      my weighted blanket.

I dunno what it is about my ever-present leg pain that means pressure brings relief, but the pressure from the blanket is one of the only things I know (besides strong drugs) that helps. Makes getting into bed at night p awesome.

      I want pho.

      That is all.

Not enough upvotes. Pho is so good. now I want it too.

Even tho it's only in the 50s/60s here, this crisp fall-like weather is perfect for pho.

Kinda feel like I need pho right now

Pho is perfect chilly weather food.

If you have only 1-2 days a week you can RP and you know Bob over there, RPing daily, is hitting the XP cap every week and people are making it really obvious ('yeah you'll need like, 20 dice to be able to manage this PRP') that you NEED MORE XP......

chances are yes, you're gonna be picky about going out to RP. You won't want to just do 'another bar/coffee shop/bookstore run-in' - you're gonna want things with more meat to them, particularly ones that can net you XP.

not everyone can just run out and RP for hours every day. Some of us can only get RP in on weekends.

I have to disagree that aspirations encourage RP. I think they actually discourage it.

It's more work, for one. You don't just organically RP and earn XP. If your scene pings an aspiration, then you need to submit code to fulfill it and submit code to claim another.

And that if is a big factor, too. If your aspirations are 'meet someone new' and 'get into a fight' and the only RP being offered is from people your PC already knows to hang out and drink coffee....... well, you're just gonna sit OOC until one of the 'net gain' options comes along, right?

So I think that it actually causes additional barriers to RP. Long-term asps are fine and I think smart ones, milled over time for XP ('Cruac to 5' - get a bump every time you buy a new dot in Cruac, RP a scene learning it/about it, etc.) are perfect. But short-terms, I think, cause this scenario in which people feel they absolutely must achieve one every scene to keep up with the XP overachievers and so they sit around waiting for scenes they know they can achieve one or two in a fell swoop.

How would you propose to handle situations wherein someone was uncomfortable and too scared to even use the command, but once they finally do, they express that they want to retcon the entire scene?

tbh, for casual RP between two players? I wouldn't want any sort of special commands.

We're adults. I'd like to treat my players as adults who can communicate between one another what they're comfortable with.

To pull the conversation back to where we started, though, I thought we were mulling over commands that may assist people in communicating the breach or existence of a personal boundary.

I will admit to being lackadaisical in following this discussion.

Call me uncaring but I think if we need an entire structure of commands to negate communication then we're fostering an environment of distrust vs care.

Relying on commands to tell someone if you want to proceed with rp or not basically signals that you don't trust them enough to have a conversation in which case.....why rp with them to begin with?

I'm as anxious as they come. IRL I find it hard to even speak up sometimes. I will hover at the edges of conversation at a party I want to leave for an hour just hoping the host notices me so that I can say farewell....because I'm both too afraid to interrupt and to be seen as rude if I just leave.

I am one of the most shy people ever IRL

Once I relax around you, sure, I'm really outgoing. But around people I don't know / don't know well? Nope.

If I can have conversations and communicate with people, I have every confidence everyone else can, too. If it's someone I feel unsafe communicating with... I reach out to a friend for advice and/or don't interact with that person.

But considering a lot of this has surrounded 'input your consent to TS' type stuff... Holy shit people that is something you need to be comfortable talking about. You are gonna invite ten times more drama, avoidance, and other issues if you become someone who can't even say 'I prefer ftb' or 'I'd like to rp this out'.

Make an opt-in. Make people running scenes, plots, writing shit for the game, etc., label their stuff clearly.

What's the default level of play?

If you have an opt-in, there has to be some expectation of baseline play. What is that baseline? What if baseline RP naturally progresses into a kind of RP that requires an opt-in, but the players involved forget about using the right command and barrel on in?

tbh, for casual RP between two players? I wouldn't want any sort of special commands.

We're adults. I'd like to treat my players as adults who can communicate between one another what they're comfortable with.

'Hey this scene is going towards TS and I prefer FTB. Can we fast forward to the morning after?'
      vs
oh before they pose again lemme trigger the opt-in command and make sure I put NO ...

      Yeesh.

Most of what I view for this sort of thing are PRPs, events, etc. Things wherein you're going to have a larger group and there's a certain level of non-consent-based RP going on (even on consent games, an ST'd scene removes some level of full agency for the sake of storytelling).

But, I believe opt-in begins at creation, at 'ACCEPT' (if your game has such a stage). Lay out what your game is about, the 'rating' it may have, the sort of things people can expect to run into.

@Ghost said in Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries:

Opt-in is a great idea, but it only works under the assumption that players will accept being left out of scenes that they dont opt-into. RP on a MU isnt an entitlement. You can make the argument that in a perfect world everyone is welcoming and wants everyone' input, but the reality is that some games/scenes just aren't what a particular player is looking for and it isnt everyone else's responsibility to change for them.

Honestly, opt-in is how it should be. It's why I always put warnings on my +events if there might be triggering topics. It's how I feel games, scenes, spheres- whatever! should be.

You make the choice to walk in through the door.

Opt-out is a whole other bag and it's a negative vs a positive.

Opt-in is the positive: 'we're all here to engage in the same thing, yay!'

Opt-out is the negative: 'I have decided I don't like this and I want everyone else to stop and cater to me.'

And most of our 'errrrrrrr-' uncertainties center around the opt-out options. X-card-type deals, reporting, etc. Because they can be abused. They can be manipulative. And they cut into that all-important thing: fun. They turn entire games into being about 'my fun' vs 'our fun'

whereas opt-in can be both my and our fun.

If I swan into a scene and part-way through decide I don't like that the demon is attacking my character and it makes her seem like a victim and Suzie Glitterpunch is NOT A VICTIM, I just throw down the opt-out and.......... oh. ST has to change things. Other players have to change things. And then everyone wars with: is she opting out because it's truly triggering? Is she opting out because she felt like she was losing? Is she opting out because she didn't like the way the scene was going?

We fuss and worry over what might get people whispering and it's opt-outs. Because yes, they should be no questions asked, but: people are always gonna wonder. Because there's a whole spectrum of stuff that can trigger someone and some of it is surprisingly tame. And just like there's OMG EVIL NEFARIOUS STAFFERS LURKING AROUND EVERY CORNER .... there's also abusive players who have it in their head that their PCs can do no wrong, can never lose, and must always be seen in a positive light. hell I've encountered more of those than I have evil Staffers.

So my vote, for any proposals, any systems, any whatever: opt-in. Make it player choice/agency as to whether they want to join something and once they're in, they're in. And before the 'but what if something happens that wasn't on the-' Then that's a whole other bag of tricks. That's completely different. That's the same as if a plot is labeled 'Low Risk' and you go in and find out it's 'High Risk, Probable Death' partway through. That's on the ST, that's viable reason to call an all-stop and have a discussion or just fucking leave.

Make an opt-in. Make people running scenes, plots, writing shit for the game, etc., label their stuff clearly.

Two weeks ago, in a meeting to discuss the training materials:

Me: 'Do we need a section on the downstream reports? If so, I need copies of example reports and details on what you want in the guide.'
Them: 'We won't be including those at all since they're separate from the tool.'

Catching up on emails today, I'm going through one with a bunch of line items on questions re: the materials (have these edits been made, this needs to be added, where is.... etc.).
      Final line item:
'Where is the section on the downstream reports?'

One of the really sweet things about my job is that people will find food things they think would be good for someone else. Most commonly people with dietary restrictions (we are all conditioned to look for kosher stuff for my one teammate, for example!). You find it, you leave it on that person's desk.

Today's the first time I've come in to find something on mine: honey pops. I assume since I've been sick, but still a super sweet gesture and one I really appreciate. ❤

@Auspice I just spent about $50 on needles, stitch markers and other knitting supplies and it's entirely your fault.

      GOOD.

Well I was just stopped from going out and buying more yarn by an order arriving days early.
Since the stuff I bought ISN'T ENOUGH, I was like 'oh god I'll need to buy YET MORE' (and it was already option #2) but it looks like I can go back to option #1 and uh..... bright green sparkle scarf will just have to find another use once I can buy the rest of the yarn for it.

That's four days in the past week lost to the flu. But today I woke up, then passed back out for over three hours for feversleep.

Checked in on email to let work know and they have stuff scheduled for tomorrow to get a full status update on my project.

That's....gonna be....fun to go back to. (In a way that's not fun at all.)
