Superhero games, playing a female char is basically like walking onto Shang with kink flags of 'ANYTHING GOES' it feels like.

When I played a female superhero, I didn't get propositioned once.

      that's not how this works

      Like, c'mon, man.

Did you play or did you RP all of twice before disappearing into the sunset.

Someone did make a remark to me that superhero places were even more sex crazed than WoD

      they are, 100%.

I can go 6+ months on a WoD place without having my PC ever get hit on.

Whoa whoa. Watch that use of all. I kinda prefer My Cousin Vinnie or The Wrestler Marisa Tomei.

LOOK WE ALL WANT TO DO BEDROOM STUFF TO MARISA TOMEI

      BETTER?!

Technically "not in the bedroom" could be a preference sooooo

I didn't feel great last night. The 'feel like I'm coming down with something' had only increased throughout the day and I went Welp. Gonna email work and tell them I won't be in.

Felt a little bad doing it before I even went to bed, but followed gut instinct.

Here it is, noon, and I'm not even able to sit upright. I'm typing this lying down.

      Yaaaaaaaaaay.

Time to try to drag myself to the kitchen to make tea to at least sooth my throat.

Is it just me or do you automatically suspect anyone playing a wraith/mage leans towards stalker/creep?
Has that been your experience as well?
Have I just had bad luck and ran into the worst people?

I've never played anywhere with wraith so I can't say.

As for mage I tend to lean towards twink rather than creep. Mages seem quicker to take advantage of people who don't have a strong grasp of the rules.

      LARP houses happen.

These share all the qualities of a cult.

      Isolation.
      Take over the person's life.
      Dictate how they live.
Keep things unstable so the cult is both the victim's only source of comfort and a constant source of pain to need that comfort.
Create a social group that pressures them to conform and never to leave.

Sounds like a LARP house is a good way to become the king of your own tiny kingdom.

Well, there is the tale of the Final Fantasy House....

@Auspice Yeah, if 'work from home' is a freely available option and they're sick, that's just stupid on so many fronts I can't even begin to describe it.

Staying home to recover while working would be better for them AND everyone else.

Exactly. A few people on my team do it regularly cause you can dial in to meetings, too. One guy was 'gone' a whole week while moving because it was easier for him to work from home and just dial in to meetings while getting his move done. (ETA: Another did it for a few days in October while his kids were sick! Again, nbd! We just ribbed him a bit when he'd be unmuted and we'd hear kids squealing in the background.)
No one batted an eye. The company is perfectly fine with this.

So long as you get your work done and 'show up' (even if dialing in) to meetings, no one's gonna come down on you.

Us contractors don't have that luxury. If we aren't here, we don't get paid. So yes, I am gonna be pissy when someone who DOES have that luxury is here sneezing and coughing and telling everyone how she has the flu and she's soooooo sick but-

lady, come in, grab your laptop, and go home for the week. Don't sit five feet from me with that.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

I think part of why it upsets me with my job in particular is that most of these people are salary / can work from home.

They won't lose money. And they're encouraged to 'go home and feel better or at least work from home.'

The contractors around the office, like me? Do not get PTO unless we've been here at least a year (most of us have not). So the people who come in to work sick (and don't at least work from home?) are just negatively impacting us. Who aren't salary. And can't work from home.

      So yes.
      I'm gonna be annoyed.
Because I've felt worse as the day goes, I'm gonna go home and probably crawl into bed or at least wrap up in my blanket with a huge mug of tea.
And I'll be lucky if I can come in tomorrow.

    • RE: The Work Thread

      OK.
      Rant time again.

Being a professional writer is hard in a specific way.

I love it, but one thing is: people don't understand the 'creativity' requirement.

Many jobs are just sort of: get the work done did.

And I'm not negating the difficulty of said work. I've worked in various aspects of IT (help desk, sys admin, network admin). Even just 'data entry' levels of these can be grueling. The thing is, however, it's still often just 'buckle down and get it done.'

Writing, such as content creation and documentation has a creative component to it.

'Take this task, within this tool, and develop the best approach to walking a user how to achieve it.'

Esp. when you tack on creative the graphical elements.

Some days it might seem like I'm not getting a lot done, but I have on one of my screens a draft I've been writing/rewriting all day because it just won't gel. Because I need to keep stepping away until it 'clicks.'

Which makes it hard when a boss comes in and is like 'why isn't this done' in that 'Why is everyone else on my team able to get things done quickly and you can't?!' tone of voice (while everyone else's jobs are 'assemble this data into a presentation' or 'insert this data into a spreadsheet' or 'call these people').

      I'm sorry.
      Creativity isn't always 'on tap.'
The first draft is not always the last draft.
Some days what I write first gets scrapped completely (happened today) and I have to start over.

I love what I do, but I hate the effort in getting others to understand.

If people come in sick, I'm usually quicker to blame the company. Do they give adequate sick time? Does the culture encourage or discourage people taking time when appropriate? These are usually the big factors for people being trained to power through stuff like this.

      tl;dr blame capitalism

WF actually encourages people to go and take care of themselves.
      Many don't because workaholics.

A few weeks ago I felt miserable. Like a couple hours after getting in I began feeling really really off. So walking from one meeting to another I looked at my coworkers and was like 'hey after this meeting im gonna go' and they went 'Why? Just go now. There's nothing important enough that we can't email you.'

Ive never before had a company so encourage people to take care of themselves and most everyone can work from home if they need to get stuff done that desperately.

It would be nice to never have to come in sick. I would never, ever do it if I had my way. Pretty sure that is fairly universal.

I mean I think there's levels of sick and she was v. sick. 😕
