      @admiral
      Not really sure why skeletons can't be scary - a different kind of undead/zombie. As for the nuke, if governments found out the dead were rising on an isolated island I think it's plausible they'd nuke the shit out of it. That said, I get that it's not for everyone. Not your thing, totally cool with that.

      I do kind of resent the 'cool kids club' comment. I knew none of these people very much before the game started, assigned roles entirely at random as people showed up, and the first story barely went a month. The 'cool kids' died in the middle. That's maybe 2-3 weeks for a few people to become 'the cool kids'.

      And yes, I mixed stuff up with shuffling groups to prevent 'popular cliques' from hopefully being a thing.

      This is one of THE best roles in the Alien story. Why it's unplayed is beyond me. Ever wanted to play the slimy Company toady that everyone loathes and still gets away with everything? Here's your chance!

      Role in Alien Mutation
      You're a genius when it comes to timing and scheming - get away with everything you possibly can, and disappear when the bill comes due. You've climbed the ladder at The Company by stealing ideas, blame-shifting, credit-taking and outright double-crossing. You'll be an excellent executive one day. Which is why being made Project Director here worries you - Project 937 is time bomb that's already blown up twice. You are NOT going to get caught holding the bag on this. You've worked far too hard screwing other people over to go down for The Company's obsession with some monster. When the shit hits the fan - and you're afraid it will, if Grey and Eisenreicht are to be believed - hang it on Thorson. Or Sterling. Or hell, both of them. You never asked for this assignment!

      We have two roles in particular I'd REALLY like to get played. They are:

      http://horrormu.com/index.php/Scholar1/Eisenreicht
      http://horrormu.com/index.php/Explorer2/Chevalier

      Their roles have been written, but no gender/PB/first name assigned, so you can do anything with them there. Please give them a look!

      Our newest ad! Alien: Mutation starts Thursday, Aug 9.

      HorrorMU.com: 1880
      http://horrormu.com/index.php/Main_Page

      Horror MUX is a game of mortal horror set in a variety of rotating settings and themes, using different versions of the same characters, called Archetypes, and with an underlying connection running throughout.

      We employ a modified version of the Slasher Flick system which emphasizes personal horror and cinematic narrative over stats and combat, and this very simple game system is explained here on the wiki. There is no need to purchase any books.

      This game is intended for mature players.

      We are about to begin our second story - Alien: Mutation. This story takes place in the ALIEN universe, in the year 2149, set after the events of the first Alien film and the Alien: Isolation game, and before the events of the second film, Aliens. Don't have any idea what that means? Not to worry!

      In simple terms, it's a post-FTL (Faster Than Light) travel universe, where man has begun to explore and settle systems light-years away. MegaCorps are the true power and the Colonial Marshals are the police force and peace keepers of the times.

      Colonies are being built in many systems, mostly by Weyland-Yutani, known for its atmospheric processors, sophisticated synthetic-person technology, and military technology. Seegson produces more rudimentary androids called Working Joes, semi-autonomous robots that lack the sentience of W-Y synthetics, though it is still a leader in communications and computer mainframes.

      Penumbra is the primary fuel producer, heavily invested in mining, refining, and fusion technologies. They are also a force in manufacturing civilian goods such as clothing and luxury items, with the Tenochtitlan Station Promenade essentially being the biggest mall in space. Their creation of the Eclipse Resort and Casino marks their bold first step into creating a new space tourism industry, offering luxury resort and spa accommodations. The game will start in several locations, but threads will merge and the majority will take place on Tenochtitlan Station, primarily in the mid-levels of the station.

      In closing, think of a mashup between Alien and Dawn of the Dead, being hunted by a Xenomorph(s?) in the largest space mall ever made. Who can resist that?

      We just completed our first story, Isle of Dread. It was a good learning experience, and we're building off of it going forward. Our next story is set in the ALIEN universe, and starts August 9th. This is a perfect time to join in and give it a try!

      @faraday Agreed. There's a number of things I'm updating between stories.

      Update: Here's the new policy.

      Please understand that because of the short-term nature of the stories, this game moves quicker than most and is not a good fit for players who can only RP once a week or so. The following are our rules on activity, idling, and absence:

      • If you inform The Director that you cannot be on for however long, your Archetype WILL be held for you. RL happens, we got your back. Everything below relates to NOT informing her of your absence.

      • An Archetype that is taken but does not go IC within one (1) RL week of opening day (just logging on doesn't matter) will be recycled.

      • An Archetype that goes more than 14 days without RPing (just logging on doesn't matter) will be recycled.

      Again, tell us if you're unable to play. We'll understand and hold your spot.

      Given the short-term nature of each story, even without the crazy pace of this first one, I'm not seeing this game being a good fit for once-a-week players. Especially since those once-a-week scenes can, as mentioned, get big.

      The xenomorph doesn't exist at the start of the Story, and will not appear for at least 3 RL weeks.

      @iluvgrumpycat and @WildBaboons

      This story was rushed, and as a result stuff blew past people. I fully admit that. It was out of a concern over keeping people from getting bored and leaving early right out of the gate. So I overshot and lost some people. I still feel having too much happen and losing a few people is a better option than going too slow and everyone getting bored. I needed the first story to move quickly as a proof-of-concept.

      That said, future stories will build more. I'm re-balancing things and making adjustments as noted up-thread. It's a work in progress and I'm learning as I go. I hope you'll give it a second chance!

      @bored I only had everyone kill one SR because I wanted the fact that nearly half the population died that first bad night. I wanted everyone to be personally hit by that loss. That's all it was.
