      @aria TELL ME YOUR SECRETS.

      This.

I am a 16-18 atm and I pretty much give up most days. It's like I am not meant to wear anything remotely attractive, but I also hate that whole 'welp lemme just drape in a ton of fabric' because I hate the feel of 'excess fabric' it's like ugh too much everywhere.

I just have fabric issues. 😕

@wizz Jira is okay. We're migrating from SalesForce to Jira HelpDesk which is at least an upgrade, too.

      Zendesk is still the best.

Jira is fine for bug tracking.

Salesforce for cases is so. goddamn. clunky. I have to use it right now and it drives me insane. No merging. No mass emailing. I can't edit internal notes (accidentally put a note on the wrong case? linked the wrong file? TOO BAD). So many complaints about it.

Like Salesforce you can do so much WHY AREN'T YOUR CASES BETTER?!

(But the worst... the WORST was this one system I had to use that was... I forget the name of it, but it was some smaller company that M$ absorbed and then pretty much immediately decided to retire because they even realized it wasn't even worth the time/effort to try to fix.)

I am trying to think of a way to summarize what it is, but it's sort of like a... to-do list / issue tracker that ties directly into GitHub. Very handy for development processes if you're working on a project that has a Git repo.
(And I am assuming that is what they are using, but considering it's a dev project...)

@tinuviel It's lined, too, unlike most shitty women's fast fashion. I got it 30% off and am thrilled.

I have WANTED a vest for such a long long time....... Mmmmmmaybe I will be able to afford that someday.

If your company has HR, and they're actually good at their jobs (by no means a given), then it might be worth taking some time with one of them to help coach you through asking about this. You have to be somewhat careful, since they are there first and foremost to serve the best interests of the company. But they can be really good at helping you navigate dealing with a difficult manager. And it does put you on record as having concerns.

I've been trying to think about what to do there.

The one HR person in our office is the guy who I felt brushed off my concern about that one manager's behavior. In general, we contact HR through a catch-all email they have and they pull cases, etc., from there and will work with us. So I could email that...

...but they'd probably want to point me back to him. And I'm just not sure I feel 100% comfortable taking a concern to him now. But I'm also scared if I email that and go 'I don't feel entirely comfortable working with...'

...I'll end up causing problems for myself in the office because he will see it and be aware of it because he's on that list.

And the only other HR person I know personally is the woman who RUNS HR because I've been with the company long enough that I remember when she was one of TWO PEOPLE who ran HR all by themselves! Because it used to be a very small company and only needed the two of them. So I don't wanna be like 'Hey. so, I know you're like, insanely busy nowadays, but.......'

Since they moved the other tenured guy to being a sort of "escalation path" which is kind of a Tier 2 role.... I feel like they wanted one of us tenured people to stay in the muck as it were.

But what's confusing is this week they had me do a training course. HR sent me a "Harassment and Discrimination" course to complete and the whole thing is structured for a managerial role. How to handle employees, hiring and interviews, how to handle situations if an employee comes to you with a complaint... None of it was from the employee POV.

So why make me take this course if they're not promoting me.

      It's almost like mockery.

You could look into a sex discrimination case or an ADA case.

I honestly wonder if that is the reason for them hiring this new guy.

I am fully qualified for the role. I have been with this company for years. I have supervisory experience for a technical team! Which is the reason they gave for hiring him. "Oh he has supervisor experience of a technical team."
So do I. It's on the resume you all have.

Like. I have tenure in the company. Experience. The client likes me.

I feel like this is either gender related or one of those bs situations of "we need you where you are because you get a lot of work done"

Which I hate even more because it means bad hours and low pay. All for just.....doing a good job.

      I'm just miserable.

I've made it clear I'm unhappy about the lack of any defined promotion path. I had a discussion about this and the sexist behavior of one of my managers with the client manager and HR.

HR gave the "are you sure he was being sexist?" spiel. I've only once before reported such. And that as the dude who pulled a "if I had my way,I'd force all women here to wear skirts" at Verizon.

And then today when these promotions were announced, I made it clear I had concerns. But that I wasn't comfortable discussing them in front of everyone.

So who did the client manager tell me I have to discuss them with?

The guy they promoted over me and the guy I filed the complaint on.

Anyone know if you can quit a job in TX and still collect employment?

I'm on the verge of tears and fucking miserable today. I mean I have been for a long time but I think I'm hitting my breaking point. I want to just hand in my notice and walk out the door. I'm afraid if I go too much further I'll risk fucking up and ending up fired.

7.5 years. No disciplinary action. Regular praise for my performance. Supervisory experience.

But they hire some guy from the outside and promote him to be the manager for our team after just a few weeks.

After today's actions and @Apos' report, I researched into the @Zander account and was able to prove that yes, he was also @anon. @Zander has been banned as well so that we don't risk a continuation of these fun and gamesshenanigans.

@auspice Universal Waite, so it's not like they're anything fancy. They're my only deck, though.

I carefully dried them a bit, slid them back into the deck, then shoved it between a flat surface and a heavy book hoping they'll dry flat instead of wrinkling up.

We should get you a new deck!

I am looking for wireless over-the-ear/on-the-ear headphones to wear during many late nights at work, when the quiet drives me crazy. They're more for use with my computer than my phone, so I don't give a shit about "call quality". And no, I don't want to spend $300, thanks every recommendations list ever.

      Whatchoo got, interwebs?

I have had these for a while. They're bluetooth, $25. I do need to replace mine because they have a short, but they've lasted over 2 years.

On the upper end, Skullcandy makes a number of options. I had their Plyr2 headset and really liked it. So while I can't speak to headphones, I like the brand a lot.

@auspice My roommate bought one a while back, and he seems to like it better than the Brita he had.

Yeah, I've had a couple people now tell me they're much better. And I can get one of the big ones w/spigot for about what I bought my Brita for. I've wanted one of those for a while! Just being able to fill a cup/water bottle without getting the whole pitcher out? It'd be nice for days when my fibro is really bad!

This fucking boil-water order due to the flooding in Austin and the people who aren't lowering their water usage so that the filtration system can catch up (the water company keeps putting out new requests, pleading for people to please cut back on their water use).
