to do, vs. trying to play it off as 'well it's not video....' 'well it's not in person....' Except how many of us do engage in OOC/RL friendship/communication? How easy does a MU make that to happen? Pages, @mails... these aren't monitored for player safety.

So I am 100% behind disallowing this behavior to be engaged in on any level within our community.

I'd insert that Michael Jackson-eating-popcorn gif, but I figure given the ongoing news about him and all it might be in bad taste.

^ Also found this quite fun.

okay now I'm debating a 'good bad movie' thread because I want to know more about this.

I worked, for years, in moderation of children's games and forums.

There were very, very strict rules (on top of COPPA) about not sharing personal information, not sharing contact info, and no sexual roleplay. Did the forums and games probably have teenagers who were having sex IRL? Sure. (The main forum I worked on for the longest time had an average age range spanning 9-15 years old.)

But the rule was in place to prevent grooming. We had a serial user (much like our 4channer here) who would show up and tip his hand within a couple posts as to what he was out for. Did he probably do the same elsewhere? I'm sure. But we sure as fuck didn't let him linger around as soon as we identified him.

I witnessed, a depressing number of times, getting to a post or chat too late to stop kids from sharing their phone number or other RL details (including things like 'I'll be at X place on Y day, we should meet!'). I also witnessed them share adult RP sites/forums/MUs as a 'way to play without the mods catching us!' Was the one sharing the site an adult? Possibly. Probably. But these grooming behaviors are why we absolutely shut down every potential avenue we could.

In the eyes of the law, a 20 year old with a mental capacity of 13 might as well as be a child, regardless of their physical age.

I think what disturbs me most is that the original comment ('I know I'd personally find a 20 year old with the mental age of a 13 year old a lot more disturbing...') implies they'd be totally OK with sex with a 13-year-old who is 'mature for their age.'

When I was 15/16, I actually pulled out my ID on three separate occasions to prove to people I wasn't 20+. I developed young, so I looked older than I was (to the extent that twice I got offered/served alcohol without question while out with my parents).

That 'maturity' and shit didn't matter when a guy who was 21 began trying to hook up with me while I was 15. The whole rest of the group came down on it.

Physical or mental: sex with someone underage is wrong.

Star Citizen. I can't play the stupid game that I paid for numerous times over because it never ever will be released. But at least I have a lot of pretend spaceships I can't fly. YAY!

I am so glad I only ever got the basic pre-order for that and quickly realized 'oh, this is... not worth my money.' I know too many people who have sunk in the order of $1k+ into it.

Depending on how you inject the insulin, I can maaaaaaaybe see that one. Needle phobias are a thing and I still sort of flinch when my dad is around and just whips out his kit and needle and everything.

HOWEVER: they can just not look? I mean. I understand the phobia but also just look somewhere else for thirty seconds, yeesh.

one of the problems with Twitter

I think it's one of the problems of our instant access and availability to spread rage and find echo chambers. Twitter is an avenue for that, but isn't unique.

      This.
Twitter, I think, just makes it easier to find and encapsulate. But look at YouTube comments (the owner of the video would get alerts for all of those), article comments (again, the above).... many of us have trained ourselves out of reading comment threads, but there are people who have to.

@Jaded Most of my pre-orders have come from beta, yes.

As for CDPR: they have a specific philosophy based around 'we will not release until we are satisfied' and they also don't overwork their employees (supposedly, at least). I am glad to support them.

      @Auspice Preorders shouldn't be a thing.

That said, you bet your ass I preordered Cyberpunk 2077...

Pre-orders serve a purpose. They indicate interest in the game (important for funding!) and they help manage sales (instead of shipping ### to every single store, they know: ok we got only 2 pre-orders at Store A, but 50 at Store B... Store B needs way more stock than Store A). I can totally understand them. I understand the dislike for some aspects of them (the 'pre-order bonus' stuff is stupid), but I understand them in general.

...I still need to pre-order Cyberpunk 2077. I can afford to now!

Unfortunately, some of that blame is on us gamers, too. (Maybe not us here, but the community at large) Look at the utter backlash some companies have gotten when they delay a release.

I'm fine with a delay for the reasons you stated. I'd rather they release a game that works and that they're happy with. But holy god do some people rage, cancel pre-orders, etc. etc.

      TRIPLE POST!

Worst, most painful movie I can remember voluntarily watching all the way through?

      The Dragonlance animated movie thing.

I could never summon up the interest in watching that in the first place. The people I knew who were most excited about it, at time of release, were the like........ fringe gamers? Like people who sometimes gamed but not really (as in they might have played a TTRPG once or twice and played board games once or twice a year maybe) but had read a Dragonlance book? It was a weird demographic.
