He started off by asking if anyone had been to a tournament before and everyone said no except for one kid that raised his hand and proclaimed, "No, but I've watched the Karate Kid!"

Completely true story. I was watching Cobra Kai a couple of weeks ago and on my way home I was dropping a coworker friend off (he's in his late 20s) at his place so we were chatting about it.

I asked him if he had watched Karate Kid. He said, and I quote, "yeah, that's the one with the black kid."

I spend half my day on MSB what the hell are my coworkers doing??

I was once assigned a special project at a job. It was a call center gig and the project took me (and 3 other people) off the phones for a few days.

I milked it for all it was worth and I was even afraid I'd be caught slacking..... until the day our boss walks by and leans up on the divider all talking about how productive I am and I'm putting everyone else to shame and...

...I was on my laptop in the middle of posing at that very moment.

It's time consuming because nodebb is shit about splitting threads. Hence the idea of deleting the offending posts (which as Roz brings up, means the person being lashed out at no longer has to see it). The thread could stay intact, it's an actual consequence, and it takes up less time overall.

I thought the proposed solution was just to say "Hey knock it off" and leave the offending post until things escalated to dumpster fire levels?

That's how it has been done and clearly doesn't work. We've discussed deleting the offending posts and some people are very opposed to it.

The number of times my 'Hey this needs to be taken elsewhere' has actually worked is nil. I haven't seen it work for Gany, either. Sometimes people listen to Ark when he steps in, but....

I try it, because it's what people want (being given a warning for behavior they know full well is in poor taste), but at this point I'm feeling like it's just so people have more fodder for insisting we're useless/half-assing it/whatever insult is the favorite of the week on us three.

The other issue with it is this: people can be shitty purposefully to force a thread into the Pit.

Then you don't force the thread into the pit, just the messages.

If this is something that's too difficult with the current tools, then maybe they're the wrong tools.

I just don't think moving the posts (which is what we've been doing, sort of, since nodebb doesn't facilitate it as much as we'd want) is a better approach than deleting them which at the very least sends a message.

The other issue with it is this: people can be shitty purposefully to force a thread into the Pit.

I've suspected that to be the case at least a few times.

    • RE: My first cellphone

I used to be hard core on the Android train.

Despite my phone being a worthless piece of garbage within a year, year and a half if I was lucky. Lack of OS updates because they'd moved on to new phones, hardware failure, battery life becoming a few hours if I was lucky, etc.

But then I had to have an iPhone for work. I upgraded to the X at Christmas, but I had my 6 for three years and it was still running nicely save for the battery depreciation (which still wasn't as bad as some android devices I'd had).

Sometimes I miss Android for the flexibility, but I don't miss being stuck in a contract with 6-12 months remaining on a device that would make me want to put it through a wall.

@auspice Thank you so much for moving it! Apologies for going to the wrong place.

No problem! Wrong boards happen sometimes. It's why it's handy to move. Feel free to message me, Gany, or Ark if you (or anyone!) need a post of yours shuffled around. 🙂

Disagreements are, of course, to be expected, but they should be kept to a professional capacity: disagree with the idea, not the person. Attack the idea, not the person. Posts containing personal attacks will be deleted.

It's looking like people can take disagreements and criticism of their ideas as personal attacks and just yell how they feel insulted and shut down dissenting voices.

You directly attacked Faraday, which is in violation of what you quoted above.
Additionally, I had specifically requested people take the argument out of this thread as it is not a place for it.

You have a thread where you can say whatever you wish now, please take it there.

      Rules of Engagement

I'm keeping this one as a reminder, yes, of the rules of engagement. The post was originally in Ads, but as others pointed out: it didn't belong there. It has been moved. The rules apply going forward.

You have your Hogpit thread now, congratulations.

I have two specific playlists on Spotify that I have download to listen to offline.

      I have literally dozens, lol.

My primary playlist is like, 52 hours long at this point. I don't usually need another! >.>

      @auspice MOOSEX MOOD MUSIC, AMIRITE?

Spotify actually has some pretty dope songs that I keep in playlists for when I'm somehow somewhere that I can't play my Apple Music or there's song mixes only on Spotify.

Considering I'm online for my TEXT SEXINS, I don't need that downloaded!

(I do however have a folder entirely of character/plot/game playlists DONTJUDGEME.)

@hedgehog Both Spotify and Google Play let you save songs locally for future playback (and, for example, to only download songs on wifi to preserve data).

Amongst the many thrilling possibilities that comes along with diabetes (weight + family history = odds stacked against me) is that it makes healing much harder. Apparently I scratched a spot on my shoulder in my sleep, and I've had to see a doctor as a result. Doing both external and internal antibiotics, popping ibuprofen for the pain, and basically walking around with a half-supporting bra because right now straps are the devil.

      Nnnnnngggggh.

I understand your pain. ;.; I get in a similar boat sometimes because of severe anemia. One of my cats scratched gave me a scratch on my back something fierce the other week and it will not heal. Part of the issue is I keep forgetting that it's there (since I can't see it?), so I'll get this itch! Between my shoulders! and go to scratch it.... and rip the whole thing open again unwillingly.

Hopefully the external antibiotics help. I know sometimes just getting something cooling and soothing on a spot like that can be the most wondrous thing.

Hey, my boss left an entire week off of my check! Twinsies!

      Ugh.

I'm still waiting to hear back from payroll. The person I know personally in payroll (who adores me, a, and runs payroll, b) is on vacation this week. I'm waiting until she gets back before I take further action.

If I don't hear anything after she gets back? I'm going to the Workforce Commission. $200 is not a small amount when you live paycheck to paycheck like I do.

I really need a fucking car.

Got on the bus tonight to pay witness to a woman shouting at an older black man about how he was breaking through law (???) by wearing a jacket on the bus and she didn't feel safe and was going to call the cops......and proceeding to try to drag me into it (thanks lady, really love the implication of being racist alongside you, sure).

She finally got off. Rest of ride seemed all right. Until I went to get off the bus and another woman who had been quiet all along began screaming threats and obscenities at me. Didn't even realize it was me until I looked over and she was pointing at me while threatening to kick my ass.

The guy who had been the target of the first woman got off at the same stop and he looked at me to shake his head and commented that he doesn't know what's gotten into people tonight.

I just want a car so I can go straight home in peace. 😕

I'd been a Pandora guy for years but recently I've dropped them in favor of Apple Music. Why? Family plan. Plain and simple. While I prefer the interface of Pandora, I'm slowly becoming accustomed to Apple Music. Radio stations aren't as intuitive but the selection is huge and seemlessly adds itself to my own library. Which I kinda dig.

Just like that U2 adds itself to your library.

I find it really interesting no one has voted for 'radio'. Not a single person.

Because radio has more commercials than music.

      Oh! Double-post.

For anyone on Sprint: I know Spotify had and they still might.... a certain number of months free for family plan Premium. When we signed up, it was for a year free.
(They've also had deals for Hulu and other services. Always good to check on your profile on the Sprint site. They offer a lot of stuff lately.)
