RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
@thenomain War plots aren't bad and they don't represent the end of the game. Particularly in Lords and Ladies games, where things stagnate if there isn't a plot to feed into the positive and RP-stirring drama.

RE: RL Anger
@scar I'm pretty sure there's a special place somewhere for that kind of coward. At least take responsibility for hurting an animal, for fuck's sake. Either way, if you remember at least a few numbers of his license plate and the model and color of his car, might be worth letting the police know.

RE: Hobby-related Resolutions/Goals for the coming year... ?
Balance playtime evenly across my games, try to be a good leadership figure in the sphere without losing my mind or mucking into too much drama.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
@packrat See, I think it's staff's job to be quest-givers. Not players'. Players can spread RP, sure, but staff is where the first impetus should begin in regards to plots/quests.
Now, if we're talking politics, and affiliations, I would agree, which is why I like your system. I want to be Juan the Dervish, vassal to Lord whoever -- for the highest bidder -- rather than having to do it all. It's good to take characters that champion the niche you want to play.
It's also good that Lord Mischievous Decados isn't the best at technology in the world despite having a duchy spanning 3000 acres of genetically engineered weed or something.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
@surreality Non-consent can always come with some form of limited negotiation. In fact, any player versus player policy should have a condition of discussing the terms of your action with the opposing character. I've seen it work in a couple of instances, for an example: player A negotiates a torpor with player B. Player B understands the terms, gets to contest the rolls and has an estimation of how long their character will be put out of commission. Everything takes place as negotiated and the action is over, no tears.

Thanks, everyone. You're all awesome.
So here's the deal: when I was a little Cirno, after watching all the General Hospital series and so on, I wanted to be a doctor.
I may go into medicine. But when I grew older, I grew enamored with politics, and would now also like to be a politician.
I could do like Ben Carson and do both.
I have also researched getting a degree in Mathematics because you can do a lot with it.
I'd really like a job in which I have power over others. I seek a job with a lot of clout, but I can give up on that dream if there's nothing like that, but do any of you have any suggestions? And no, I don't want to be a Police Officer or a Drill Sergeant. I've got a problem with the bones in my feet that requires surgery, so I can't join the Army, much as I would like to.
Everyone at the top starts from the bottom. If you want to rise really fast, go be a quant. Good pay.

RE: Pitches for plots and characters
@arkandel said in Pitches for plots and characters:
I thought it'd be fun to have a thread about concepts of both characters and plots that others could use.
SUICIDE SQUAD: A mysterious coterie of vampires rolls up into town, unannounced, unrecognized. Behind, and after their wake, a string of brutal and seemingly suicidal incidents. Will the protagonists investigate the underpinnings of this intentional breach of the Masquerade in the Praxis?
Conspiracy: Task Force: Valkyrie receives a strange order: to assassinate a normal, regular mother-of-two who works at a drugstore. Who wants her dead? Why?

RE: RL Anger
I don't see how one should care about either GamerGate or the opposition or what either side says. I used to not feel (because there's no way to think about this objectively) the same about two years ago, but I'm glad I now have matured to the point where I think arguments about the sanctity of video games (or how they need to be changed) over the internet is just ... well, pathetic.
Don't like what the producers are doing with a game? Don't buy it, make your opinion known and that's it.
You're angry about the mistreatment of [insert grievance du jour here]? Talk about it, make your opinion known, don't buy the company's game if it offends your view, that's it.
And to think that all that shit started because some douchebag has a shit taste in women and can't break up with someone when they don't trust them anymore. Go figure.

RE: Pitches for plots and characters
@surreality What I do is write plots based on the songs I'm listening at the time. It's great inspiration. Like if I want to write something that's more oriented towards investigation I'm going to listen to sad music.
I don't know why, it just works.
If it's action, it depends. Hard rock/mainstream rock for modern/WoD, power metal/folk for fantasy/space fantasy.

@packrat Take your time. Losing a loved one is never easy. Especially if it's someone you've been very close to.

RE: RL Anger
@Kanye-Qwest The misguided way they go about their cause, and how easy they become pawns to third party interests. I do not trust nor believe the legitimacy of any group who is funded by some of the more wealthy individuals. How they shut down conversation. See:
There's such a thing as fighting discrimination, and many ways one can do so from the ground up, individually or as a group. Getting George Soros' money is not one of them, not to mention hypocritical.

RE: MSB, SJW, and other acronyms
@saosmash I've been called a cheeky cunt by angry Brits during a Planetside 2 army operation. Does that count?

RE: RL Anger
I think you defeat that sort of lapse in rationale with good arguments, not mockery.
Mockery only serves to infuriate and dig one's personal view further into a trench.
And I don't think @Derp was being willfully cruel; I think he missed the part where context matters to the discussion at hand, that this individual had no prior contact with @mietze, and that he out of the blue decided to show up at her workplace. I would have felt unsafe, whether or not I had been the victim of assault or not.

RE: MSB, SJW, and other acronyms
@ganymede There are times your lawyer mode is never switched off and it can grind my lawyer gears a little bit, and then there are times I find your posts insightful and a bit funny.
Also since I think I need to address that edit: SJW, like 'right-wing nutter' and 'antivaxxer' and 'gun nut' are all labels. Labels, unfortunately, are words we often weaponize so we're able to hurt our ideatic debate opponents, especially when things get heated. Ultimately, nothing good results from using them, since they're meant exclusively to disrupt a speaker's chain of thought so we can engage our own.

RE: RL Anger
@Apos I think you and I will diverge on what constitutes harm in regards to this issue. I will say this: it didn't seem to work in this instance. And the moment mocking starts, one could just assume a rhetorical stance in which their initial premise becomes more and more extreme, to provide a counterpoint to your attempt to jar them out of their viewpoint. Which is a dick move in the realm of argumentation, but then, so is being mocked. I find being objective and framing the argument you want to drive forwards within the context it is meant, without attacking the individual, to be more effective.
