People who insist that 2020 isn't the start of a new decade.
Being pedantic and obnoxious is one thing; I generally approve of it. Being pedantic and obnoxious and wrong because you learned a pedantic obnoxious fact twenty years ago and are trying to trot it out where it doesn't apply is inexcusable.
but if they're wrong isn't 2020 the year they should see clearly?

super well-thought out
Haha, I was scrambling for prizes like twenty minutes before it started and thought I came up with shitty last minute things. But everyone loved them! I was most shocked that the book I threw together, which I was certain would be one of those things where someone just ended up with it rather than picking it, was chosen by the second place person. Whew!
I hope you do another sometime. I like scavenger hunts and wanted to check it out, but I was too flu-y to do anything other than sit and chat (and barely even that) last night.

@Cobaltasaurus @surreality Yeah, I was wondering too, 'cause it was the other one I specifically reported but it did include essentially 'maybe I'm old but this looks like a kid to me' and 'just hide those things from people working' happening sometime after that left me kind of uncertain. (The other one made me go wtf uncomfortably too but I honestly wasn't sure I wasn't just missing some reference.) If the flagging system isn't working right, that probably needs fixing.
Last I was an admin, the flag system was not notifying the admins and we had to manually go in and check those notifications.
I had hopes nodebb had fixed that bug by now but it sounds like maybe no.
So people may need to directly DM the admin team for issues.

Managed to get to work today (despite doctor's note to stay out until the 12th: I simply cannot afford it because as noted previously, I am a contractor and unlike employees am not salary and do not have PTO)....... sort of wish I hadn't.
Chills and body aches kicked in on the way here.
But unlike Miss Employee last week, I'm wearing one of those face mask things. I'm also probably past the contagious stage but damnit. Gonna be polite.
I def overdid it yesterday.
Staying home today.Fuck this flu.
Send chicken soup vibes.
sends Nyquil vibes instead
Also: Don't you work in software development? Can't you do that remotely?
Contractor.
Only some of us get VPN access. I did not

@buttercup absolutely.
I, 100%, would want to know if there is a potential pedophile on my site so I could get rid of them. I would not want that risk on my server. EVER. Because it's not just on them if something happens. I could be held liable, too (since servers have logs, after all).

Just up the amount of weekly XP to 2 and get rid of short-terms, IMO. Increase beats earned for PRPs, encourage people to use conditions more. But get rid of short-term asps.
2xp a week is a ludicrously high amount for a 2E game. You will get ridiculous monsters very fast, because people will figure out how to hit it every. Single. Time.
I speak from experience. You will hate yourself if you make that your standard. You really want it to go slower.
And yet, on most games, people making full use of short-terms (as 'recommended') will be earning 2XP per week.

@Livia Yeah. Maybe cap them at... completing one aspiration a week? That way you can get 1/5 of an XP once a week.
We went with 'cap overall xp from any source'. Personally, I think Aspirations are good. Nobody ever bothers with Conditions anyway so it's not like that's a huge drag. But Aspirations give you something to strive, and let you drive your own story forward without having to wait on staff to run shit for you.
You take those away, and you're just making more work for yourself in the long run, as players get bored that there is nothing for them to do and not enough plot but they're too busy to run PrPs…
That's a choice you want to make very carefully.
I hate short term aspirations. Every time I've done 2e character gen coming up with 'aspirations' in the system has always been my stumbling point. And then I get people telling me I should be completing 3-4 short term asps per WEEK and I'm wondering if I ever have time for anything else.
This is where I am and I really do feel there's two camps.
I feel like short-term asps reward people who can RP more frequently as opposed to those that can't. Particularly those that can RP more frequently while coming up with all those weird dorky ideas like 'Wave at someone!' 'Sip coffee' 'See a new face'
I feel short-term asps are one of those things that work in TT but not in MU.

Put me down as a rescue agent. Or if there's an odd number of people, I'll give a card to the person left out. Do I still need to fill out the form? (I'm not interested in getting a gift. Gasp!)
I'll keep you in mind for that and reach out if it's necessary. Thank you!
A lot of us don't have family or friends around to do anything with this year. Or we want to be able to do more than we have opportunity IRL.
Perhaps both.
I mulled over a few ways to do it and I figured this was the best option.
Thus I have a Google Form here for participation.
All gifts will be in the form of gift cards. Maximum dollar amount of $30. If you go over, no one but your recipient will know. I've asked for volunteers to be 'rescue agents' in case someone doesn't pull through and give their gift. Since it's egift cards, you can do everything through a brand new email address and never need worry about giving out any personal info.
I will be vetting sign ups. If you've never posted on the forums, if you're a brand new account, if you're a suspected troll: I won't be accepting your entry. In any of these cases, I'll be sending a message to the admins to let them know so people can check in.
Sign ups are due by December 15th at 11:59 (2359) CST. That's a week. Then I'll run the matching and get details out to everyone by the 18th. I ask that you try to send your gifts by Christmas Day, but preferably sooner. Anyone who hasn't received by New Years, I'll start reaching out to people who have offered to be rescue agents to step in and give gifts.
I know this may be a freaky, scary, weird idea to some... but hey. Maybe we can spread some cheer around to those that wouldn't otherwise get to have much of a holiday
And for anyone who doesn't trust me: literally all I'm collecting (as visible on the form) is your forum username, an email address you're comfortable with sharing, and details to give to your santa (such as what type of gift cards and whether or not you're willing to have the secret spoiled if they wanna contact you).
The #1 takeaway, IMO:
Some kids only need a 'hey champ, if you ever need to talk about anything you see online, lemme know'
Other kids need the computer in the public room and close monitoring.
Only their parent will know which is best for their child.
15-year-old RPing vampire sex with another 15-year old: OK
15-year-old RPing vampire sex with a 45-year-old: Not OK
Educating your child on how to tell the difference and to feel safe and comfortable coming to you if the latter scenario happens: GOOD.
Being a major court case waiting to happen while trying to insist the latter is the child's fault and parents need to be OK with it: NOT GOOD.
