Woke up sick.

People, this is why you don't go to work sick. I'm p sure this is the fault of the lady who sits across from me and has been hella sick the past couple days.

TL;DR: I don't mind Ares' way of constructing scenes.

I prefer them because of my limited hours. Most of my RP takes multiple days to complete because I don't sit down to RP until 7 or 8pm most nights and I start feeling zzzzzzz between 9 and 10pm. That's a pretty narrow window to play!

So outside of weekends...... a good, really gritty scene might take a few days to finish! So Ares scenes are GOOD for this. And if you don't want someone dropping in going 'ugh why has no one posed in 12 hours, geez' well.... it's gotta be private.

I am pro-this model. It's beneficial for folks like me. BUT. I do get why it's not for everyone!

I think the bigger Ares games are much more flexible for folks. Like Grey Harbor!

However.....you should look up subreddits like RandomActsofAmazon.

It might have gone downhill but like, 5? years ago it was full of really lovely fun people just buying fun little gifts for people and it has tons of related subreddits.

Continuity in scenes is such a big deal to me.

MAYBE LILY WANTS TO SAVE HERSELF but noooooo he's first in initiative and this isn't D&D where travel distance is a thing so no one else is saying anything but damn if it doesn't throw me out of the scene because my mental map of where people are is aaaaaaaaaaall fucked up now.'

I got my reddit Santa Gift person!!!! I've been shopping since yesterday. I'm SO EXCITED to send a gift to someone and I wouldn't have been able to if you didn't tell me about it!!

On a sad note, I missed ornaments and cards. I've never used reddit (don't lynch me bro), is there a way to set up something to alert me when there are new gift exchanges?

Are there more coming? I need more Christmas/Random Gift Giving in my life.

I'm not doing their secret Santa this year cause I'm doing imgur's.

'Purely IC' is a definition that expands a bit beyond 'this was in a pose/emit' vs this was <OOC> text/page.' OOC can and very often does bleed into poses, and there's nothing wrong with applying our experience and human judgment to these things (and in fact it's a bit willfully oblivious not to). We do it easily for the 'obviously butthurt snarky metapose' shit, and I tend to find that OOC-creepery in posed/emitted form is just as obvious and cringe. We engage with one of these pretty aggressively, so leaving out the other is clearly a bit of a willful blind-spot.
Now, some percentage of creepery may slip through from much more skillful writers/manipulators but I think most of this is going to be under the public radar vs. something 3rd parties are casual witnesses to. Most of the serial, problematic, frequent creeps are kind of shit and easy to pick out, and it's fine to narrow in on that behavior sooner rather than later.

I was one of those who made that point and that was, largely, the purpose of this thread.

What I witnessed (and I don't want to go back through logs and find it just so everyone can nitpick over it because that scenario was not the point of this, but the concept of it was) flagged for this reason.

It wasn't 'oh hey this person is being an IC creep' it was 'these poses feel manipulative and like they are forcing a specific response' - in, yes, a similar vein as 'metapose snark' is trying to specifically target someone without 'allowing' a response.

Sure, it MIGHT just be IC and it MIGHT be someone who is just bad at writing out the way the character is. But in reading it, I felt 'woah, this person is trying to force a specific response out of this other individual and that feels grody and weird to me: if I was on the receiving end, I'd be booking it.'

So I think, in the future, I probably will do a quick, polite page to make sure the recipient is OK.

My first like, 9? 10? months of playing Teagan were kinda tumultuous. The first while was just this sort of struggle of figuring out the 'how' of it. I mean, no, it wasn't my first time on Arx but when I played Lou was right at the beginning in Alpha. Things were very different when I picked up Teagan and the learning curve was hard.

And then RL got messy at the beginning of this year with job loss and a job with shitty hours and then new job and...

...then there was the really miserable-making Gaston that nearly drove me to quit the game. Like, it sucked. Bad. I love playing Teagan, but I dreaded even logging in for fear he'd be online.

But the past month-ish? Everything has gelled. I've had some amazing RP. Things are coming together on my character. I'm working with the new Gaston on stuff for Blackram that has me really excited. Like, I feel good about things.

It's nothing so extreme for me. I mean, yes, I feel insanely lonely. I usually do this time of year. I want to love the holidays, but being largely estranged from family (my mom sends me something small each year but has to sort of sneak it to me and I appreciate it, but by and far I will have nothing to do with my family so long as they continue to support/enable my addict brother and his tendency to issue death threats to me) leaves me........ empty. I don't have enough local friends to really feel.... anything. Like, people keep giving me this whole 'omg you poor thing moving so close to Christmas'

....look, it gives me something to DO. I'll prob spend Christmas Eve/Day packing. Instead of being at home desperately searching for RP online.

And speaking of moving:
I have no idea where I'm moving yet. I keep telling myself that finding a place within my budget shouldn't be hard and there's probably tons of move-in specials to make affording it easier (since I blew through ALL my savings while sick / car issues in October/November), but it's still stressful to have to move in a little over 3 weeks and not know WHERE.

But the biggest worry is.... my contract is up on January 10th. I might not have a job. I might move and less than 2 weeks later be out of work. I need to clean up my resume and start job hunting, but I can't find the willpower to do it and then I beat myself up for not doing it and then I get depressed for not doing it and then I get anxious for getting closer to my deadline and then I beat myself up for.....

So seasonal depression plus stress plus loneliness plus anxiety plus oh yeah I've been off my meds for a week cause rent meant I couldn't afford them (I'll pick 'em up when I get paid tomorrow).

I haven't slept much in days.

It'll be better once I'm back on my meds.
It'll be better once I move.

But sometimes I wish I wasn't so physical contact adverse cause I could use a hug. (or someone to get a hug from, ha!)

Reviewing the feedback from users for the training guide.

Feedback: 'Not clear where preferrred Distribution is located'

I go to look at the guide because I swear to god that is define-

Not only is it defined in the section named after the location it's in in the tool (which is, btw, 'Distribution'), but it's the very first thing one sees. aka, you open that section in the guide and the first sentence is 'One way to quickly populate the same preferred distributor.....'

BUT....

I show two ways to do it.

I don't think this lady read the guide at all and just gave us a ton of 'feedback' based on her own floundering.

I really fucking liked 1917.

Like, I've been looking forward to it for a while (which is why I was thrilled to get sneak preview passes!), but man. It was better than I thought it'd be. It was really, really good. Good story. Good pacing. Beautiful cinematography. Highly recommend. It comes out (limited release) Christmas Day, so if you're a Christmas Day moviegoer, I absolutely recommend it.
