I just know there's a lot of secret/night time actions that happen. There'd have to be time limits in place, I'd think. I'll read it over later and see what we can put together!

It was brought up that people have seen these games played on forums? I've personally only ever played 'live,' but if anyone's interested... I will look into the best ways to run it on a forum and facilitate a round or two.

Who knows, maybe someone can get things out of their system by hunting some townspeople.

@auspice Yeah, I've definitely played it on forum before.

Or some variation of it anyways. Some people are villagers, there's a handful of killers, then like somebody who can protect a person each night, and a person who can 'scry' a person each night, etc.

I'm guessing it relied heavily on PMs? Hm. I shall look into this if I have downtime at work today. I love me a game of Mafia/Werewolf and I'd be willing to facilitate a round or two.

But I was considering a new forum game just a bit ago. I'll keep the one I came up with in my back pocket if people are enjoying this.

We need to play a game of Mafia or something around here.

I think that's what it was called, anyways? It's been yeeeaaaars.

      Mafia or Werewolf.
Are there forum rules for that? I've only ever played in 'live' versions (IRL, epicmafia.com, or Town of Salem).

@auspice Does this game involve betting? I'm picturing something to do with @WTFE and a liver transplant wait list. Big money, no whammies!

It does not, but now you have me thinking!

It goes without saying that one of the few things worse than staffing on a Mu* is staffing on an internet message board.

As someone who has, for work, had to moderate forums (where I couldn't just get up and walk away if things got too annoying)...

Staffing on a MU* is worse.

@lithium Yeah, it probably belongs in 'Tastes Less Than Gamey'. It would be constructive to flag that to @Arkandel, @Ganymede and @Auspice, though. (I'm messaging them too.)

Done before you messaged. Ha ha!

Maybe the wrong thread for it, I'm over wrong fun arguments though.

Part of the issue is how quickly people accuse something of 'wrong fun.' It's become methodology to shut down an argument they don't like.

'How dare you play <role>.' - 'wrong fun'ing someone (lord do I hate the term; we need something better)

'If you're using X setting for a game, I'd suggest taking out Y because Y ruins it for MU*ing.' - opinion/advice, doesn't mean someone has to take it

The latter has led to arguments, yes, and it will. No more or less than bar debates on sports, movies, etc.. But with the psuedo-anonymity of the forums and the fact that people feel like they vs. their opinion are being attacked... the 'wrong fun' comes out as a way to lash back at the person who said it vs. just going 'Alright, well, I personally don't think Y will be an issue.'

It's human nature to get worked up over things you feel, personally, to be important. But I think we all have it in us to just walk away or at least express our disappointment in more light-hearted or polite ways.

Because seriously guys, every time you declare you're 'done with this discussion' (or variants thereof), WTFE has to buy more alcohol.

...wait I remember how that goes. Please don't throw ears at me.

ANYWAY. Arkandel approached me to ask if I'd help out on the administrative side. Mostly in regards to thread management (splitting things off to the Pit when necessary, etc.), though there may be times of stepping in if things get a bit too heated elsewhere.

If you need something admin-side and Ark isn't around, feel free to reach out to me.

I legit love Bill and Ted and try my best to subscribe to their philosophy (and obviously don't always do so great but y'know), so I will take it literally, thank you, haha. I only asked because it's an image macro and those can be ambiguous.

It was the first thing to come to mind with your question and rather than merely quote Bill & Ted, the image seemed the best response.

And I'd like to think we all strive for it, but y'know. We're human. Humans are fuckups.

What do you mean by help? What are you asking for and what are your expectations?

What is your deal? Like, is this a snarky response? Are you being sincere?

No, literal response. I feel that's the main thing Arkandel is asking for people to help with.

But, take it as you will.

I want a merc board, where people can show interest in being recruited for work at games, instead of having to wait for someone to start up a project.

I'd say the MU Code board could prob. be used for that. Or maybe the Questions one. No need for a whole separate section.

Shout in the Dark has been used for more than a "missed connections" board. "Looking for people to X" has been there too.

That would work, too! I suggested code/questions since a game runner might hit those up looking for advice to begin with, so it'd be a ready place for them to spot the 'resume.'

I think two threads for games (ad / discussion) could be good. Maybe not in the Hog Pit tho. Mildly Constructive, but with a potential to move to the Pit if it gets too bad?

I only say because not everyone subscribes to the Pit. And requiring it to view discussion threads on games seems wrong.

@auspice I don't know that I'd take up on that offer, or even that I like it, but it's fascinating.

It's not something I'd recommend for every game, but I think for an Aliens game? It'd be just about perfect. That's a universe/setting with a lot of death and you'd be removing some of the atmosphere if you didn't have it.

And we've discussed how even the best of us are bad at reacting to NPC deaths.

    • RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game

My concept is to offer up specialty characters (either via roster, randomized stats, or both) that are played with the knowledge that the bit will die at an ST's discretion.

You get a sort of 'bonus' alt, are encouraged to play them freely with everyone else, but someday they will die.

To me, this means you can skip out on raising lethality for other PCs too high (thus removing worry for the people who can't stand the idea of losing a bit) and you have a measure of control (since it's at ST discretion when it happens) over the people who will kill off a new one on a regular basis just for dramz.

The way I see it (obvs policies would need to be fleshed out) is that you'd play for 3+ months before any potential death. Enough time to play with people outside of +events/plot and foster those relationships.
