    • RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game

When NPCs are regularly used and then die, it's easier. However, it's hard to keep track of a catalog of NPCs. Some people will reference specific ones on the regular (like me with Pitbull on BSG:U), but it's pretty much 'old hat' for an ST to whip out some NPCs special use for a scene to kill them off.

And it's hard to dredge up those fucks to give. I try. I find it easier to slip into those other mindsets (but then, as an author, it's why I RP; to explore other character types, upbringings, etc. to help my writing). But when I'm writing a screenplay or novel, I know the deaths coming, I can weave in the characters involved, it's not just...

'Anderson died and plz remember you knew him for the past year!'

There's already discussions on ways to enhance the 'OH GOD THEY KILLED KENNY YOU BASTARDS' beyond hoping people can give a damn about an NPC that was in two ST poses.

Because this is a thing I care much about and I think I've even had discussions with @Seraphim73 in the past on it.

...aaaaaaaaaaand back to 'universe is mocking me.' The other job was 'assistant communications manager' with a marketing firm. Totally different stuff from what I've been doing, but fits with my degree.

But they largely do event marketing. They require everyone on their staff have a vehicle.

@auspice I don't know much about Star Wars, but what the heck is that ugly little screeching thing in the scene with Chewbaca? I felt a distinct urge to kill it.

New creature designed for the film, I believe. Someone else may know the name of it, but I don't (yet).

Got a job offer. It's below what I want to make (by a fair bit), but still more than I'm making now.

...bus doesn't run remotely anywhere near the office location and it's def. too far out to consider bike.

On the other hand, I did get an email from a much more interesting job I'd applied for that they want to setup an interview. So fingers hella crossed on that one (it'd be out of customer support).

Have your job hire me. Then your woes are over! And everybody wins.

Put in an application. They're hiring 4-5 more people and anyone I name goes to the top of the interview list.

@Auspice Hmm, maybe carpooling then? If any of your coworkers start at a similar time and don't live too far from you, I don't see why they wouldn't like to split the gas - and that's also way cheaper than an Uber.

Once we have more people in the office, I'm hoping to do that. Unfortunately, right now, there's 4 of us an no one lives on the side of town I do. But! We're looking to bring in 4-5 more people. I have my fingers crossed one of them will live somewhere nearby me that I can toss money at for gas, yes.

ETA: That is if any of them are on the same schedule I am. That's the other tricksy bit.

@Arkandel @Auspice Ark's right, a bike would make 2 miles be quick as heck and would not cause anywhere near the amount of wear and tear. Walking 2 miles with arthritis is rough... I can't even imagine with fibro and the ligament/tendon issue.

Unfortunately, with current demands on my expenses, I wouldn't be able to afford one until January at the earliest. 😕 And I was thinking about it yesterday - the final stretch of my daily commute is nearly half a mile, wholly uphill. I was never, ever (even as a kid) good at biking uphill. I'd be that dumbass walking her bike up the damn thing.

Last I looked at bikes, even the cheaper ones were still $200~. I've gotten my car options down to $500 down. I should just wait the extra month or two it takes me to save at that point.

I'm not supposed to walk a lot. Or really intensive exercise in general. Light / low-impact is the order of the day. Hooray for fibro and fucked up joints and arthritis. But here I took this job thing that requires (until I get a car) I walk 2 miles a day.

Three days in and today, day 4, I'm going to have to shell out for an Uber. My foot is in rough shape. Like, 'if I don't I'm probably going to urgent care if not the ER over the weekend' bad shape. Cause when I walk/run too much, my calf muscles fuck with the ligaments in my feet. And, well, medical care would cost me more than jus Ubering to work.

This is what I get for being stubborn. I thought the less stress (the position is way less stressful) and $75 more a month would be worth it. I'm really starting to wonder. 3 hours of commuting each day migh've been a shit trade-off.

Been having a really rough week. This feedback on my outline for the fantasy short story (that I have to write this week) has really helped:

'This is really rather beautiful work. Every aspect of the outline is well detailed, well written, thorough, and explicitly interconnected with all the others. The result is a vision of the story world and the people who move through it that almost feels like the summary of a story already written. I especially liked the way you managed to write a fantasy story that, through its engagement with the technological society on the other side, creates a dialogue between the genres themselves - fantasy and SF. That's a really nice touch because it allows you to tell a story that involves the audience on two levels - the fictional and the metafictional. Very cool.'
