Injolnith on HT was the last dragon I impressed/played. And it's gonna take a lot to beat that awesome.

I always enjoyed designing dragons, but I hate descing them. So much. My crafter on Threads (Annika) has a firelizard... and it still has its hatchling desc. I just cannot get my brain in gear to write a proper desc for him. I'm terrible.

      Yeah, yeah. Starting ANOTHER topic.

      alt text

What is your favorite tea? Favorite tea company? Loose leaf or bagged?

Specifically, if you have a loose leaf black tea you like, lemme know! I'm about to just go in and buy my preferred Irish Breakfast, but I thought I'd see if there was anything else I should try along the way. Be adventurous! Branch out!

Awesome! How long until drama-filled threads about dragon colors fill this topic? And then someone will make a gold-of-your-own MUSH!

Weren't these the original drama games? Where people didn't get their dragons and became very angry? And the author Anne McCaffrey had several games that she blessed with her hand?

They were. But this one's aiming to cut down on that. A number of games have. The smaller playerbase in MU*ing has actually been of benefit to Pern games. Honestly, the only really 'limited' color at this point is gold. Recently there was a hatching on... shit, I forget which game. Pern World? Where every PC candidate wanted bronze, so they said 'fuck it. All PC dragons are bronze, the NPCs fill out the rest.'

There may still be drama, but unless Threads suddenly a'splodes with dozens of people clamoring for a gold... I don't see it being any bigger/worse drama than any other game right now.

    • RE: RL Anger

Had a panic attack last night. First in a while, actually. One of those where my brain decided something suddenly that was absolutely terrible and no amount of telling it LOGIC and REASON would get it to calm the fuck down. Full head feeling hot and a touch of vertigo, nausea, and the tightness in my chest shit.

And of course, by putting myself to bed early, I ended up with upsetting dreams, too.

Gotta love when your own brain is working against you.

Hmmm. My very first Mu*, maybe the second, was a Pern game called Dragonsfire.

Dragonsfire was my first! November, '98. I played a Harper because of course. 😉

This tempts me more than I thought Pern MU*s were capable of tempting me at this point. It's been so long that one might be refreshing.

It'd been so long for me, too, and I was a bit hesitant at first... But it's kind of like sitting down with some chips and an old, favorite cartoon. It's nothing stunningly new. It's not going to challenge you. But it's fun and sweet and easy.

I'm a pretty awesome cook and usually don't need recipes/can figure out how to recreate a taste profile most of the time on the first try.

Though I suck at pie crusts. I think baking in general requires more attention to detail/science so that's my weakness!

This is why I prefer baking to cooking. I'm terrible at just throwing things together. But give me a complicated baking recipe and I am in happy-land. Yes I will get out that kitchen scale. You bet I will monitor the temperature and humidity for that dough. 😉

I now own an X-Box 360 controller for my PC.

I played a little Bioshock with it tonight, which is a good example of the reason I got it. In general I prefer the mouse/keyboard but there are some games (shooters, especially) where I don't feel like I'm getting the best experience. It felt much more fluid with a controller, for me at least.

I have an XB1 controller for the same reason. I like the variety. Division, I prefer keyboard/mouse. Rocket League? Controller plz.

    • Threads of Pern

So this may be wildly off the mark for this crowd, but you never know!

There's a new Pern game out there. It's very small at the moment, so plenty of opportunity. Insta-riders are not open at the moment, but that may change. You can app in Crafters from apprentice to master. Setting is shortly before the 4th Pass (Threadfall will begin roughly February of next year) around Fort Hold / Weyr. Fort Hold, Fort Weyr, and the Harper Hall are the IC locations. Characters must be at least 12 (with a preference for 16+ for Impression).

They've relaxed a few things from canon/standard. Transgendered characters are welcome and while there's no surgical procedures, there are essentially herbs/medications that can be taken. Golds and bronzes still do impress to biological gender, but there's no restrictions for the other colors. There's also no sexuality preference for dragons. Wanna be a lesbian goldrider? Go for it. Wanna be a hella straight man with a sassy green? Get on with yourself. Women are seen as equals to men. Individual viewpoints may vary, of course, but overall... Feel free to be flexible in your character.

Search will be really chill, too. You'll just set a flag on yourself. They'll search roughly 2x the PC eggs. If you're not going for a metallic and aren't opting for 'full immersion,' you'll know if you're going to Impress and have an active hand in making your dragon.

I joined because one of the Head Staff is a long-time friend of mine and I know she's both no-nonsense and low drama (aka if you cause issues, she will have no qualms giving you the boot). As I've gotten to know the rest of Staff, I dig them, too.

So, yeah. Pern. Not for everyone, but I figured I'd post because you never know. The game is still very small, still in progress, but we're working on picking things up and a part of that is having more players.

The wiki is still being built, but can be found at: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/
      The game's address: whitestar.spundreams.net 4201

I play Annika (Jman Woodcrafter posted to Fort Hold) and M'kel (Bluerider / Asst. Dragonhealer), so feel free to look me up. 🙂

I'm bored and procrastinating, so... topic time!

      What's your mundane super power(s)?

      Mine are:

      • Can insert the USB correctly on the first try 90% of the time
      • Can fold a fitted sheet

ETA, because I'm in a gif-y mood today:

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

The show not being my speed was my primary reason, but I'm still feeling kinda hurt after 5W and how things turned out with Rozlyn. I really do like playing with these two as players, but I just can't comfortably play 'under' them.

And being involved is awesome. I got pulled into some major metaplot-y foo on Arx yesterday. It came just in time, too. I love my char, but she's not made for noble-ing about a city, so I was feeling a bit directionless.

despite many of the PC's at the time being all for hunting down and raiding the Grounders and wanting revenge or retribution for so and so being captured or hurt by the Grounders.

Really? Because I wasn't around for the Adult PCs/Mountain Men storylines. But I was there for the initial grounder stuff. What I recall is everybody wanting to nut hug the Grounders, and sympathizing and excusing them every step of the way.

I find that to be a common problem on MU*s. People are so afraid to hold to antagonism.

On Arx, my character is married to a foreigner... and has a shav in her employ. I've been really glad for the people that look side-eyed at it and wonder if her head is in the right place. 😉

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

I do agree that Staff should get to play their own characters, but featuring them in the midst of everything... yeahno.

I know a Staffer who I used to praise for keeping their characters more on the sidelines, but over the past few months... they began putting one of their PCs as the lynchpin in scenes more and more. And it's been kind of depressing to see.

When your PC (if you're Staff and especially if you're HeadStaff or the main Plot person) is doing things no one else's can possibly think to do (either by way of skills/stats, plot involvement, etc.)... You may need to take a couple steps back.

And now, to all those that nay-sayed me when I said this is exactly what was going on, and was told I was overreacting and that things were fine and it was just me (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back before Grounder PCs were even allowed!)....

      I TOLD YOU SO!

      Ahhhhhhhhh, that feels better.

It feels good to be so right, doesn't it?

I do have sympathy for the people who stuck around on the game but hopefully this is their opportunity to find something new and wonderful to experience without the dynamic duo nonsense to ruin it.

I've heard good things about Dystopia. Fallcoast is huge and you can probably easily find a clique to play with. Arx seems to be popping and is a safe haven for Firan refugees.

There's plenty of RP opportunities out there for 'The 100' ex-pats.

I play on both Dystopia (Elizabeth) and Arx (Lou) right now and I'm enjoying both. They're a sort of breath of fresh air because neither is a rehashing of the 'same' I've been dealing with for a while.

I like this couple, as people. I like to RP with them. However, I don't think they should run a game. A TT? Sure. ST on a game? Maybe.

Some people just probably shouldn't run a game and married couples shouldn't do so solo / with the one token person to go 'see? we've got someone to keep us balanced.' 😕

I do wish I could chat with people beyond Grayson, but yeh... the Public channel is hella spammy on Arx. Or was before I just gave up and turned it off. There's no way in hell I could even hope to keep up with it.

    • RE: The Cat Thread

Some cats are great solitary. Others do well with company.

Ashes is largely a solitary cat, but I've had her with other cats and not... She's actually more calm when other cats are around. She doesn't always interact with them, but I think having the option (such as her more playful days) and just knowing she's not alone helps.

When I was married, my ex had an older male cat. We ended up (both rescues) with two female kittens. He loved his girls. He would help groom them. Was protective of them. He was too old to really play (they'd try to wrestle and he'd just reach out a paw and pin them down), but he adored having them around.
