@lordbelh said in Space Lords and Ladies:

@deadculture Spreadsheets are useful in determining balance and math before you go into coding it, while its in an adjustment and streamlining process. I don't see the problem. I would see the problem if what was shown on those spreadsheets were what I had to deal with in an actual game.

      That is what was implied.

      @Misadventure:

I would suggest abstracting the troop numbers without worrying about their statistics, and just providing bonuses for their use situationally. I would also use a RPG system that has mass combat and naval combat already detailed so you can rid yourself of a great deal of work.

And the same RPG systems that have the two things I outlined above LIKELY have estate management, investment and other systems. I don't see a MU working as a strategy game.

All of this just makes it crystal clear to me that if someone wants to talk about their prejudices suffered, I am not the best person to be listening. I can help a friend with problems, but I won't help a friend by feeding into their grievances or victim complex. If you're not a billionaire, if you've ever lived in a violent city where going out is a matter of statistics of whether something bad will happen to you, then you've been oppressed, too, regardless of your sex/orientation/race/social conditions.

Then again, I don't think I would want to be friends with a Black Lives Matter supporter, either. I tend to be a bit picky about my company.

@Seraphim73 Then it should be less complicated; spreadsheets aren't going to help making it any more accessible to play the game. It's simply that the first thing he mentioned was about making the game simple, not complicated; he's doing the exact opposite, without even figuring out a system for his game.

@Packrat No dude. No spreadsheets. Read what @bored said about such fuckery.

@Packrat Are you going to add Psychism or Cybernetics in any way?

And: what system are you going to use for that? It all seems mighty complicated, and I know only of a few systems that let you build ships or whatever.

If you want to see a successful run of a semi MMO that is RP-based, try City of Arabel in the NwN Open Worlds.

I think that's the point, that Space Nobility has superior ships and can field more troops than anything conventionals could.

@Packrat: I suggest making starfighter or powered armor combat a thing.

@Packrat So what kind of units are you planning for a typical space navy?

@Arkandel Someone's playstyle should be all that matters. And skill. UO is mostly based on your skill, since it takes a lot of understanding the system, putting the right macroes and the timing behind your spells/strikes to actually kill an opponent. Everyone does better in groups, but duelling is where it's at.

I miss the game but it was too time consuming, and as with all time consuming things, I had to drop that.

I find the whole WoW-sexism thing to be funny. I only played Ultima Online as MMOs and males and females got treated about the same. All it mattered if you were in a PK outfit was how fast you could drop that sucker blue fighting a dragon in Destard.

And in a PvM outfit, there was some playful flirtation going but I never joined that. Too busy killing champions with my archer/provocateur bard.

Suffice to say, @Packrat, if you go through with this idea, or go FS, just heed where your predecessors went wrong: you need to make people cap at the baron level; allows for more 'big time' players and even chances for conflict, rather than polarize everything around 4 PCs.

@Groth Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, man. If someone is a face to any effort, you work on destroying and discrediting them. Same tactics being used both sides of the pathetic aisle. (On a belated post).

Well, thankfully this is the 'RL Anger' thread, so nobody is actually having a discussion, just voicing their opinions and sometimes slinging an occasional insult or two. I haven't checked back on the thread to see if @Sunny's as directed to Tyche are well deserved or not.

On the other hand, here's something that made me both angry and disgusted today: apparently there are parents who are giving their autistic kids mystery bleach enemas to heal them from 'parasites' that are causing autism. What it's doing is systematically destroying their intestinal lining, but you know.

Can someone arrest someone who does that and posts that on facebook already?

I don't see how one should care about either GamerGate or the opposition or what either side says. I used to not feel (because there's no way to think about this objectively) the same about two years ago, but I'm glad I now have matured to the point where I think arguments about the sanctity of video games (or how they need to be changed) over the internet is just ... well, pathetic.

Don't like what the producers are doing with a game? Don't buy it, make your opinion known and that's it.

You're angry about the mistreatment of [insert grievance du jour here]? Talk about it, make your opinion known, don't buy the company's game if it offends your view, that's it.

And to think that all that shit started because some douchebag has a shit taste in women and can't break up with someone when they don't trust them anymore. Go figure.

@silentsophia It was awfully convenient how that chick showed up to pretend she wanted to cooperate with family and that she was family-first. Thankfully, Sans and Sofia knew how to keep their mouths shut.

@Deviante Yeah, sometimes I drink to forget about that one.

SC's problem was the utter lack of trust left to be had on staff after the second wave of departures.
