Just a quick typo point on the Info page - It's Massachusetts. No e after the double t.
Thanks! ZG fixed it.

I feel like you're going to get a huge amount of STF refugees. This is like everything we wanted out of that game, but cooler!
Aw! We hope people will like it. I can really use a hand with Miskatonic - I'm developing/running all the Lovecraft High stuff, and we'd like the college to be an equal focus if we can get someone(s) interested in helping there.

Horror Stories - Rotating Horror Anthology
Opening soon, connection details to follow!
Horror Stories is a game of dark survival horror where the plots get heavy and the body count can get high. Between the revolving themes with finite endings - games last anywhere from three to six months before the story is finished and a new one begins - and the brutal lethality - most characters will have a little to no combat ability, making every dangerous situation a potential killer - this is not a game for people who get attached to characters and play them for years on end. That's not to say that character depth and character development isn't important here, quite the contrary, but the concept of the game is somewhat unique in MUSHdom - every story has a beginning, middle, and end. There's a decent chance that your character won't see the last. This is a game for people who are tired of playing it safe.
This is true horror and darkness in the vein of the best thriller and slasher movies.
As should be obvious by now, this game is for adult and mature roleplayers only, and those who are easily offended or can barely manage to string a coherent sentence together should look elsewhere. Those who are afraid to lose, or take three weeks to come up with a character should also look elsewhere. But if you're looking to play on a game that's thick with atmosphere and not afraid to put your character in danger and take some risks, we think you'll like what you find.
Our first Season will be Science Fiction, focusing on survival horror in space.
PENUMBRA CORP
Powering the future!Welcome to Tenochtitlan Station, often called The Noc by its inhabitants. Following the disaster on Seegson's Sevastopol Station in 2137, rival company Penumbra Corp began construction of Tenochtitlan Station to resume mining of KG-348 and provide a new freeport in the Zeta Reticuli sector. In 2145, it was opened to the public and began full operations.
The Noc maintains a full service refinery for gas mining activities in the lowest level of its ziggurat structure, manned by both human employees and Seegson Working Joes. Mid-levels house Habitation, Flight Services, and the Promenade - the largest commercial district ever built off-world, featuring La Tranquilidad luxury resort. Also included are the St. Guadelupe Medical Center, and, of course, the Colonial Marshal Bureau. The upper levels of the ziggurat contain the SysTec, R & D, and Corporate facilities, with a section leased to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
Whether you work hard, play hard, or are just passing through, The Noc has something special for you!
--
This story takes place in the ALIEN universe, set after the events of the first Alien film and the Alien: Isolation game, and before the events of the second film, Aliens. Don't have any idea what that means? Not to worry!
In simple terms, it's a post-FTL (Faster Than Light) travel universe, where man has begun to explore and settle systems lightyears away. MegaCorps are the true power and the Colonial Marshals are the police force and peace keepers of the times. Colonial Marines handle the heavy lifting and serious threats.
Colonies are being built in many systems, mostly by Weyland-Yutani, known for its atmospheric processors, sophisticated synthetic-person technology, and military technology. Seegson produces more rudimentary androids called Working Joes, semi-autonomous robots that lack the sentience of W-Y synthetics, though it is still a leader in communications and computer mainframes.
Penumbra is the primary fuel producer, heavily invested in mining, refining, and fusion technologies. They are also a force in manufacturing civilian goods such as clothing and luxury items, with the Tenochtitlan Station Promenade essentially being the biggest mall in space. Their creation of La Tranquilidad marks their bold first step into creating a new space tourism industry, offering luxury resort and spa accomodations.
The game will take place on Tenochtitlan Station, primarily in the mid-levels of the ziggurat-shaped station. Players can be humans of any ethnicity, living on or visiting The Noc for any number of reasons. Working Joes are not sentient and cannot be PCs, and Synthetics are NPC-only.
In closing, think of a mashup between Alien and Dawn of the Dead, being hunted by a Xenomorph(s?) in the largest space mall ever made. Who can resist that?

RE: Oh the Horror
@ominous I'd argue that a cunning demon would rather stay and not have to claw their way back again. Why work harder than you have to just to look fearless? Why give a shit what it looks like when you can still win?
-
RE: Fear and Loathing
They're restricted PCs, yes. For some it helps to think of them as NPCs, but yeah, obviously they're not. It's a PC that gets to start with higher stats to fill a needed role in the sphere/game, can't gain XP until caught-up to, and is restricted in how they handle certain situations. Anyone can app for one, you don't have to be Staff's buddy to get one, and it's really very on-the-level.
Yes, we're aware that it looks like it could be easily abused, but as players from the game have said, it really hasn't been. There really haven't been any problems of Guest Stars dominating RP or slapping Stars around. If it happens, we'll act.
I am amused that one person says it's overpowered, why play a regular character, then the restrictions get pointed out, and someone else says with all the restrictions why bother?
-
RE: Short-Term MU*s
@faraday Hmm. What about a hybrid? I give a rough outline of a concept, but leave gender, first name, personality, etc up to the player? Give them a minimal background, a position, and a few allies/adversaries and goals?
-
RE: Fear and Loathing
@magee101 That's not power, in my opinion. Are they hard to kill? Sure. Near impossible, even. Call me when a Purified gets 20+ dice to drop a house on someone with Industrial Marionette, crushing them to death instantly. SEs get so many extra dice and rote rolls it's insane.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
Wow! So we got a BUNCH of people right out of the gate, and rather than make everyone wait and keep open voting, I'm going to call it since one has started to run away with it.
Isle of Dread is the first story for Horror MUX.
Isle of Dread. A month long music festival on an isolated, exclusive island filled with wealthy millennials, poor local employees, and various performers takes a dark turn when all communication is cut and no one is coming for them for 30 days. Survival/slasher on a tropical island.
The voting may be over, but there's still lots of Archetypes to be claimed! Come join us and I'll try to get roles assigned by Sunday so we can start by - fittingly - Friday the 13th!

Across Time and Space MUX - Dr. Who
Across Time and Space MUX - 138.197.94.50 5050 -- http://timeandspace.wikidot.com/start
Across Time and Space is a statless, story-driven MUX set in the universe of the Doctor Who TV series and related media. Players can pretty much play anything - Time Lord, human, alien, cyborg or robot. Things like the supernatural are simply aliens and magic is just science and technology, so ghosts, vampires and werewolves have all made appearances in the series over the years and may on this game. While there are a few restrictions on Time Lord and alien PCs, you'll find that you can make almost anything you like.
With time travel at the heart of things and a whole universe to explore, this game can be pretty much any genre imaginable. Medieval, cyberpunk, gothic horror, space opera, action/adventure, western, and a whole lot more can easily be used in your stories, and when you tire of one, just hop to another. The game can be anything you want it to be.
With a very quick and easy character creation process you can be out and RPing in a matter of minutes, even if you've never seen a single episode. You'll not a find an easier game to jump into with as many possibilities for stories, so why not take a chance? All of time and space awaits you!

-- Everything below is the original post, preserved for reference.
Guaging interest in a Whoniverse game. Probably statless, or if I use Adventures in Time and Space, it won't have XP. Timelords live for thousands of years, so if a human goes from a 3 to a 4 in a thing, even in a RL year, Timelords would be all 10s. So no. No XP.
Also I really just want to do a game where telling stories and having fun is more important than XP, power levels, and things like that.
Basic idea is very early Time War - the universe is mostly stable, The Doctor's gone off to avoid the whole coming mess. Either app in as a troupe - a Timelord or two and some companions - or join/build one from existing PCs looking for same.
No PvP, everybody does their own thing and teams up against big plot baddies. Troupes can pass the Timelord to a new player in the troupe if they die/regenerate, or not, as they like. Playing a Timelord means being a storyteller - no dice needed if you can't run dice scenes - as a requirement, so it's not a game full of Timelords and no plots.
Is there even interest in a Whoniverse game?

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
@seraphim73 Not sure? I made 54. That's a lot. I'm sure there will be turnover, too.
@sincerely There will be logs, yeah. May work something out for watching, too.

RE: Across Time and Space MUX - Dr. Who
We had our first bit of RP today and it was awesome. We have 1 Time Lord PC so far and a few companions, their Crew is a Euro/daytime Crew so even with early hours and only a few players they're getting RP. That's how I want to grow the game, one TARDIS Crew at a time.
If you haven't yet, come give us a look!
ETA: Here's the log.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
We currently have 8 archetypes open for players to claim. All but two have been IC in their current role, so they come as-is like a roster character, though a new player can tweak and customize a bit. Most of these RPed once or twice before we opened, or in the opening day or two, but haven't been back since. If you were playing one of these and got eaten by RL, let The Director know. Archetypes that are open are listed here:
http://horrormu.com/index.php/Archetypes
We are almost two weeks (RL) into our first story. You can see what's gone on so far by checking out our current story page:
http://horrormu.com/index.php/Current_Story
This really is a very different game than most are used to, and I welcome our players to come in and comment on their experiences.

RE: Stranger Than Fiction MUX
@quinn Yeah. He was the leader in +votes or whatever for a good while because he RPed a lot, just with a couple people at a time. And yes, as his SO ran the plots, he was generally the focus of everything. And I'm not surprised that you got talked to about pointing that out. His SO was very protective of him and his various quirks.
I was Sydney. Who were you?
-
RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
@tnp Understandable. This game is smaller than many, but scenes are bigger, yeah.
-
RE: Stranger Than Fiction MUX
@quinn Probably because Griff was in Group A with his friends, and any more players in it would be too much for him, so they capped it. Which SHOULD have meant you open a Group B. But then someone has to run Group B scenes, and when you have all of one Staffer running plots and won't let players run things, that never happens.
At the end of the day it was a sandbox for him, with things run by his SO, and being open to the public meant he had a pool of people to audition for his limited friend slots.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
The xenomorph doesn't exist at the start of the Story, and will not appear for at least 3 RL weeks.
-
RE: DC : Gods and Monsters MUX
@mr-johnson Because pretty much everything in pop culture until the last decade or so was largely created by straight white men, and still mostly is. And the argument of "just make a new female/black/gay/trans character" doesn't help because new characters rarely break through in established genres/universes.
I don't get why changing gender or race or sexuality upsets white males so much (not meaning you). They have all the toys. Learn to share, maybe?
-
RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
@faraday Agreed. There's a number of things I'm updating between stories.
Update: Here's the new policy.
Please understand that because of the short-term nature of the stories, this game moves quicker than most and is not a good fit for players who can only RP once a week or so. The following are our rules on activity, idling, and absence:
-
If you inform The Director that you cannot be on for however long, your Archetype WILL be held for you. RL happens, we got your back. Everything below relates to NOT informing her of your absence.
-
An Archetype that is taken but does not go IC within one (1) RL week of opening day (just logging on doesn't matter) will be recycled.
-
An Archetype that goes more than 14 days without RPing (just logging on doesn't matter) will be recycled.
Again, tell us if you're unable to play. We'll understand and hold your spot.

RE: DC : Gods and Monsters MUX
@auspice If only they actually followed that in their hiring practices. DC just recently yet again announced a slate of books by pretty much entirely straight white bros.
Not meaning to derail, but I work in comics professionally and that letter makes me giggle. DC are always making promises they never keep. Marvel too, though. Ah well.

@deadculture Xeno EVAs without a suit. Comes in another way.
