A list of plot elements that theyre hoping to find for their character (TBH, I don't see WHY saying openly that a player is hoping for a romantic interest for their character, or characters to help with a plot involving the disappearance of their sister would hurt)

We tried this on BSU and T8S alike and some players made use of it, but only those who are already prone to running after plot. Most players still just ignored it entirely. Even when it was made clear: 'Hey! STs can utilize these pages to generate plot ideas, particularly ones that will involve your character.'

And that's even a passive way of signifying your interest. πŸ˜•

      Non-sandbox games

I see more interaction on sandbox games than non-, personally. Might be a YMMV there. But then, I consider WoD to be sandbox? So that might be why.

I do agree with alt-limits, for sure. I don't think killing OOC Rooms is the point though. I find the more camaraderie I build, the more I engage. There's a couple people on the game I'm most engaged on who never interact with anyone else (either in the OOC Room or on channels) and I feel absolutely no draw to interact with them. They never ask to RP with anyone outside of certain people, they never chat, they never... like, who are they? What are their goals? They don't even have a wiki page. I have no idea who they are.

I'm kinda extroverted in MU* terms, but I have no idea how to approach this person. I need some form of OOC engagement. NO OOC!!! would be a reason to never, ever touch a game for me.

OOC engagement inspires me. I've had plots spark out of OOC joking around.

But as an ST... it is so. freaking. disheartening. to run plot and basically have people disengaged unless I'm constantly holding their hand and leading the way. Show me you're interested? Please? Somehow?

Like if you're enjoying what I'm doing, let me know. Somehow. Otherwise, why am I even doing it?

Yes, yes, I've already seen it all.

I am asking to see if I can read the book without already being spoiled.

I'm hoping to watch the show in the next couple days (off work + less homework). I'll be able to let you know then.

Desperately need haircut. I think the length (my hair is heavy, it has contributed in the past) is causing some of these recent migraines. Can't afford haircut (since haircut is cost of haircut + cost of rideshare to/from because I don't have the free time to spend a couple hours on the bus).

I'm dangerously close to trying to cut it myself.

@rnmissionrun The husband uses one of those silicon skins over his keyboard to help keep it clean.

He had me try one, because I go through keyboards like kleenex. (With all the long-winded bullshit I type, I realize this probably shocks no one.)

I am so brutal on keyboards that it lasted less than three months before I had worn right through it. I mean, I have stupidly acidic skin on my hands (has eaten through fine leather gloves inside a day before), but... uh, just keep that caution in mind in case you are similarly hard on keyboards.

If you're not, though, one of those might help, and they're reasonably cheap.

I was using those, but I went through them fast, too. And they just seemed to impede my typing.

As for putting Linux on- been there, done that, don't have the hours to waste on dealing with the bullshit.

If you have the free time to waste, be my guest. I don't. As it is, I don't get enough sleep at night for how busy I am. I use Mac or Windows because I know it'll work. I can work with Unix, I have worked with Unix, but regardless of distro, you're going to sit and spend time finding packages to make shit work.

And then doing it again months later.

      And again months later.

      and again...

      ..........and so on.

Some people get their kicks doing that. I don't anymore. You wanna pay me to do it, sure. But not on my free time.

That's not my experience at all but then we're probably not using our PCs for the same things.

I always seem to end up with the situations where I have one or two devices with really annoying to find / finicky drivers. Like, without fail. Hell, I have that happen on my current machines. The plight of a power user. πŸ˜‰

@surreality Normally maybe, but Florida doesn't have State Taxes on Wages. So that was a non-issue.

I have learned there is this gap area juuuuuust above the poverty line where you are fucked. It was this way before the tax reform too. I've been there the past few years. the reform didn't help me, either. Before the 'hey you're a student, have money!' I owed $4.

Yep, poor af and I owed $4. And I moved from a state with no income tax to a state with no income tax. I am just above the poverty line.

It's a terrible gray area to be in. You don't make little enough to get aid programs or enough to benefit from anything. You're in the forgotten gap. 😞

the joys of Macbooks. Mind, this seems to be an edge case. I can't find many examples of this particular issue. I'm really hoping compressed air fixes it and it is just a piece of dust or cat hair wedged in the contacts somewhere.

Else wise I'll just get a portable keyboard and hold out until I graduate. I've only got a few weeks left of hauling a backpack while walking and busing, so adding a bit more weight of a keyboard isn't a huge deal.

@auspice Since you're outside of warranty anyway, do you maybe have a local mom/pop computer shop you can find out if they can fix it? Not cheap, but possibly not the arm, leg, and firstborn that Apple would charge you. They usually have the tools and experience for the work that make those videos less of a scary prospect.

I already reached out locally. they can undercut Apple by a whole whopping... $200. Making it only $500 vs. $700. And same-day repair at least. Even so, I'd still be better off buying a netbook or tablet and making this essentially a desktop at that point. πŸ˜•

@auspice ...for what it's worth, some of the logitech keyboards aren't bad. The apple magic keyboard works on bluetooth, and has a similar feel to most of the macbook keyboards, so while it's a little more expensive than some of the ones set up for tablets/etc. by default, I can vouch that they do work (and will actually still work with an iPhone or an iPad as well, if you have either). They're also non-huge and could easily slip into a bag beside the laptop itself?

I've been considering the Apple Magic keyboard since the cost for a refurb isn't too terrible (and not having to have a dongle plugged in would be nice since they can break). I want something small, to reduce weight.

I've considered trying to replace the keyboard myself, but looking at walkthroughs/videos, it... is not an easy process, by any means whatsoever. I'd be putting the whole laptop at risk. I can't do that. πŸ˜•

the 't' key on my Macbook keyboard is pretty much dead. I can only get by by keeping a t on copy to paste as I go. I've replaced the whole keycap assembly. My next step is gonna be taking a can of compressed air to it in case some piece of debris is wedged under the contact since eeeeevery so often I get use out of it again (usually just for a few minutes).

But the machine is two years out of warranty and I know getting it fixed through Apple would be $700 and upward of 2 months shipped out. πŸ˜• At this rate, I guess my only option is just buying a good portable bluetooth keyboard?

It sucks since this machine is otherwise in amazing shape still. 😞

Considering the increased frequency of migraines over the past two weeks as compared to when I began my current dosage of topiramate, I think the meds have lost their effectiveness. I was down to 1-2 a month (I was spending 5-6 days a week suffering this time last year). Now I'm back up to 2-4 days a week.

And the sumatriptan does absolutely nothing and so far no doctor believes me when I tell them so.

When I was on naratriptan, they'd give me three pills per monthβ€”and prescribe 'take one at onset of attack, and a second if attack continues'. Three pills.

The math just didn't quite work there.

      alt text

I wish I could say I am surprised buuuuut...

      UGH.

That's kinda how my sumatriptan is. 6 pills a month. Take 1 if attack hits, 1 if it persists.

If I end up in an attack cycle, I usually have 3-4 in a week.
