      @gryphter

A few nights ago, driving home, I get to my apartment complex to see people double-parked on either side of the aisle. There was just barely enough room for me to carefully navigate my car (a Fiat 500, so tiny) through.

As I was finishing pulling through, an ambulance came bouncing into the complex: sirens and lights on.

I cannot imagine the shitshow that must have followed.

And sad to say, this is very very common there. @Admiral can attest from when he used to live in the same complex.

I have an RL friend who I've kept in touch with since high school (we live in different states, no longer have any other friends in common) that has gone radio silent.

End of September, we were texting still on a regular basis. Not daily, but every few days at least. Then nothing. Messaged a couple times in October. Messaged a couple times this month.

      No replies.

There have been no arguments. Our last convo was just catching up, talking about our jobs: the usual. Like, zero reason that I know of for the lack of communication.

It makes me really afraid something happened to them.

A section of this training guide that had been 'backburnered' got shoved to the forefront today and I dug through OneNote to start gathering my notes on it and discovered I already wrote an entire outline for the section at some point.

      THANKS PAST SELF.

@Auspice You get into the space as quickly as you can, and when the queue is gone you fix yourself up. Duh.

North American drivers can't park worth a damn.

      Fite me.

No, it's fucking true and it's annoying as shit.
I remember the time I saw a Ford F-150 driver parallel park smooth as butter and wish I'd been able to take a video.

That man was and still is the only person that deserves to drive a huge truck. I can't even parallel park my tiny car as well as he parked that behemoth.

ETA: I used to be able to parallel park really well, back when I was driving to 3-4 sites in Washington DC a day in a minivan (hauling equipment to schools). I lost the ability while living in regions where I only parallel parked once or twice a year.

If you have a line of cars waiting behind you in the aisle in the parking lot and decide to waste a few minutes awkwardly backing into a space: there is a special place waiting for you in hell.

I barely play board games anymore, sad to say. I have a stack of Kickstarter games I haven't played yet....with another on the way. I just don't have a group and when I go to the Lady Geeks nights, it has become largely 'hang out and do crafts plus maybe some casual light hearted card games' which I won't fault them for. It's what they all wanna do.

The board gamers meet on Wednesdays, but I just keep finding I am too tired to go. I need a Friday or Saturday night group.

Or online group. I've dabbled with some of the online ones....In solo modes. I'm so hermit I hermit online.

    • Why don't we have a general board game thread anyway?

Because SOME PEOPLE can't handle a TANGENT.

it's like we aren't a forum or something.

Anyway, board game discussion here. Where @Livia can go on about these 18xx games. 😄

What has everyone played most recently?

I'd preeeeefeeeeeer not? Like, the PURIST in me wants to say no, but I'd also rather partial words not be yanked out also.

BUT. I also get that sometimes you just can't find a song.

(Tho if you can't find a song with 'men' I GOTS A CONCERN FREN)

re: Kushiel games, the two I've played I played characters that weren't really into the sex for IC reasons. I got just about zero RP as a result. And on one game, Staff outright told me it was my own fault for not being TS-able. So yeah, you made the right call IMO.

      Agreed with @Tinuviel.

There's a reason I have people I trust to rp relationships with. I know (a) the RP will be good and (b) things like OOC boundaries will be trusted.

    • RE: [NOW OPEN] Titanic Two-Tone Tales: Noir (Take 2)

Been checking this place out and gotta say, the people I've played with so far have been friendly, engaging, and happy to engage in hijinks.

It does take some effort at times to remember 'AU dieselpunk 1930s' when RPing, but I'm sure I'll get to where it's easier.

Only real feedback at this stage is: website needs more details / default Ares imagery replaced, but I know @Mr-Johnson is learning Ares as he goes and it'll get there.

I study stoicism. Partly because it fascinates me, partly because the writings of one of the modern stoics, Ryan Holiday, really helped me through a particularly hard time in my life (which is why I was so happy to attend a talk/signing and even be given a coin by him recently).

There's a recent interview on his site by Ada Palmer, a historian and stoic herself. Also, a woman who deals with chronic illness. And she uses her own practice of stoicism to deal with the pain and how she frames it really touched on a few important points for me today in where I'm at in my own studies. So I wanted to share it in case it helped anyone else: https://dailystoic.com/ada-palmer-interview/

She even uses a board gaming reference to explain how she's actively used reframing in her own life.

After witnessing a very pretty, very happy dog come trotting off the elevator with his mom, a toy held proudly in his mouth...

My coworker goes off following: "I think I can pet a dog first thing in the morning."

I love that my job allows dogs. It's the happiest most therapeutic thing, I swear.

    • Favorite Wallpaper Collections?

I know me and someone (@Sparks I think it was!) sidebar'd a bit in a thread a while back about our wallpaper collections...

but as Halloween has ended and I need a new background at work, I wanna find out: where do you go for wallpaper? Do you do thematic/seasonal ones? Or do you just have a rotation?

Share with me! Help me find something appropriately autumnal for my work machine!
