I'm probably biased since I've played with Custodius across multiple games before getting fed up with his total bat shit shenanigans... but which one was worse:

      Custodius/Renaud or Amber?

...All y'all can say Lyov if y'all want.

I will say Amber was detected in an nWoD I helped run and she was insufferable there too. The epitome of a Mary Sue.

      Renaud.

I don't know that I've seen any proposals to remake SC--just to create a FS place.

To me, while certainly SC was FS, FS is not SC. And yes, Ap, the scale is different, but the system could adjust/account.

I felt that SC tried to do too many things at once on too big of a scale, for the size/availability of the staff they had. And yes, there were some pretty glaringly huge discrepancies in expectations.

I don't feel that sours me on a political pvp FS place though. I am not a big fan of mush do-overs because you have people then coming in with extremely mismatched expectations. So I'd never advocate for a SC reboot (even though that makes me sad, I really loved the setting/world building).

I don't know about advocating, but I think people with a better sense of fair play could work the Yathrib setting better than what was done before, and maybe this time people could choose to chargen their own characters provided they had enough of a justification to do so. For instance, if you want to make one of those groovy Yoga-style psis who was a former Dervish, you could give them Soma and the other relevant Dervish powers.

@Alzie Because you want to be either a Dervish or one of those neat rogue-psis.

@mietze: as for PvP politics -- you made a comparison of RfK to FS. The problem with this is: scale. The scale is vastly different. If you're a landholder in FS, you aren't just in possession of a neighborhood or a street. You have a whole stretch of land which may encompass several towns and you draw strength from those. Further, the political system in SC was kind-of kooky. It was mismanaged because NPCs had more weight than PCs, as they did for the remainder of the game. NPCs mattered more than PC actions, so not amount of PCs pooling resources together in order to accomplish a common objective would actually gain any traction. What are twelve votes against sixty, seventy? What was needed, truly needed, were rules that weren't made on the fly, rules that had some basis on a ruleset in a book somewhere. That would make it work. Oh, and also, @toad Renaud. Would've helped.
      A lot.

@Apollonius That guy takes the prize for the Well Done, Traitorous Douchebag Award. And he took full advantage of OOC timing, with Amber's blessing if I had to guess.

      @Packrat said:

Well I will go on record as having quit staff, then the game, over a lot of this stuff. Lextius in particular was terrible for just seemingly wanting to shaft players, win a narrow victory? Now time to describe the aftermath in a way that makes it clear you really lost! A player character could respond to some crisis in an entirely optimal way taking advantage of pre planning and resources put in place to cover the eventuality and he would still try to work out how they were going to lose.

Actually that happened on Vargo, Custodius (not the most popular example I know) responded to hints that there might be a famine by immediately buying up all of the available grain using his character's entire savings, then storing it in his already existing fortress granaries so that he could feed his vassals. He also allocated a substantial proportion of his troops to guarding shipments, struck deals with guild PCs to buy/transport the stuff, etc. I mean it was frankly the best set of responses possible to the situation and I still had to argue Lextius out of trying to 'Get' him.

I can't really complain about being mistreated by staff (once I learned how to write a background the way they like I got, what I think was hands down one of the best characters in the game excepting Antonio) even if I did majorly get shafted by Lextius at some critical juncture. Silver linings, of course. Momoko/alzie's complaint is entirely valid because Lextius liked to fucking misdirect under pretense of giving 'unique perspective' of the characters to the fight.

Amber was perhaps the most unpleasant person to talk to, aside of Custodius, I'd ever met in my time in the hobby.

However, part of the negative aspects to that game was watching some of my online friends start to drift apart as a result of the politics that got mixed with OOC manipulation and too much interaction, to be honest. That was a bummer.

@Apollonius It's a game. Yes, emotions and frustrations run high, but let's not use the words 'suffering' (how much suffering is it to stand in front of a screen?) and psychopath (no doubt Paulus has a problem in that he's a master of doublespeak, but that doesn't really make a psychopath, per se). Now, having put that aside, Lextius was the kind of dude who did want to screw you over in scenes, and I think he was extremely ... 'moderate' in how he statted you. With some exceptions.

As for Chiaka, she was histrionic and loved to be the victim; I think in that particular scene that @silentsophia mentioned she was offering herself UP to the Kurgan captors and was frustrated Sofia was nixing her attempts. Amber, on the other hand, was the kind of person I wouldn't trust with any sort of IC leadership. Everything was personal, everything had to be a major fucking issue if it didn't go her way. And because of that, she was extremely difficult to work with, in addition to having a LOT of neat advantages over pretty much everyone else (an air force, et cetera).

Oh and by the way, don't make the XP gain as sluggishly retarded. It made all the good sheets to be especially good and frontloaded.

@bored Do not forget @Packrat was incidentally the Joan d'Arc of the setting too, after he gave either Rosario or some other equally powerful char up.

But I did have some fairly good times in that game, especially with @mietze, Sofia et al. I just think Paulus/Principle should have striven for a cleaner execution of everything, pretty much. I understand why the contradiction but it was a very subjective fog of war. Amber and Renaud were VERY, VERY intimately attached to the setting as characters and had an unfair advantage over the other counts.

      To an almost cartoonish amount.

Time will tell what kind of game you'll run Packrat.

@TNP There's the Firan Survival Thread, which demonstrates why you should ban the IP associated with the account as soon as it logs in, but you know. People want to pretend to be 'fair' and give the person a 'clean slate'.

I don't believe in faux fairness nor clean slates. This individual isn't deserving of any. A recurring pattern of adverse behavior that does not evolve with time is to be outright stopped.

@Coin I made a whole multi paragraph post about it but then decided to delete it. I think some of the complaints Alzie made touch superficially on the points I've made but I'll try addressing them directly to the people involved instead of here first. Y'know, just to be courteous.

    • RE: New GoT MUSH?

What I would like to see is a MUSH based on the same world as Guy Gavriel Kay's Lions of Al-Rasan, A Song for Arbonne, etc. It's close enough to some themes in our world's medieval era to make it easy to play, extremely low-magic and very engaging, if you ever read either of those books.
