Whoops. for some reason (I guess because the newsfile for books mentions V20), I thought Vamp was there.

Looks like I'm going to dig out Changeling the Dreaming and try to read through it.

Does anyone know how the Vampire sphere is on here? It's the only OWoD game I know really well.

But if someone is willing to help with Dreaming stuff I'm interested in possibly joining up (I know a little, but not as much as Masquerade). In fact, if someone is willing to help out with a potential 'new guy who realized he was Fae' or somesuch, that'd be probably a good hook for me (also, can I skip being a Childling and realize my fae nature as a late-teen? Pretty please?)

I have... no idea which one of these is my Steam name. It's either kycub or elmerg. I don't have much multiplayer (just Starbound). Any suggestions on good/cheap multiplayer games an older computer could run (2ghz processor, 3g ram)?

If I felt I could RP a Sabbat vampire beyond 'woo roll in the intestines! WOOO!!!!!' I might app. I can't honestly come up with a concept I like for Sabbat, really.

God, all this talk of Sailormoon makes me want to do a Sailormoon Universe OTT game.

That might be what the guy was talking about then. He mentioned it for like a line on a thread elsewhere then never posted again.

The premise is 'the guys are all magical knights from a parallel world, and Himeno is the Prétear destined to fight and defeat the Princess of Disaster, who is absorbing all life in both worlds'. The knights combine with her to give her powers, and a cool costume, based on their elements.

I've heard good things of Yona of the Dawn. I'll dig around in my Big Box o Anime and see if I can find some other thoughts about some good Magical Girl anime or manga to look into. Though ones that immediately pop to mind are Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Tokyo Mew Mew).

Right now all I'm watching is Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, Gundam Build Fighters Try. Since I'm dropping Crystal and got real bored with Log Horizon 2. I'll give some of those a look-see to see if they fit my interests.

This pic is of the Prétear main cast, BTW:
      Pretear

And just going through my list of stuff you might like (and be aware, some of it may be older, like 90s):

      • Revolutionary Girl Utena
      • Kaleido Star
      • Martian Successor Nadesico
      • Generator Gawl
      • Sakura Wars
      • Vampire Princess Miyu
      • Street Fighter II anime movie (English dub is really good and they have a boss soundtrack)
      • Romeo x Juliet
      • Tenchi Muyo!
      • Robot Hunter Casshan (the 90s OVA is good, and Casshern SINS is a modern remake that's good).
      • Robot Carnival (lots of shorts, but some really awesome and pretty ones)

Those are ones I've liked before, you might like.

Magical Obfuscation is how I always explained it (though in the SM manga, it's notable that they can recognize and do get recognized).

This wasn't a thing in older magical girl series, where people actively changed forms (since many magical girl stuff at that time was social/magical, and it was a little girl turning into an adult or a teen).

On that note? Have you ever read or watched The New Legend of Snow White: Prétear? I'd recommend reading the manga, as it makes more sense than the anime (but if you like 90's anime pretty boys, watch the anime).

It's really just something that jumped out at me as a glaring error, but I'm very much a 'things are in motion... why, that's weird and WRONG'. I like that they aren't expanding on the R arc so far (maybe a LIIITLE on Asanuma, but not much), unlike the Shiten'ou exposition in the first season. I really don't want a repeat of that hype train getting derailed like the Shiten'ou did.

    • Game Advice

I figured, with the lot of us here, we have lots of advice for newbies who might be interested in getting into some of our favorite themes. I was going to write one about WoD, and Vampire in particular. While I was writing it, I actually was linked to one that I'm going to post here, regarding vampire social setup and stratification.

      http://www.reddit.com/r/WhiteWolfRPG/comments/2nfull/vtm_camarilla_the_politics_game/cmdbhko

Figured those looking to get into vampire might find it a useful read about politics.

Anyone else got any cool thoughts?

    • RE: A New Golden Age?

I think it all comes down to interest and branching out in the hobby. As games of one genre die, the people there move to games of other genre (as evidenced by the Firan exodus to TR when Firan died).

It also comes a lot from people sharing code; that's something that, in my MU* experience, didn't get done a lot (you could look at each Transformers MU* I was on in the stone age, and everyone had a different set of systems because noone would be willing to share code).

Coupled with interesting themes and concepts and ideas, as well as good mechanics (NWoD2), and good coders to make those mechanics simple on MU*, things are doing much better than they would be. Honestly, this mentality is spreading out to other areas as well (there are two new TF MU*s that are opened/opening, both sharing code and going about it in a 'community' manner that I have never seen among anything but what I see/hear about the WoD game community.)

I'm hoping to do this with at least some of the code I'm doing for TheatreMUSH (or even the whole database, depending on if I get a wild hair to add dice into the code).

You'll like it a lot. It also reminded me a little of, if you've seen it, Ever After (another Cinderella live-action, with Drew Barrymore). Which was fine, it's one of my favorite movies.

Not specifically related, but someone elsewhere mentioned that City of Hope closed and then immediately 'forked' with the same staff. I couldn't find any kind of closing notes or anything though.

    • Good or New Movies Review

So for my partner's belated birthday, we went to the movies yesterday and saw Cinderella.

I really liked it. I felt it kept the spirit of the original (including the mice without humanizing them more than their squeaks being able to be interpreted), but added backstory (which it needed). The main actress was pretty and filled the role nicely, the Prince was more than just 'AND I AM THE PRINCE' and Cate Blanchett is fabulous as Lady Tremaine. I was also surprised that Helena Bonham Carter didn't fuck up being the Fairy Godmother. If you like costume porn, this is a movie for costume porn.

Be aware, every outfit Drisella and Anastasia wear will make your eyes bleed, however.

I've sworn off Sailormoon Crystal. As much as I like it (and as much as she is not annoying since they are using the manga version of events), the most recent episode had an extremely unforgivable animation issue, enough to make me go 'WHAT THE FUCK TOEI'.

! They had Sailormoon attack and they used, completely reused, an animation short of her doing Moon Healing Escalation. This would be fine, but they DIDN'T EVEN EDIT THE MOON STICK TO BE THE CUTIE MOON ROD.

      Lazy-ass animation team.

Yes, that too. But that takes a back seat to zany hijinks. There is a little... well, maybe a little risque stuff in some worlds (mostly like, the panty goblin thing), so be aware.

Let's see. Things I would have liked, or did like, around that age...

      • If he likes the *mon-style stuff, the most recent series of Yugioh is pretty good (Yugioh CCG fare + interdimensional war).
      • Magic Knights Rayearth, an oldie-but-goodie with magical girls in a fantasy land with giant robots
      • Cardfight Vanguard - A more (at least at first) slice-of-life/school drama + CCG playing, that in later seasons ramps up to YGO-style shenanigans.
      • Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic - A play on the 1000 Arabian Nights, with shounen magic action and a fun world. Can be a little bloody but not on the level of, say, Parasyte. Also great for older watchers who like TTRPGs, as it really is a D&D or other campaign animated in not-Arabia, not-China, not-Rome, etc.
      • Cardcaptor Sakura - fun romp of magical girl and cool magical cards and costumes
      • Little Nemo in Slumberland - A movie, but based on the comic strip. Good animation.
      • Angelic Layer - mind-driven doll fighting tournament
      • Avengers Disk Wars - Avengers sealed into supervillain containment disks, able to be released to fight by Japanese kids (not as bad as it sounds)
      • Monster Rancher
      • Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi - kinda crazy, about kids from Osaka world-hopping

Am I the ONLY person who hated Madoka?

      @Zarkon
On the note of Clannad? AIR, from the same studio. My friends and I call it the soul test because of the emotions at the end.

Most of these are OVA, but some classics and oldies...

      • Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express
      • Riding Bean (precursor to Gunsmith Cats, with the same characters in a slightly different continuity)
      • Demon City Shinjuku (I have always loved this one)
      • Macross Plus (THE FEELS plus THE MUSIC plus THE ROBOTS)
      • Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (When Seagulls Cry) - By the same company that did Higurashi, and ostensibly in the same universe, focuses on a rich family and their family meeting, and the fact that there may -- or may not be -- a Witch causing murders.
      • Devil Hunter Yohko - if you can get past the nudity/lemon portion, it's an amusing WoD-feel magical girl
      • Big-O - Just watch it. It's like Batman meets Giant Robots in a city with no memories
