I am always happy to welcome people into Blackram and provide hooks.
I've failed at trying to make roster characters for the House, but I can absolutely help someone build a character and get them involved in plot from the get-go.

Yep, that's exactly the time frame I was in college there. The bookstore doesn't sound familiar but the coffee shop does, and I too can't quite remember where it was.
Well, at least now I know I wasn't hallucinating the coffee shop. Sometimes I've wondered if I did, even though I have clear memories of the people I was with, the wood grain of the table, etc.

We lived in the same city at that same time! What a small world! What part of town was the shop in? It sounds familiar.
I've been wracking my brain for years trying to remember. I lived there 2004-2007 and it was NaNoWriMo 2004 that I spent a lot of time there. It was a coffee shop full of old couches, chairs, battered tables, and it was sort of notable in my mind for a big ass couch in the front window.
I really wish I could remember what part of town so I could ask the people I know still in the region 'IS IT STILL THERE?!'
There was also this little quaint downtown spot somewhere on the east side that had the most amazing used bookstore that I just randomly stumbled across and I'd love to point people to it but I literally just stumbled across it during one of my 'go out and drive aimlessly' days.
There's a coffee shop in Cincinnati that (at least while I lived there in early 00's) had the most 90s grunge feel to it. I miss that coffee shop sometimes.

The 'discovery' mode in Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey are free to all on UPlay until May 21st. Good way for kids (or anyone!) to explore historical locations (since a TON of research and effort goes into these games for their atmosphere).

I'll say this, Ares does make it easier for me. I can't always sit down and RP for 3 or 4 hours. Being able to start a scene and pose when I'm able has worked wonders for getting me back into things.
I do wish more people would embrace this. Many of us have and it's lovely, but there's still a lot of people in the 'If I can't do it live, it doesn't work' camp.

Why have you chosen online text-based games as a way to stave off insanity from your isolation?
Online text-based games are one of the more accessible means to learn to become better at communication and social cues. You don't have to deal with any of the difficulties of interpreting body language or the intensely difficult task of figuring out the appropriate time to speak during verbal communication or the pressure of real time communication in general.
It's one of the few places in the world where it's possible to pretend to be normal.
As someone who struggles, immensely, with reading body language... this is very true. So very.
Yes, there's the lack of intonation to understand when someone is joking (for example), but I miss the same cue IRL so very often. Oh god so often.
https://www.7cups.com/ I've heard good things about this one. It's a community of people who volunteer (and they have training!) to listen and talk to you as needed. There is a paid option for therapy, but the free option isn't terrible either.
https://openpathcollective.org/ This is what I've gone through for my therapy. They scale the cost based on your income. My therapist is all virtual (video) visits, so I don't have to go anywhere.

@Auspice Find another book club. Consider this fair warning of what you can expect from those people.
I'm in another which has an awesome person running it (who DOES keep such things in mind). I just had a few people invite me to this one so I thought sure, I'll check it out.
Now I'm like newp, nope, backing out.
Like, it's great that you (the person in question) want to encourage people to read and want to share this book and have the gumption to start this... but not everyone will be reading from the same copy (or reading at all since so many people use audio books now!). You have to take that into consideration!
Got invited to join a book club.
They're like 'We're ending on page ### for the first week.'
I said hey, can we break it down by ending on chapters each week?
'Oh that's what I'm doing.'
I'm trying to explain why it needs to be PER CHAPTER (since, y'know, page numbering isn't consistent per publications, some people might be using audio book, ereaders don't always show page numbers, etc.) and people are getting pissy at me for not 'respecting' the person running the book club.
Shit like this is why I hate people.
I think the choreography is kind of horrible on purpose?
Maybe? It sort of reminder me of this except not as good or as funny.
ETA: Team Max forever.
I'm team Max because I just like Skylar Astin. I liked him in Pitch Perfect and I really liked him on Ground Floor (a two-season sitcom that I inexplicably adore).
Team Max because he's adorkable.

@RightMeow wtf is redditgifts?
It's a massive gift exchange and they do themed exchanges. It's a lot of fun. I participate sometimes when I can afford it.
I really like doing the pet ones cause I get fun things for my kitties and I get to buy stuff for other people's animals.
@Macha I've had a couple jobs do this to me and I fucking hate it.
My pre Whole Foods job did it. I got put on a project as a team lead and was only doing email / chat support. I was told hey we know you have issues with call center stuff, we have your paperwork for anxiety issues on file. We just need you for training people, team lead role, and to do email/web chats.
A few months in.... 'So we're transitioning you to phone support- wait why are you quitting this project we desperately need you you can't leave please you're our only weekend lead role we need someone to open and close the office.........'
People seriously have no consideration for the role anxiety plays in phone issues. I'm so sorry.
Sometimes mods are okay is something I'm learning.
Looking at you skull cavern in Stardew Valley.
@Auspice Seriously. That 3rd act with American Pie? Goodnight Angel? Ded.
I didn't know I knew all the words to American Pie.
But you did and you sang along to the entire thing while weeping
...or was that just me
I didn't cry, I already told you someone splashed a cup of salty water on my face. >:/

I liked the show enough. Loved the concept. The execution was underwhelming for me though, particularly in the musical numbers. But that's the main hook of the show, so unfortunately it wasn't as great as I was hoping it would be.
I couldn't really get through the first episode. Does it get any better? Like the episode just seemed to go on forever and the fact that they weren't singing original numbers was meh to me.
They have an episode where a deaf girl signs 'her' song.
They don't cheapen it by having her 'magically sing.' They don't cover the vocal tracks in another way. It's just the instrumental and her signing.
It is, to this point, the most moving part of a very moving first season (for me at least). (Mind, I love the song choice in that scene so that might've had something to do with it BUT STILL, it shows how much THOUGHT the writers put into this.)

haven't brought myself to watch it yet. But I prob will tonight.
That show is sooooo goooooooood.
