RE: Advert-is-ments broken on Firefox/Mac
The adverts board (and even looking at some adverts messages, like this one), is quite broken on Chrome for me.
Reloading seeeeeems to fix it, sometimes, but it is a recurring problem.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
I like to think I'm fairly safety-conscious and a courteous driver, so I try to keep it under 90 mph.
Usually.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Right.
I've been burned by energetic early-morning workers who thought me coming in at say, 2pm and leaving at say, 4pm, was unreasonable/unfair/whatever.
If I've been working all night fixing something so that you can work in the morning you can go to hell.
No, this isn't directed specifically at @iceshinagami; this is the peeves thread so: I'm peeving.

Hey, you get to work at 6, go to bed by 11pm you have a very nice day!
Biologically, some of us are not set up that way. Coming in later is not (generally) a sign of laziness. Sadly, there is a common misconception there that earlier means more-dedicated, somehow.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
fuckers who come in before the crack of noon, like savages.
Fixed that for you.

Yeah, @JinShei, but you're using Fate Core, a fairly simple system that has some internal checks that prevents people from, e.g., putting everything at 5/Excellent. To be good at something, you have to give up something.
So hopefully we'll start to see more people using Fate instead?

More useful that emoji images would be spoiler-folding.

Man, it appears I didn't even have to do any work. To get a code block, use three backticks (```) in the line before and after the code.
Ooo that helps. I'd been using the space method. Being able to specify the language is excellent.
It will try to automatically determine language (not available for MU of course), but to specify, use: ```<language name>.
What system is it using for parsing? Might be fairly easy to add a recognizer and syntax highlighter for mushcode.
Or even a prettyprinter that puts it in expanded form.

What about Dwarf Fortress: The MUSH?
At least then it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to become sickened by miasma, slip on your own vomit, lose your will to keep going on, then go into a prolonged depression followed by homicidal rage.
Urist Bowelquencher is a legendary craftsdwarf, having carved the artifact wall engraving, "Tree-fire the smoke of burning burningness." The engraving is made of olivine and inlaid with bands of cat leather. The engraving menaces with spikes of carp teeth. In the engraving is a picture of a tree. It is burning. Near the tree is the dwarf Urist Bowelquencher, engraving. Urist Bowelquencher is engraving the artifact wall engraving, "Tree-fire the smoke of burning burningness." The wall engraving is covered with dwarf blood, dwarf vomit, goblin blood, goblin vomit, goblin entrails, goblin hair, goblin semen, and bears the infernal brimstone reek of the Fire Demon Borghost Pinchweener, who escaped in the year 475.

If you don't log, you get screwed.
Player logs are ultimately meaningless and easily forged. There are various ways to do server-side logging to line checksums or the like, but people either think it's some spy game or too complicated.
But yes-- it's essential to keep your own logs independent of what the server has.

The thought that players won't approach staff because they don't want to be outed undermines it. People should feel safe from retribution for their concerns.
While I'm sympathetic to people that are in an awkward situation, don't want to ruffle feathers, and/or need to remain pseudonymous for whatever reason, this is fundamentally incompatible with any sort of justice.
The prosecution must cite sources. If they cannot, there is no case. Adherence to this principle is necessary in order to guarantee those who are witnessing and citing concerns from future retribution as much as those currently acting as defense.
A complaint and its rebuttal should be either a matter of public record, or at a minimum visible to all involved parties. If you cannot trust the people in a mush to handle at least that much safely-- why are you playing there?

There is no reason not to employ a system similar to what we have in the United States. All parties to the complaint are known, as are their allegations and claims. All decisions are public, as are the findings, the reasons for them, and the consequential rulings.
YES. This is the best way. Not all that endless flailing about privacy and whatnot that leaves things shrouded in mystery.

RE: Wiki to MU* interface
Lemme know how it works out for you, but-- doing new things for new games, I'd recommend starting to consider other options. MediaWiki is a gargantuan and moderately filthy PHP app. Less awful than forums, but it is what it is.
Just as this forum software seems to be a better alternative to phpBB/SMF, there might well be (or should be) some shiny node.js based wiki system. Doing it with that would allow for future integration with node.js based MUservers, if such a thing ever comes to pass.

Just for the lols, could you clarify who 'they' were or what 'shitting porcupines' entailed in this case please?
Just general raving about how wora was a hive of scum and villainy (which is moderately true) and that various bad things (doxing) happened to various people at various times. The idea that someone might set up another mush-related forum which might or might not have a different emphasis and character was completely alien and incomprehensible to them.
No, I won't say who. I can't tell anyway; I swear they shuffle city names every month or so, but there are plenty of good people left and mocking an entire game for a handful of people freaking out over a source of past trauma seems... well, wora-ish.
We can do better than that; focus on the constructive.
